      – Could we try to go one week without an MMA fighter getting arrested? The latest cage-fighting jailbird is Kimo Leopoldo, a UFC old-schooler who got caught impersonating a Long Beach police officer while carrying around “a small amount” of methamphetamine.

      – MMA hottie/former American Gladiator Gina Carano took some sexy new photos for Maxim.

      – At last Friday’s Wargods event, UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock armbarred some fat dude, while Tank Abbott scored a brilliant KO via illegal rabbit punches.

      – BJ Penn has put his frustrations about his slippery loss to Georges St. Pierre into a charming little conspiracy-video. Meanwhile, legendary UFC ref John McCarthy says that the greasing thing has “always been an issue” in MMA.

      – The UFC’s new action figures will armbar the crap out of your little Ninja Turtles.

      Rich “Ace” Franklin hails from Cincinnati, Ohio where he was a math teacher before taking up MMA. He began his training in a shed with friends with the use of instructional videotapes. He would later join Jorge Gurgel – a black belt in BJJ – and trained under Neal Rowe for kickboxing. He has since earned a brown belt under Gurgel and continues to improve his wrestling and striking in Ohio.

      Franklin got his nickname from Jim Carry’s “Ace Ventura”, which Rich resembles strongly. He is good friends with Tim “the Maniac” Silvia, who was shown crying after Franklin was beaten badly in his first bought with Anderson Silva. He would get a rematch, but suffered a similar fate in the cage.

      He has fought at 205 and 185 in the UFC, appearing leaner and quicker at middleweight (185). He holds notable wins over Ken Shamrock, Evan Tanner, and a huge stunning knockout over Nate Quarry. He had run through most of the UFC’s 185lbs division until losing to Anderson Silva. Franklin had recently been on a two-fight win streak before Dan Henderson defeated him. He is set to face Wanderlei Silva at UFC 99.

      Mac DanzigHere’s a weekly rundown of MMA content from Ben Goldstein of CagePotato.com:

      – “Ultimate Fighter 6” winner Mac Danzig took his second-straight loss at UFC Fight Night 17 last Saturday. But at least he didn’t get his contract shredded like those three other guys who lost.

      – After the Georges St. Pierre greasing fiasco at UFC 94, the UFC has decreed that only official cut-men (and not random entourage members) will be allowed to apply Vaseline to fighters’ faces during matches.

      – Seth Petruzelli, the light-heavyweight who knocked out Kimbo Slice with an off-balance jab at EliteXC’s final show last October, will be returning to action next month at a hybrid boxing/MMA card that’s being organized by Roy Jones Jr.

      – Professional screw-up (and former “Ultimate Fighter” castmember) War Machine was charged with misdemeanor battery after a little misunderstanding at a gay nightclub.

      – Strikeforce’s first event following their purchase of Pro Elite will feature a superfight between the two greatest trash-talkers in MMA.

      – Top-ten welterweight Karo Parisyan could be facing a long suspension after testing positive for three different banned painkillers after his last fight.

      – Quebec is considering a change to its policy on combat sports that may jeopardize the UFC’s scheduled return to Montreal in April, which is slated to feature Chuck Liddell and Anderson Silva fighting in separate matches.

      – UFC 94 produced a record eight fights that went to decision, a one-sided thrashing in the main event, and a greasing scandal that could taint the accomplishments of welterweight king Georges St. Pierre. If you missed it, check out this video of St. Pierre/Penn fight, and this collection of photos from the event.

      – Strikeforce picked over the carcass of Pro Elite, and will be broadcasting live MMA events featuring former EliteXC fighters on Showtime beginning in April.

      – The WEC has added a 125-pound flyweight division to their roster. (Or as we like to call it, the “Kid Brother Division.”) Will a women’s division be next?

      – Former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski is leaving MMA for boxing.

      – What recession? Three of the UFC’s four best-selling pay-per-view events of all time have taken place in the last three months.

      – The moronic MySpace ramblings of former Ultimate Fighter castmember Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver have gotten him fired from yet another fight promotion.

      – UFC Fight Night 17, featuring Joe Lauzon vs. Jeremy Stephens and Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer, airs tomorrow night on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET.       Top 10 Pound for Pound MMA Fighters in the World 2/5

      After two huge shows from Affliction and the UFC, it’s time again for another top 10 ranking of the best pound-for-pound MMA fighters in the world. What will change, who will remain, and who has been all but eliminated from superstardom?

      First, let’s look at the mega fights that occurred.

      Georges St. Pierre took on BJ Penn, Fedor Emelianenko battled Andrei Arlovski, and undefeated Lyoto Machida went up against undefeated Silva. Opinions on the overall best still may differ but one thing is for sure, changes are still forthright in 2009.

      Below is our ranking of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, regardless of weight class.

      1. Anderson Silva- 185/205 (UFC)
      Most complete fighter in the game. Unstoppable striking and black belt jiu jitsu. Silva has dominated the 185-class like no one has ever before him.

      2. Georges St. Pierre – 170 (UFC/UCC)
      Best athlete in MMA, a total package of talent from wrestling, striking and solid submission skills. St. Pierre could move up to 185 if not for Silva.

      3. Fedor Emelianenko – Heavyweight (Affliction/Pride)
      Great ground and pound, heavy hands and sambo submissions. If he faced stronger competition and he showed more dominant control he’d move up higher.

      4. Rashad Evans – 205 (UFC)
      Great collegiate wrestler who has vastly improved striking with big knockout power. Has a solid camp and the only knock is his conditioning.

      5. Miguel Torres – 135 (WEC)
      Hardcore jiu jitsu fighter, black belt with devastating power in his striking. He owns the Bantamweight division.

      6. Thiago Alves – 170 (UFC)
      Big time knockout power and great Muay Thai skills. On a big winning streak and is the number one challenger at 170.

      7. BJ Penn – 155 (UFC)
      Great flexibility and world level jiu jitsu. Great hand speed and power, belongs at 155 where he owns the weight class.

      8. Quinton Jackson – 205 (UFC/Pride/WFA)
      Greatly improved hands and overall skill set from his PrideFC days. Still has big slams and ability to escape submissions.

      9. Dan Henderson – 185 (UFC/Pride)
      Great knockout power in his right hand, Olympic caliber wrestling skills and terrific ground control over opponents.

      10. Urijah Faber – 145 (WEC)
      Good solid submissions, loves to throw leather and is very athletic and quick. Has owned the 145 featherweight division until a recent loss.
