      Jermaine DyeDetroit Tigers vs Chicago White Sox
      The White Sox will try to keep their season alive when they face the Detroit Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. The Sox need have to win this make-up game in order to force a one-game playoff on Tuesday against the Twins, who currently lead the AL Central. Be sure to tune in and watch this crucial game on ESPN2 at 2:05 PM ET.

      Ravens vs Steelers
      The Ravens, led by rookie QB Joe Flacco and a strong defense, are on top the AFC North with a 2-0 record, but no one’s sold on them just yet. They travel to Pittsburgh to play a Steelers team that is coming off of a tough loss at Philadelphia last week. This is a good opportunity for the Ravens to show the NFL that they’re serious contenders. Watch this growing rivalry on ESPN at 8:30 PM ET.

      MLB Division Series
      The MLB playoffs begin this Wednesday with the Brewers heading to Philadelphia to play the Phillies at 3:00 PM ET. That game will be followed by Dodgers and Cubs at 6:30 PM ET. The Red Sox and Angels are the late game, starting at 10:00 PM ET. Thursday you can catch the Twins/White Sox go to Tampa to face the surprising Rays at 2:30 PM ET. The Brewers and Phillies will play game two at 6:00 PM ET. Game two of the Red Sox and Angels begins at 9:30 PM ET. All games can be seen on TBS.

      Pittsburgh vs #13 South Florida
      The Bulls of South Florida look to stay undefeated when they square off against the Pittsburgh Panthers this Thursday. With all of the upsets that occurred just this past weekend in college football, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Panthers come into Raymond James Stadium and steal one from the Bulls. This game can be seen on ESPN at 7:30 PM ET.

      Alabama vs. Georgia
      This game has actually exceeded all pre-season expectations, since the matchup now pits two top-10 teams against each other. Nick Saban is leading his Crimson Tide into Athens for a program temperature check. How much have they improved will be determined “between the hedges” against the undefeated Bulldogs on Saturday night. Coverage begins at 7:45PM EST on ESPN.       Illinois vs. Penn State
      Both schools will open conference play on Saturday evening at Beaver Stadium. The key matchup pits swift-footed Fighting Illini quarterback Juice Williams against the #1 defense in the Big Ten. After throwing for over 400 yards against Missouri in the season opener, Williams has since struggled with his passing efficiency and will go against a defense that has only allowed two passing touchdowns on the season. Joe Paterno is trying to avenge a tough loss last year in Champagne. Regional coverage begins at 8 PM EST on ABC.

      Major League Baseball
      How exciting will baseball be this weekend? Well, considering five teams (Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, and Milwaukee Brewers) are competing for three playoff spots, the excitement level is pretty high. The weather could be the biggest opponent for the teams on the East Coast, as the forecast calls for 80-90 percent chance of rain throughout the weekend. It’s difficult to imagine the amount of chaos several rainouts will bring to the end of the season. But there’s a good possibility that one, two, or three teams will have to play a 163rd or makeup game to break a tie on Monday or Tuesday. Check your local listing on ESPN, Fox Sports, and TBS on game coverage this weekend.

      Brett FavreJets vs. Chargers
      The New York Jets, coming off of a loss to the Patriots last week, travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers on Monday Night Football. The Chargers must still be fuming from that missed call by Ed Hochuli last week, so expect them to come out strong in front of their home crowd. Also: Be prepared to listen to Tony Kornheiser endlessly talk about Brett Favre. The game can be seen on ESPN at 8:30 PM ET.

      Chicago Cubs vs New York Mets
      The Chicago Cubs head to New York to face a Mets team that is currently 1.5 games behind the Phillies in the NL East. The Mets obviously need to win this series against a Cubs team that has already clinched the NL Central. Watch it on Wednesday at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN.

      Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins
      The White Sox go to Minnesota to play a Twins team that is just 2.5 games back in for the AL Central lead. It’s going to be a crucial series for both teams. It begins on Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET, check your local listings.

      USC vs Oregon State
      USC, the number one ranked team in college football, heads to Oregon to play the Oregon State Beavers this Thursday on ESPN at 9:00 PM ET. The Pac-10 is a tough division and the teams know each other very well. I’m not implying that it’s like the Beavers will shock USC, but anything is possible.

      37th Ryder Cup
      The three-day match-play competition between the United States and Europe has a way of making the world’s elite golfers wilt under the pressure of trying to capture the Ryder Cup. Over the last 25 years, it has become a hotly contested event, with the U.S. record at four wins, seven losses, and a tie, including three straight match defeats to the Europeans (the Ryder Cup takes place every two years). The competition will begin this morning at 7 AM EST on ESPN from the Valhalla Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky, and continue throughout the weekend on NBC.

      Wake Forest vs. Florida State
      Neither school has distinguished itself as a contender for securing a spot in the ACC championship game. Wake Forest would love to duplicate their last trip to Tallahassee, when they shutout the Seminoles 30-0 two years ago. Florida State has been playing short-handed due to player suspensions and will welcome back star wide receiver Preston Parker to the lineup on Saturday. Coverage begins at 7 PM EST on ESPN2.

      LSU vs. Auburn
      There’s no better way to start off the SEC season than with a LSU-Auburn showdown. The “Tiger Bowl” winner could establish itself as the team to beat in the SEC West, though Alabama might have a say in the matter down the road.       Georgia vs. Arizona State
      The luster has been taken off this game by the Sun Devils’ overtime loss at home to UNLV last week. It’s still a big game, as the Bulldogs are in the national title hunt despite being passed in the polls by USC and Oklahoma. ASU could get back in the BCS bowl picture with an upset in Tempe on Saturday night. Coverage begins at 8 PM EST on ABC.

      Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees
      This Sunday night, the final major league baseball game will be played at historic Yankee Stadium. The House That Ruth Built has been the home office for post-season success come October, as 100 World Series games have been played at the Stadium. This event will be nationally televised on ESPN beginning at 8 PM EST.

      Kansas vs. South Florida
      Seeking a repeat of their 2007 season, Coach Mark Mangino leads the 13th-ranked Jayhawks into Miami’s Raymond James Stadium on Friday night, when they face-off against #19 South Florida. This will be the second meeting between the two schools, the other was in 2006, a 13-7 Jayhawk victory in Lawrence. (click here for Anthony Stalter’s game preview)

      Ohio State vs. USC
      This game is being billed as “The Collision at the Coliseum,” but the Jaws of Life might be needed to save the Buckeyes if they do not bring their “A” game to Los Angeles. The key to this matchup is for OSU’s offensive line to get physical with Southern Cal’s defensive front. If they do not win the battle at the line of scrimmage, it will not matter who is running the football for Ohio State (RB Chris “Beanie” Wells, ankle, is a game-time decision). Road wins against the Trojans are a scarce commodity in the Pete Carroll era, as they hold a 39-3 mark at the Coliseum. This contest will played on Saturday night in front of a nationally-televised audience on ABC at 8:00 PM EST.

      Wisconsin vs. Fresno State
      The Badgers will travel to Central Valley, California to play in the most important game in Bulldog football history. Fresno State dominated Rutgers in their season opener, but they will need a victory Saturday night to keep their hopes of a BCS bowl berth alive. Wisconsin just needs a win to stay in the national title hunt. Tune in Saturday night at 10:30 PM EST on ESPN2 for this pivotal non-conference game.

      Milwaukee Brewers vs. Philadelphia Phillies
      The Brewers are trying to avoid another late-season collapse after coughing up an 8 ½ game lead in the NL Central last season. The Phillies will try to use this series as a springboard in getting back to the post-season. This is a key four-game series for both teams, with the Brewers three games ahead of the Phillies in the NL Wild Card race after losing the series opener last night 6-3 in Philadelphia.

      San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos
      Too many injuries for the Chargers to overcome this week, with Shawne Merriman on the mend until 2009 and now LaDainan Tomlinson and Antonio Gates each nursing injured big toes. (But both are expected to play on Sunday.) The Broncos offense appeared to be in mid-season form in their opener on Monday night.. Were they that good or were the Raiders that dreadful? That question will not be answered for at least another month, but a victory in this game could go a long way in establishing the Broncos as an AFC contender. Check your local CBS affiliate to see if they are televising this game at 4:00 PM ET.
