      Forrest Griffin Interview

      Spencer Kyte of HeavyMMA.com chats with former TUF winner (and former light heavyweight champ) Forrest Griffin about hepatitis, being heckled by teenage girls and fighting Rich Franklin.

      Heavy: I’ll be sure to include the fact in the interview.

      Griffin: That is important.

      Heavy: So that everybody is aware and everybody knows, Forrest Griffin does not have hepatitis.

      Griffin: Actually, you just go ahead and tell all the single women that I do have hepatitis so they stay away.
      Heavy: Perfect. I think my wife might want me to share that plan from now on too.

      Griffin: Just drop it casually, like, whenever you’re talking to women. What I always do is the “you know my wife” thing, just to make sure it doesn’t get awkward. Then you can just drop my hepatitis things too.

      Heavy: In the year-and-a-half I’ve been married, I’ve become very skilled at the “my wife and I” any time there are single women around. She’ll be glad to read that.

      Griffin: Well there is some exciting news for me, are we recording this, because this is the good shit?

      Heavy: I am, we are; we’re ready to go.

      Griffin: Good. Alright, well, I actually just had a very uncomfortable experience. I guess I was going to Starbucks the same time the school here let out, and I got cat-called by a bunch of teenage girls. It wasn’t as fun as you would imagine. It was actually kind of degrading.

      Rich Franklin breaks down Silva vs. Belfort

      Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin broke down the UFC 126 main event between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort for HeavyMMA.com.

      No one may be more qualified to discuss the UFC 126 main event between UFC middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort than Rich Franklin.

      The former UFC middleweight champion has fought and lost to both Silva and Belfort and has studied them in preparation for those fights. Franklin would be considered an expert if called into court to testify about the match up.

      “They’re similar because they’re both Brazilian and they’re both southpaws and both have a win over me,” jokingly said Franklin. “They’re both effective strikers. They’re both fast and use good footwork and all of that kind of stuff.”

      While both primarily strikers who possess ground games, Silva and Belfort are different kinds of strikers. Silva employs kicks from the outside and needs distance to execute his craft. Belfort is more effective in the pocket unleashing combinations with his hands.

      “Stylistically, on their feet, they’re different fighters. They’re both effective in their own rights,” said Franklin via conference call on Thursday. “It’s going to be interesting to see who’s going to come into the ring if this ends up being a stand up fight how this is going to play out stylistically.”

      UFC Fight Night 24 Main Card announced

      According to Spike TV officials, the main card of “UFC Fight Night: Ortiz vs. Nogueira,” which is official for Seattle, is set to broadcast live on March 26.

      Now that all bouts have been made official for “UFC Fight Night: Ortiz vs. Nogueira,” Spike TV officials have announced which four fights will be broadcast live this March.

      Though no fight order has been set for the three fights leading up to the main event of the show, a featherweight rematch between Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia will be featured on the main card, while Dan Hardy vs. Anthony Johnson and Duane Ludwig vs. Amir Sadollah will be as well. The headliner between light heavyweights Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will cap off the evening’s action.

      UFC Deserving of Praise for Fundraising Efforts
      For all the crap the UFC (and mixed martial arts in general) takes from opponents, name me another major sports organization that has brought their product directly to the men and women who protect us?

      Fight for the Troops 2 gave more than 3,200 soldiers the chance to watch the sport first-hand, and the fundraising efforts attached to the event generated more than $650,000 in donations during the broadcast alone. The initial Fight for the Troops event held two years ago raised over $4 million for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and Saturday’s event should eclipse that number when all the dollars are counted.

      While other major professional sports leagues honor soldiers during regularly scheduled games and show their support for the troops in various ways, the UFC is the only organization to bring their product onto an Army base and give those soldiers a night away from their everyday stresses.

      Diaz wants to take on GSP or Silva

      According to HeavyMMA.com, Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz wants to take on Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva.

      Nick Diaz is scheduled to defend his Strikeforce welterweight crown against Evangelista Santos Jan. 29 in San Jose, Calif., but that didn’t stop him from calling out UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre on a media conference call Thursday promoting “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg.”

      “I want to fight Georges St. Pierre,” said Diaz.
      Diaz’ Cesar Gracie teammate Jake Shields takes on St. Pierre at UFC 129 on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

      “I think my partner (Jake Shields) is going to take him out to be honest, coming up,” added the Strikeforce champion.

      “I got here and started fighting before most of them, including Georges St. Pierre, in the UFC. I was really mad at first that they were getting fights and recognition when I was here first,” said Diaz when asked how he stacks up against other top ranked welterweights.
