How much does the WWE miss The Rock? Posted by John Paulsen (09/23/2010 @ 9:44 am) There’s a good piece over at the Camel Clutch Blog that discusses The Rock’s golden years in the WWE. Know your role. Let’s roll the dice on legalized sports betting Posted by Thomas Conroy (05/18/2009 @ 3:07 pm) With his state’s budget sinking into a financial black hole, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell signed a sports wagering bill into law last week. An old argument was revived once again – should sports gambling be legalized in the United States? Why not? Gambling has been a part of Americana since our inception.
Government has been the biggest promoter of gambling, as 44 states have a lottery system and 29 states are home to casinos. It is time for our lawmakers to examine the idea of licensing and regulating the sports betting industry. Politicians use to avoid gambling like the plague, but that has all changed since the advent of riverboat gambling and Indian casinos in recent years. According to several different studies, approximately $380 billion is bet legally or illegally on sports in the United States each year, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, a certified public accountant firm, has estimated that the federal government could earn $2 billion over the next decade if they begin taxing rather than policing sports gambling. Couch Potato Alert: 4/3 Posted by Thomas Conroy (04/03/2009 @ 10:30 am) This weekend, WrestleMania 25 will be held in Houston, and it promises to be one of the biggest shows of the year. It’s a culmination of the past year’s feuds decided inside the squared circle. Vince McMahon created this event and Hulk Hogan put it on the map, but the rabid fans have turned WrestleMania into wrestling’s own Super Bowl. Their support has transformed the WWE into the most successful pro wrestling promotion in entertainment sports today. And for that, they should be applauded! McMahon wants fake wrestling to look less fake Posted by Anthony Stalter (10/13/2008 @ 10:27 am) Vince McMahon apparently wants wrestling to look be more real. Vince McMahon is said to want wrestling to become more real. Former WCW superstar Norman Smiley was hired as a trainer for WWE’s developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling because of his background experience in realistic Japanese wrestling. Officials would like wrestlers to make their punches appear that it’s connecting to the opponent and to perform moves that are more realistic. McMahon would like the wrestlers to put their hands up in defense when receiving a punch. Management have debated for more than a year on to use a knockout finish, which was recently done with the Undertaker and Big Show match at No Mercy. When WWE went into HD programming earlier this year the wrestlers were told to work closer to not reveal the unrealistic moves.
I think it’s fair to say at this point that the people who watch wrestling know it’s fake and only watch it for it’s storylines. Although give credit to McMahon for making his crap entertainment less crappier. |
