      UFC Fight Night 24 Results & Recap

      HeavyMMA went to Seattle for UFC Fight Night 24 and they’ve got a complete recap on the preliminary and main card bouts.

      ANTONIO ROGERIO NOGUEIRA vs. PHIL DAVIS
      Round 1: Davis circling away from Nogueira’s left to start, a wise decision. Head kick from Davis glances, both guys still finding range. Big kick from Phil lands, but Nogueira dones’t flinch. Exchange shots, Davis pushing in for a takedown, but Nogueira stays up. Davis driving knees into Nogueira’s thigh. Back into space, Nogueira measuring and swings wild with the left. Anything head kick offering from Davis. Shoots again, and again Nogueira stays up as the two clinch. Separated again, Davis tries with the head kick again, then gets another takedown denied. Big swing and a miss from Nogueira. Front kick from Davis misses. Head kick again from Davis and Nogueira lands his first solid left. Davis shoots and ends up throwing Nogueira to the ground, but the veteran is right back up. 30 seconds left. Swing and a miss again from Nogueira. Lands one at the 20 second mark, Davis shoots and again can’t get the takedown. Heavy scores it 10-9 Davis.

      Are You Not Entertained?

      When the critics come for Anderson Silva next, and they will come, the UFC middleweight champion should invoke Maximus Decimus Meridius. What more does a man have to do to silence his naysayers?

      Saturday night, Silva collected his 13th consecutive victory inside the Octagon and successfully defended his middleweight title for the eighth time. He finished Vitor Belfort with a beautiful and never-before-seen front kick to the face, courtesy of Steven Seagal no less.

      The victory solidifies Silva as the best fighter on the planet, at least in my eyes, and further cements his place as one of the all-time greats in this sport. It also locks him in for what could be the biggest fight in MMA history, a meeting with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, provided the reigning 170-pound king defeats Jake Shields in April.

      HeavyMMA.com interviews Brendan Schaub

      Jeremy Botter of HeavyMMA.com recently sat down with fighter Brendan Schaub to discuss the Gabriel Gonzaga fight and the grudge between Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson.

      Heavy: This is your pay per view debut for the UFC. How does it feel to be the guy that made the leap from fighting on the Spike prelims to the pay per view based almost solely on your performances?

      Schaub: It feels just like where I should be, man. You know how hard I work. And the hard work I’ve put in the Octagon these last few fights, it’s just an honor. It feels like I’m finally here, and I plan on staying here. This is why I work as hard as I do.

      Heavy: Gabriel Gonzaga was once in the position you’re in: on his way to the top, but not quite broken through yet. And then he knocked out Mirko Cro Cop and got a title fight. Do you view this as your moment to break through into the upper class of the division?

      Schaub: Yeah. I think so. You beat a guy like Gabriel Gonzaga and they can’t help but put you in the top five. As far as a title shot right away? No. I definitely need some more ring time. But I feel like I can compete with any of those guys up there, and I think with a convincing win over Gonzaga, I’ll shoot up there with those guys.

      WEC 51 Main Card Results: Aldo vs. Gamburyan

      In case you missed the action, Nate Lawson of HeavyMMA.com has the results from WEC 51, including the Aldo vs. Gamburyan bout.

      Jose Aldo vs. Manny Gamburyan for the WEC Featherweight Title
      Gamburyan started off strong with a big right hand, but Aldo looked completely fine with his power. Aldo looked to get his timing down, while the challenger looked to get to work quickly. Two minutes into the fight, and Aldo seemed content to display his patience. The fans, however, were not thrilled, pleading for some action. Aldo went back to the same style he had in his fight against Urijah Faber, landing several big kicks to the leg of Gamburyan. With 10 seconds to go, the challenger looked for a takedown, but the incredible balance of Aldo prevented that from happening.

      Gamburyan came out with some leg kicks of his own to start the second, followed by a takedown, which Aldo easily avoided. Aldo looked completely focused, trying to find his opening to finish the fight. He found one with a quick one-two that staggered Gamburyan. A follow-up uppercut sent Gamburyan to the floor, and Aldo went to work. The Brazilian sensation unloaded on his downed opponent, putting him out after an incredible amount of punishment. Aldo def. Gamburyan via knockout at 1:32 of Round 2.
