From ESPN.com: When veteran Montreal hockey writer Pat Hickey went out to his car after Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals Sunday night, he found that fans had covered his car with trash, slashed one of the tires and stolen his Quebec license plates. Curiously, they also ripped a bug guard off the front of the car, a 1999 Honda Accord with about 351,000 miles on it. “Obviously it was a bit disturbing,” Hickey told ESPN.com Tuesday morning, hours before the Flyers and Canadiens face off in Game 2 of the series. The Flyers lead the series 1-0 after crushing the Canadiens 6-0. Since the incident, Hickey has received about 150 e-mails, and they’re running about 3-to-1 on the apologetic side. He’s been invited to dinner, and some fans have asked him to join them for tailgating prior to Tuesday night’s Game 2. “I’ve seen bad behavior in every city.” he told the Inquirer. “We already had one riot in Montreal during the playoffs. It’s unfortunate. Some people use being fans as an excuse for bad behavior.”
When it comes to Philadelphia fans, it’s hard not to make the generalization that they’re all idiots. But they’re not, and as the article points out, there are moron fans in every city. You just hope that the morons find the other morons when they travel to each other’s stadiums and they can all pick on each other in one moron filled gangbang.

Bad year for Pittsburgh sports Posted by Anthony Stalter (05/13/2010 @ 12:00 pm)  Let’s recap 2010 for the Pittsburgh faithful: – Ben Roethlisberger is accused of sexually assaulting a woman…for the second time in less than a year. His six-game (which might be reduced to four games) suspension leaves the Steelers with Byron Leftwich or Dennis Dixon as their starting quarterback to start the 2010 season. – While nobody expects anything from them anyway, the Pirates, although currently not in last place, are six games below .500 and on pace to finish in the NL Central cellar once again this season (although not if the Astros can help it). – The defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins were shocked by the Canadiens Wednesday night in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals – on their home ice, no less. What’s worse is that the game was damn near over with 3:30 left in the second period as Montreal somewhat cruised to a 5-2 victory. The Habs have become a great story, but the Pittsburgh faithful can’t be too thrilled that the Pens lost to a less superior team. (I know, I know – “on any given day.”) – Pittsburgh doesn’t have a NBA team, but if they did, I’m convinced that they would be facing elimination right now in the playoffs. Either that, or gearing up for the NBA Draft Lottery. The Sporting News made Pittsburgh No. 1 for its annual “Best Sports Cities” rankings in October last year. I’m thinking “The Steel City” won’t take home the honors this year.

Here is the preview for the Montreal Canadiens… SUMMER SPLASH * Big moves over the summer in Montreal as Bob Gainey went against some of the conventional wisdom and provided the club with the shakeup it needed…and may have found the future is now in Montreal. * Some big names are gone from the roster, too as the Canadiens enter camp. Favorite Captain Koivu (of the Sako variety) was not re-signed and Alex Kovalev was also welcome to explore other pastures. Two big names in Montreal that are now playing elsewhere left some fans wondering about the overall strategy. They then saw defenseman Mike Komisarek go to Toronto and Chris Higgins traded to the Rangers. Is Celine Dion eyeing the Montreal Canadiens? Posted by Thomas Conroy (04/19/2009 @ 12:09 pm)  A group comprised of singer Celine Dion, Seagram heir Steven Bronfman, and Quebec media giant Pierre Karl Peladeau are considering making a bid to purchase the Montreal Canadiens away from current owner George Gillett. The franchise was recently valued at $335 million by Forbes magazine, and Gillett has stated he will only sell the team for the right price.
An investment banker close to the negotiation told the Toronto Globe and Mail that this group has been given full access to all financial data on the Canadiens. “There is a group bid being discussed, and it’s clear that Gillett is very willing to sell if the price is right,” said the investment banker, who is helping line up financing for potential bidders. However, the banker and other sources familiar with the possible sale of the team cautioned it will be difficult to strike a partnership that satisfies the strong personalities of Dion and husband René Angelil, Bronfman and Péladeau, the dominant player in Quebec media.
Dion is already considered French royalty in Canada, and her image could move to savior status if she bought the Canadiens back from an American. (Gillett is a Denver-based entertainment promoter.) Bank of Montreal has signed confidentially agreements with 10 potential suitors who have until Thursday to submit a formal bid on the team. The potential buyer will also acquire the Bell Centre in Montreal as well. Couch Potato Alert: 4/17 Posted by Thomas Conroy (04/17/2009 @ 11:10 am) John Madden was, um, colorful in the color analyst role on a NFL telecast. His catch phrases were the sound effects from the old Batman television series. After every play, you were guaranteed a “boom” or a “bam” from Madden in his description. He brought fun to the no fun league (NFL), and his name is synonymous in the gaming community for playing video football. And Madden was a maverick in another way; he left on top in two professions. He will be missed. The NBA and NHL postseasons start this weekend, and there are a few good baseball games on the tube as well. All times ET… NBA Playoffs
