CBS misses a golden opportunity

There were five Top 25 matchups in college hoops today:

2 PM: #22 Michigan State 67, @ #5 Texas 62 – CBS
2 PM: #7 Xavier 64, vs. #6 Duke 82 – CBS
4 PM: #2 UConn 88, @ #7 Gonzaga 83 – CBS
4 PM: #20 Davidson 58, @ #18 Purdue 76 – CBS
6 PM: #11 Syracuse 72, @ #21 Memphis 65 – ESPN

If I were in charge over at CBS Sports, I’d have set this up a little differently. Why not start one of the 2 PM games an hour earlier and one of the 4 PM games an hour later? Then market the day as “March Madness in December” and treat it like a day at the NCAA tournament. Everyone would start with the Duke/Xavier game and then if things get out of hand (which they did), we’d switch over to the Texas/MSU game. Regardless of what happened with the Duke game, we’d get most of the second half of the Texas game. Then everyone would get at least the first half of Davidson/Purdue before going out west to UConn/Gonzaga.

For those of us in Southern California, CBS did bail on the Duke blowout to catch the last 10 minutes of the Texas/MSU game. Got to give them props when they do get it right.

Your guide to what’s on the tube in the sports world this weekend…

Wow, with five Top 25 matchups, that’s a great lineup of games. Though I don’t know why CBS can’t schedule them back-to-back instead of having two games on at any given time.
