      Top 10 Pound for Pound MMA Fighters in the World 7/14

      At one point following UFC 100 this past weekend, I felt like there are a lot of new questions about who the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world is.

      Georges St. Pierre certainly raised his stock with a definitive win over Thiago Alves, who was considered to be GSP’s toughest fight to date prior to UFC 100.

      Brock Lesnar also deserves some consideration for his dominant performance over Frank Mir, which left many wondering who can beat him.

      Here is my personalized top 10 ranking of who I feel are the top 10 overall fighters in the world. In making this list, I consider win-loss record, how convincingly the fighters have won their most recent fights, and their appeal to other fans. Well, here we go:

      1. Fedor Emelianeko (30-1-1) – Heavyweight – Affliction
      About a year ago, I was one of those people that claimed that Fedor was overrated and didn’t fight the best. Well, after two quick KO’s of Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski, you can’t argue that Fedor is not the best. The guy has virtually never lost, with his lone loss coming on a cut. The guy never changes his expression and never makes a mistake in his fights. Until someone beats him cleanly, Fedor will be at the top of my list.

      Friday MMA Review 5/22

      Here’s a weekly rundown of MMA content from Ben Goldstein of CagePotato.com:

      – Last weekend’s MMA action was highlighted by Bobby Lashley choking out Mike Cook in 24 seconds and a Bellator event jam-packed with wild fights.

      – Good news: PRIDE legend Mirko Cro Cop is returning to the UFC. Bad news: He’s back at the bottom of the heavyweight ladder.

      – Andrei Arlovski will be tangling with undefeated prospect Brett Rogers at Strikeforce’s stacked-to-death June 6th card. Rogers was originally supposed to face Alistair Overeem, but Overeem injured his hand while putting five nightclub bouncers in the hospital.

      – Wednesday’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter was plagued by staph infections, bronchitis, and an inconvenient gag-reflex.

      – Must-see videos: Brock Lesnar and Anderson Silva made us laugh Spencer Pratt made us cry, and BJ Penn cried wee wee wee all the way home.

      – After countless delays, Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett are slated to face each other this summer, at what will probably be Affliction’s last MMA event.

      – Former baseball star/steroid snitch Jose Canseco is having his MMA debut in Japan on Tuesday against 7’2″ kickboxer Hong Man Choi. His preparation is, shall we say, lacking.

      – Swing by CagePotato.com tomorrow night starting at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT as we liveblog UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida, which will feature the UFC’s best title fight in nearly a year. You can see more analysis of the fight card here and here.

      – Carlos Condit didn’t live up to the hype and Junie Browning didn’t live up to his mouth at Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night show. You can check out some videos from the event here.

      – Word on the street is that jiu-jitsu phenon Demian Maia will get the next crack at Anderson Silva’s UFC middleweight belt…assuming Silva crushes Thales Leites later this month at UFC 97.

      – BJ Penn will finally return to the lightweight division at UFC 101 (August 8th, Philadelphia), where he’ll take on #1 contender Kenny Florian. It will be the first time in 15 months that the UFC’s 155-pound strap will be on the line.

      – The ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter debuted Wednesday night, as 16 British hopefuls were cut down to eight official members of Team U.K. We do not have high hopes for this lot.

      – After a rage-filled video-blog entry that saw UFC prez Dana White use the word “faggot” and call a female reporter a “fuckin’ dumb bitch,” White has issued a public apology. To the gays, at least.

      – Is DADA the next Kimbo Slice?

      – We counted down some quick ‘n’ ugly MMA knockouts.

      Chuck Liddell– Unless he has a great performance against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua next month, the UFC might not want Chuck Liddell to fight for them anymore.

      – “King Mo” ruled and L.C. Davis got handled by a scrub at Sengoku: Seventh Battle. You can watch some of the fight videos here.

      – Former UFC light-heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz and porn legend Jenna Jameson just had twins.

      – After testing positive for three different unapproved painkillers following UFC 94, the Nevada State Athletic Commission smacked Karo Parisyan with a nine-month suspension, a $32,000 fine, and voided his last win.

      – We looked at a one-legged mixed martial artist and a sexy Arianny Celeste magazine shoot.

      – The full fighter roster for the “UFC 2009 Undisputed” video game was released. But where’s Randy?

      – Denied justice in the “Lubrigate” scandal, BJ Penn may be starting a cult at his shadowy island fortress.

      – If you have absolutely nothing going on Saturday night, why not watch former WWE star Bobby Lashley beat the bejesus out of Clay Guida’s brother at “March Badness”? Roy Jones Jr. will also be boxing in the main event. (You remember boxing, right? It’s like MMA, except you only get to throw punches, and you have to wear these weird pillow-things on your hands. And there’s no choking!)

      Diego SanchezHere’s a weekly rundown of MMA content from Ben Goldstein of CagePotato.com:

      – UFC 95 featured eight wild stoppages, Diego Sanchez’s successful debut as a lightweight, and a shocking (and somewhat controversial) loss for Josh Koscheck.

      – MMA heavyweight Tim Sylvia is trying his hand at boxing, while boxing heavyweight Hasim Rahman is trying his hand at MMA. Of the two, we’re guessing that Rahman’s failure will be more epic.

      – Georges St. Pierre’s camp has responded to BJ Penn’s accusation that he greased during their welterweight championship match last month by releasing a 17-page statement and a video showing that what his cornerman did was simply part of a breathing technique.

      – Living legends Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will likely be fighting at UFC 101 in Augusy — which may also be when BJ Penn and Kenny Florian face off for the UFC’s lightweight title.

      – New York Assemblyman Bob Reilly droned on and on and on about how MMA is like prostitution and how it breeds more violence in society And your point is?

      – We tried to get inside the head of 0-13 fighter Scott “LionHeart” Blevins.

      – WEC 39 goes down Sunday night in Corpus Christi, Texas, with featherweight champion Mike Brown making his first title defense against Leonard Garcia.
