      Does Seymour want a new contract before reporting to Oakland?

      According to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora, he does:

      Given what I have heard today, I’d be very surprised to see Richard Seymour in Oakland without a new contract. Seymour has one year left on his existing deal and is less than thrilled about being dealt from New England to Oakland yesterday.

      Short of agreeing to a long-term deal, this situation remains sticky. The sides have a few days to figure things out, and contrary to what Raiders coach Tom Cable said today, there are no issues between Seymour and the Patriots to resolve, according to New England and league sources. It’s the norm for veterans of Seymour’s stature to get new deals as part of such trades, and given how much the Raiders parted with to get him — a 2011 first-round pick — there is not much disputing his worth.

      One would think that if Al Davis was willing to give up a first round pick to acquire Seymour then he’d also be willing to pay the defensive end what he wanted. Chances are that Davis would have tried to overpay for Seymour once he became a free agent this offseason, so it would be a little surprising to see him not work out a deal now with the defensive end.

      You’ve never experienced NASCAR until you’ve been driven around a track at 160 mph

      I had never been to a NASCAR race before this past weekend. So you could imagine how blown away I was when I got to ride around Atlanta Motor Speedway at 160-plus mph with driver Brad Keselowski, watch Nationwide’s Degree V12 300 from the pits and then take in the Sprint Cup’s Pep Boys 500 from the grandstand.

      When I was first invited to Atlanta as a guest of Degree V12, I didn’t know what to expect. When I told friends and family what I was about to embark on, the reactions ranged from excitement, to jealously, to flat out hatred that they didn’t have the same opportunity. (I’m pretty sure that one of my family members won’t be speaking to me at Thanksgiving dinner this year.)

      On Friday, along with three other media members, I was taken to Atlanta Motor Speedway via a party bus. When we got there (the track seemingly appeared out of nowhere, which played into the ambiance of the experience), we were driven to the infield and immediately shown the media center. From there, we went to the pits and got suited up for what would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

      The people from the Richard Petty Driving Experience helped us get into our flameproof suits and helmets, which was definitely one of those moments in my life when I questioned what the hell I was doing. Brad showed up shortly thereafter and immediately asked with a smile, “Is anyone scared?”

      Merriman claims he did nothing wrong

      In an update to an earlier story, Shawne Merriman denies harming his “female acquaintance” Tila Tequila.

      Per ESPN…

      In a statement late Sunday, Merriman said he was worried for the safety of Tila Tequila because she appeared to be intoxicated and he didn’t want her to drive.

      Merriman also said paramedics who were called to his home in Poway, north of San Diego, reported no injuries to Tequila, best known for “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” which ran for two seasons on MTV.

      His attorney told the AP via phone that there are numerous eye witnesses that will corroborate Merriman’s version of events.

      Shaun Hill recently beat out Alex Smith for the starting QB gig in San Francisco, but his Average Draft Position (ADP) hasn’t risen all that much. He’s still available in roughly 85% of ESPN’s fantasy leagues, and is a nice pickup for fantasy owners looking to bolster their QB position.

      Last season, he took over a 2-6 team in Week 10, and averaged 234 passing yards, 1.5 pass TD and 0.3 rush TD over the last eight games of the season. Subtracting interceptions (1.0 per game), this works out to about 19.1 fantasy points per game. Had Hill averaged these numbers over the course of an entire season, he would have finished as last year’s QB6, ahead of Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb. Moreover, he led the 49ers to a 5-3 record down the stretch, so he has proven that he can win games.

      Industry Insiders Fantasy League: Rounds 11-20

      My team so far: 1. Chris Johnson, 2. Steve Smith, 3. Ronnie Brown, 4. Marshawn Lynch, 5. Santana Moss, 6. Tony Romo, 7. Greg Olsen, 8. Jerricho Cotchery, 9. Fred Jackson, 10. Percy Harvin

      With the bulk of my starters covered, I entered the last half of my draft planning to load up on backups at the skill positions before grabbing a couple of defenses for a DTBC and a kicker to round out my roster. Here’s a quick rundown of the remainder of my draft.

      Round 11, Pick 8: Ben Roethlisberger, QB
      I was pleased to find Big Ben still available in the 11th round. Fantasy-wise, he struggled last year (QB16) but finished strong and led the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory. In 2007, he finished as QB6, and with a much easier schedule this season, I think he has a great chance to finish in the top 10. Besides, I like it that he looks like Will Ferrell after a weekend bender in Las Vegas.

      Round 12, Pick 5: Steve Smith (NYG), WR
      I felt pretty good (but not great) about my WR corps of Steve Smith (CAR), Santana Moss, Jerricho Cotchery and Percy Harvin, so I was looking for a dependable PPR guy here. I expect that Smith will lead the Giants in receptions this season by catching all of the underneath stuff. This is a dangerous pick, however, because I’m sure I’ll plug the wrong Steve Smith in at least once this season.
