      Fantasy Fallout, Week 3: Sunday’s Games

      Chiefs 14 @ Falcons 38
      If the matchup is good, you have to get Michael Turner in your lineup. He posted 104 rushing yards and three TD against a bad Kansas City rush defense…Jerious Norwood turned 12 touches into 105 yards…Matt Ryan had an efficient day, throwing for 192 yards and a score…Roddy White (5-119-1) had his first big game of the season and looks startable again…The Falcons defense had three picks (and returned one for a score, registered two sacks, and looks like a good start against bad defenses, especially at home…Larry Johnson looked like his old self rumbling for 121 yards and a score, though he’s still (mysteriously) not involved in the passing game…Dwayne Bowe (4-43-1) continues to play well despite the Chiefs problems at QB…Tony Gonzalez (4-35) had a quiet game but was involved…Tyler Thigpen threw for just 128 yards and a score, and was picked off three times.

      Raiders 23 @ Bills 24
      The Buffalo defense struggled in a game where they shouldn’t have. They gave up 23 points, and only registered a single sack and a single turnover…Marshawn Lynch looked great, turning 27 touches into 115 yards and two TD…Trent Edwards continued his steady play, posting 279 yards, one TD and one pick…Lee Evans (4-65) and Josh Reed (6-72) led the Bills in receiving, though Roscoe Parrish (3-42-1) was the only Buffalo wideout to score…JaMarcus Russell threw for 156 yards, one TD and also had a 1-yard touchdown run…Darren McFadden only had 48 yards on 17 touches, while Michael Bush had 60 yards on 15 touches…Zach Miller and Ronald Curry each failed to catch a ball, but there was a Javon Walker sighting as the gimpy wideout caught two passes for 18 yards.

      Bucs 27 @ Bears 24
      Brian Griese surprised everyone with 407 yards and two TD. He also threw for three picks, but since the Bucs couldn’t run the ball (Dunn – 31 yards, Graham – 16 yards), Tampa Bay called 67 passes…Antonio Bryant (10-138) seems to be the main beneficiary of Joey Galloway’s absence and is worth a pickup as long as Galloway is out…Ike Hilliard (6-57-1) thrives underneath and Jerramy Stevens (5-61-1) finally capitalized on some of that physical talent he has…Even Michael Clayton (5-54) got into the act…Brutal day for Earnest Graham (16 yards rushing, no catches)…Matt Forte (27 carries, 89 yards; 7-66-1 receiving) is an every week starter…Brandon Lloyd stepped up with 6-124-1, and after 5-66 last week, he’s starting to look like a wideout to roster…Kyle Orton (268 passing yards, 2 TD, 2 INT) had a nice fantasy day.

      Panthers 10 @ Vikings 20
      Carolina was in control (10-3) until a sack and fumble return for a TD late in the first half…Jake Delhomme (191 passing yards) had a disappointing day, especially with Steve Smith (4-70) back, against a suspect Minnesota secondary…Predictably, the Panthers couldn’t run against the Vikings stout defensive line. Jonathan Stewart (7 touches, 15 yards, 1 TD) and DeAngelo Williams (12 touches, 44 yards) just couldn’t get anything going…Muhsin Muhammad (3-25) and Dante Rosario (2-18) suffered through Delhomme’s bad day…Gus Frerotte (204 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) had a solid if unspectacular day…The same goes for Adrian Peterson (17 carries, 77 yards)…Chester Taylor had 14 touches for 66 yards…Bernard Berrian (3-79) and Visanthe Shiancoe (2-38-1) seemed to benefit the most from Frerotte under center.

      Dolphins 38 @ Patriots 13
      This was a stunner…Fantasy owners ballsy (or desperate) enough to start Ronnie Brown against a normally stout Patriot rush defense were rewarded with one of the all-time best fantasy lines; he had 17 rushes for 113 rushing yards and four rush TD and also threw for a score…Anthony Fasano followed up last week’s goose egg with nice 3-66-1 day…Chad Pennington was solid (226 passing yards), but failed to throw for a score…Ricky Williams turned 18 touches into 119 yards, but didn’t score…Greg Camarillo (4-60) and Ted Ginn (5-49) led the WR corps…Matt Cassel might be in trouble as the starter if the best he can do against the Dolphins is 131 passing yards, one TD and a pick. He had a rushing TD that was called back because the ref thought he was in the grasp. Bad call…Wes Welker (6-55) led the Patriots in receiving and also had a 19-yard run…Jabar Gaffney (6-51-1) had a nice day but Randy Moss (4-25) did not. It looks like Cassel under center is really affecting Moss…Sammy Morris (10 touches, 27 yards) and LaMont Jordan (6 touches, 22 yards) filled in horribly for Laurence Maroney…The Patriots DT failed to register a sack and only forced one turnover. A horrible all-around day for New England.

      Bengals 23 @ Giants 26
      Eli Manning got off to a slow start but finished with 286 yards passing and a TD…Plaxico Burress (3-45) wasn’t much of a factor. Amani Toomer (5-64) led the Giants in receiving yards, while Steve Smith (7-60) and Kevin Boss (3-51-1) picked up Burress’ slack…Brandon Jacobs (14 carries, 35 yards, TD) was largely ineffective, while Derrick Ward (12 touches, 106 yards) was the Giants’ best RB on the day…Ahmad Bradshaw only saw three touches on the day…Carson Palmer broke out of his slump with 286 yards and a TD, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (12-146-1) had a monster day…Chad Johnson (3-29) was quiet…Chris Perry (22 touches, 93 yards and a TD) looks like he’s startable under certain circumstances…Shayne Graham looks like a decent option now that the Bengals offense looks like it’s back on track.

      Texans 12 @ Titans 31
      LenDale White was the Tennessee RB to shine this week with 49 yards and two TD. Chris Johnson turned 18 touches into 79 yards…With Justin Gage out, Kerry Collins (189 passing yards, TD, INT) focused on Justin McCareins (4-90) and Bo Scaife (3-26-1), who continues to be a better fantasy TE than Alge Crumpler (2-26)…Matt Schaub (188 passing yards, no TD, 3 INT) had a horrible day, and Andre Johnson (2-29) suffered as a result…Owen Daniels (4-71) posted nice numbers, but it was Steve Slaton (22 touches for 124 total yards and a TD) that was the Texans’ offensive star.

      Cardinals 17 @ Redskins 24
      Things are looking pretty good for Washington’s new West Coast Offense, as Jason Campbell threw for 193 yards and two TD…Clinton Portis (23 touches, 86 yards, TD) had a solid day…Santana Moss (7-75-1) continued his strong play, while Chris Cooley (7-72) had nice numbers for a TE…Antwaan Randle El (3-23) was quiet…Kurt Warner (192 yards, 2 TD, INT) put up nice stats and Larry Fitzgerald (7-109-1) was the main beneficiary…Anquan Boldin (3-25-1) had a quiet day but did score…Edgerrin James (20 touches, 108 yards) didn’t score for the third consecutive week.

      Saints 32 @ Broncos 34
      Jay Cutler threw for 264 yards, 2 TD and was picked off once in another nice game…Brandon Marshall (6-155-1) had another huge game, but Eddie Royal (4-11) wasn’t very involved…Tony Scheffler (4-32) followed up last week’s huge game with a quiet one…Selvin Young turned 12 touches into 72 yards, but was once again pulled around the goal line. Michael Pittman (5 carries, 2 yards, TD) scored again…Drew Brees (421 yards, TD) had a monster day throwing to Reggie Bush (11-75-1), Jeremy Shockey (8-75), Lance Moore (7-78) and six other receivers…Bush also carried the ball 18 times for 73 yards and a TD, but was pulled at the goal line for Pierre Thomas (9 touches, 23 yards, 2 TD)…Still no sign of Deuce McAllister.

      Lions 13 @ 49ers 31
      J.T. O’Sullivan (189 passing yards, 2 TD, 32 rushing yards) is turning into a good start against certain competition…Frank Gore (31 touches, 162 yards, TD) continues to play like a beast…Bryant Johnson (1-25) was a disappointment, while Delanie Walker (3-44-1) turned in a nice game…Isaac Bruce (2-19-1) also caught a TD, while Vernon Davis (1-17) had another disappointing game. For some reason, Mike Martz does not like using Davis…Jon Kitna (146 yards, TD, INT) struggled, and Calvin Johnson (4-40) and Roy Williams (2-18) posted bad numbers as a result…Rudi Johnson (17 touches, 131 yards, TD) capitalized on the mysterious disappearance of Kevin Smith from the Lions’ gameplan. Rudi looked spry and should be owned in all leagues pending word of Smith’s status.

      Rams 13 @ Seahawks 37
      Despite Seattle’s decimated receiving corps, Matt Hasselbeck (172 passing yards, TD) still had a decent day. With Bobby Engram and Deion Brach supposedly back in Week 5, Hass is a guy to try to buy low, especially if his current owner has another good QB to lean on…Julius Jones had another huge day (140 yards rushing, TD) and looks like a good start as long as Maurice Morris remains out…T.J. Duckett (19 carries, 79 yards, 2 TD) was a big factor as well…In the receiving game, it was Billy McMullen (4-75), TE John Carlson (2-38) and Michael Bumpus (2-29-1)…Marc Bulger struggled (184 yards, TD, INT) and Torry Holt (4-37) continues his relatively quiet season…Steven Jackson had 128 total yards on 28 touches, but failed to score.

      Browns 10 @ Ravens 28
      The Ravens defense racked up four sacks, one fumble recovery and picked off three passes (including an Ed Reed return TD)…Joe Flacco struggled (129 passing yards, 2 INT), but it didn’t matter…Willis McGahee returned to carry the ball 15 times for 64 yards and a score, while Le”Ron McClain carried the ball 17 times for 66 yards and two TD…Ray Rice was a non-factor (5 carries, 21 yards)…Derrick Mason led all Baltimore receivers with 4-42, while Todd Heap chipped in with 2-32…Mark Clayton (2-14) wasn’t very involved…Derek Anderson (125 yards, TD, 3 INT) and Jamal Lewis (15 touches, 77 yards) struggled, as did Braylon Edwards (3-27) and Kellen Winslow (2-14). I wonder when the Brady Quinn talk will start.

      Jaguars 23 @ Colts 21
      Fred Taylor (26 carries, 121 yards) and Maurice Jones-Drew (19 carries, 107 yards, TD) took advantage of a very bad Colts rush defense that was missing Bob Sanders. Jones-Drew also had 4-59 in the passing game…Despite the win, David Garrard (167 yards, INT) continued his disappointing season…Matt Jones (4-32) should be rostered in bigger PPR leagues…Peyton Manning (216 yards, TD, 2 INT) wasn’t particularly sharp and Reggie Wayne (3-72) and Marvin Harrison (4-40-1) had quiet games as a result…Anthony Gonzalez (2-37) came back to Earth after a huge game last week…Joseph Addai turned 17 touches into 88 yards and two scores.

      Steelers 6 @ Eagles 15
      This was an all-around ugly game…Donovan McNabb (196 passing yards, TD, INT) finished with decent numbers…Brian Westbrook (five carries, 12 yards) was knocked out of the game with an ankle injury and is iffy for Week 4. The guy to pick up is Correll Buckhalter, who turned 16 touches into 87 yards and a TD…Hank Baskett (8-84) had a nice game, while DeSean Jackson (5-40) was a mild disappointment…The Eagles DT posted nine sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception and should be owned in most leagues…The Steelers struggled offensively…Ben Roethlisberger (131 yards, 2 INT, 2 fumbles) had an awful game and was knocked out after a wrist injury…Willie Parker (13 carries, 20 yards) was also a disappointment, as was Hines Ward (4-34) and Santonio Holmes (3-32)…The only real bright spot was Heath Miller (4-63).

      Cowboys 27 @ Packers 16
      The Packers limited Terrell Owens to just 2-17, but Miles Austin (2-115-1) and Jason Witten (7-67) had big days…Patrick Crayton failed to catch a pass, and probably isn’t worth starting unless he can get on track…Tony Romo (260 pass yards, TD, INT) finished with decent numbers…Marion Barber (31 touches, 157 yards, TD) was the star…Felix Jones also contributed with seven carries for 76 yards, which included a 60-yard TD run…Aaron Rodgers (290 yards, rush TD) finished with good numbers but he didn’t have a great game…Greg Jennings (8-115) continues to shine while Donald Driver (4-76) is taking more of a complementary role…Jordy Nelson (4-42) seems to be the team’s WR, while Donald Lee (5-41) is simply a solid backup fantasy TE…Ryan Grant looked a lot better, but only finished with 54 yards on 13 carries. Still the ypc (4.2) is respectable and it looked like he had his burst back. I expect him to pick it up over the next month as long as he doesn’t tweak that hammy.

      NFL Week 3 Recaps

      Below are snippets of all the Week 3 action in the NFL. For more analysis and discussion on each game, click on the links provided.

      Ronnie Brown– Ronnie Brown scored five touchdowns as the Miami Dolphins shocked the New England Patriots 38-13.

      – The New York Giants avoided their first loss of season thanks to John Carney’s 22-yard game-winning field goal in a 26-23 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime.

      – Matt Ryan and Michael Turner helped the Falcons earn their second win of the season as Atlanta crushed the Chiefs 38-14.

      – The Bills needed a 38-yard game winning field goal from Rian Lindell as time expired to beat the Oakland Raiders 24-23.

      – Brian Griese attempted a near-record 67 passes as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Chicago Bears 27-24 in overtime. It was the second time in as many weeks that the Bears lost despite having a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.

      – The Vikings used a great defensive effort to beat the Carolina Panthers 20-10, earning their first win of the season.

      – The Tennessee Titans flustered Houston QB Matt Schaub in a 31-12 rout of the Texans.

      – Jason Campbell and the Washington Redskins earned their second victory of the year, beating the Arizona Cardinals 24-17.

      Denver Broncos– The red-hot Broncos won their third straight, beating the New Orleans Saints in a wild, 34-32 shootout in Denver.

      – The Eagles harassed QB Ben Roethlisberger all game, coming away with a 15-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Philly.

      – Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens notched their second win of the year, beating Derek Anderson and the struggling Cleveland Browns 28-10.

      – Julius Jones rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown as the Seattle Seahawks crushed the hapless St. Louis Rams, 37-13.

      – Offensive coordinator Mike Martz and his San Francisco 49ers beat his former team, the Detroit Lions 31-13.

      – The Jacksonville Jaguars avoided falling to 0-3 on the season thanks to Josh Scobee’s 51-yard field goal with less than 10 seconds remaining in a 23-21 win over division rival Indianapolis.

      Campbell sharp as Redskins top Cardinals 24-17

      After dropping their opener to the New York Giants, the Washington Redskins have rebounded over the past two weeks. The Skins notched their second game of the year, beating the Arizona Cardinals 24-17 on Sunday.

      It was over when…
      Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell made a play-fake and completed a 26-yard pass on second-and-7 with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game. The first down enabled Washington to go into the victory formation and kill the rest of the clock.

      Game ball
      Campbell was sharp for the second straight week as he made several clutch third-down throws, tossed two touchdowns and also showed impressive scrambling ability, twice extending drives by rushing for a first down. He finished 22-of-30 through the air for 193 yards and added 26 on the ground.

      Key stat
      As is often the case in close games, the difference proved to be turnovers. The Redskins had two takeaways, while the Cardinals failed to force a single turnover. Washington scored 10 points off of its
      takeaways.

      Noteworthy
      Santana Moss became the first Redskins receiver to catch a touchdown in six consecutive games going back to Bobby Mitchell in 1961. … Each team had a long touchdown taken away by penalty. The Cardinals were called for delay of game on what appeared to be a first-quarter touchdown on fourth-and-1, and the Redskins were called for unnecessary roughness on what seemed to be a 68-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. … Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has three 100-yard receiving games in his last four outings stretching back to last season. … Each team had a receiver complete a pass. Arizona’s Jerheme Urban had an 18-yard completion and Washington’s Antwaan Randle El tossed an 11-yarder.

      After their loss to New York, it looked like it would take an entire season for QB Jason Campbell and the Redskins to learn Jim Zorn’s West Coast Offense. But they’ve turned things around since and actually look pretty sharp. Washington was supposed to be the worst of the NFC East, but in New Orleans and Arizona, they’ve beaten two decent teams in back to back weeks now.

      After beating the 49ers and Dolphins, this was the Cards first real test of the season. They didn’t fail by any means, but the defense didn’t play as well Sunday as it did in their previous weeks. But the encouraging thing is that the Kurt Warner (192 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) and the offense looks pretty sharp in the early going and the NFC West can be had.

      Week 3 NFL Primer

      Aaron RodgersSunday’s Best: Cowboys (2-0) at Packers (2-0) 8:15 PM ET NBC
      General NFL fans and fantasy football owners alike are pumped for this Sunday Night Football matchup. The home team generally has the upper hand, with the host going 14-2 in the last 27 years of this underrated rivalry. Before becoming a starter this season, Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers only saw significant playing time one other time in his career – last year in a regular season loss to the Cowboys after Brett Favre was injured following two interceptions. Rodgers did well, too, completing 18 of 26 passes and tossing one touchdown. The Dallas defense will be well prepared for Rodgers this time, although the Cowboys are coming off a short week after beating the Eagles on Monday night.

      Upset Watch: Saints (1-1) at Broncos (2-0) 4:05 PM ET FOX
      If there’s one thing the NFL has taught fans over the years is to expect the unexpected. After two weeks, the Broncos look like world-beaters and after losing last week in Washington, the Saints appear to be vulnerable. But Denver’s defense didn’t play well in the second half last week and even without WR Marques Colston, New Orleans has more than enough offensive weapons to make things interesting this weekend in Denver. The Broncos are coming off an emotionally draining win last Sunday against San Diego, not to mention an emotionally draining week having to answer questions about Ed Hochuli’s blown call. Could the pissed off Saints be catching Denver at the right time?

      Ben RoethlisbergerIntriguing Matchup: Steelers (2-0) at Eagles (1-1), 4:15 PM ET CBS
      If it weren’t for the mega matchup in Green Bay on Sunday night, the Steelers-Eagles game Sunday evening would be the best of the Week 3 schedule. Pittsburgh has looked very good in its two victories, but questions remain about the health status of QB Ben Roethlisberger, who is dealing with a bad shoulder (although head coach Mike Tomlin says Big Ben’s shoulder isn’t separated). Philadelphia will be coming off a short week after playing on Monday night, but the Eagles are always tough to beat at home. Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook will also look to bounce back after fumbling away an opportunity to beat the Cowboys. This should be a physical game between two very good teams.

      Other Notable Games:
      Jaguars at Colts, 4:15 PM ET CBS
      Jacksonville’s offensive line is incredibly beat up, which hasn’t bode well for the usually-explosive Jag running game. But Indy lost its best run-defender in Bob Sanders for 4-6 weeks and the Vikes’ Adrian Peterson ran wild on them last Sunday. Could the Jaguars really start the season 0-3? Could the Colts really start 1-2? Neither team looks like the potential Super Bowl contenders everyone thought they would be entering the season.

      Panthers at Vikings, 1 PM ET FOX
      The Vikings are looking for their first win of the season while the Panthers are looking to gain even more of an edge in the NFC South. Can Carolina keep Adrian Peterson in check? Will Steve Smith take advantage of a weak Minnesota secondary in his first action of the season after serving a two game suspension?

      Cardinals at Redskins, 1 PM ET FOX
      Usually this game would be a bore-fest, but Arizona is 2-0 and Washington might have gotten on track after beating the Saints last Sunday. The Cardinals could open up a decent size lead in the NFC West with a victory.

      Fantasy Fallout, Week 2: Sunday’s Games

      Much of Week 2 has come and gone, and road teams were 9-5 in Sunday’s games. Here is just about everything you need to know (fantasy-wise) from Sunday’s action.

      Steelers 10 @ Browns 6
      Ben Roethlisberger has been fighting a sore shoulder, but he manned-up in tough conditions tonight, throwing for 186 yards and a TD in an important divisional matchup…Hines Ward (5-59-1) and Santonio Holmes (5-94) were his main targets, but Heath Miller (2-33) was also involved…Willie Parker rushed 28 times for 105 yards, while Rashard Mendenhall didn’t register a single carry. This is the Willie Parker show for now…The Steelers defense showed up with two sacks and two picks, and allowing just six points to the Browns…Derek Anderson had a rough game (166 yards, 2 INT) and Braylon Edwards (3-32) wasn’t much help…Kellen Winslow (7-55) was the only bright spot in the Cleveland passing game and he wasn’t even on the field for the final play…In a tough matchup, Jamal Lewis grinded 22 touches (including three catches) into 66 total yards.

      49ers 33 @ Seahawks 30
      All in all, a pretty mediocre performance by the Seattle defense, even though they posted eight sacks, forced a fumble and returned an interception for a TD. The fantasy points are nice, but they allowed 26 points to the 49ers offense…J.T. O’Sullivan seems to be settling into Mike Martz’s system. He had 321 passing yards and threw a TD to Bryant Johnson (who posted 6-78-1 in the win)…Isaac Bruce showed up with a 4-158 day, while Frank Gore had a solid all-around game, turning 24 touches (including five catches) into 99 yards and a TD. For those that were worried about Martz forgetting about his RB, I think the first two weeks of the season indicate that Gore is very much on Martz’s mind…Vernon Davis failed to register a catch, which is pretty worrisome considering all the success O’Sullivan had through the air…Matt Hasselbeck’s woes continue (189 passing yards, 2 INT) – he just doesn’t have the weapons to throw to. It might be a good time to try to buy low, as he should get Deion Branch and Bobby Engram back in Week 5…With Maurice Morris out with an injury, Julius Jones took advantage by turning 29 touches into 141 yards and a score. He looks like a solid start as long as Morris is out…Rookie TE John Carlson went for 6-78 and should be a fringe starting TE as long as Seattle is having WR troubles…Speaking of wideouts, Billy McMullen was the best of the bunch with three catches for 48 yards.

      Falcons 9 @ Bucs 24
      Brian Griese played decent as Tampa Bay’s starter. He hit on 18 of his 31 passes for 160 yards and a TD. He looks like a backup option or possible starter in 2 QB leagues…Earnest Graham was kind of quiet to start, but busted a 68-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to finish with 128 total yards on 16 touches. Hopefully, that will earn him some more work, but right now he and Warrick Dunn (15 touches, 70 yards, TD) are pretty much splitting the work…Joey Galloway (2-18) and Ike Hilliard (4-41) both had relatively quiet days…Michael Turner came crashing to Earth with a 15-touch, 48-yard, zero-TD effort. He looks like a starter depending on the matchup…Matt Ryan threw for 158 yards and two interceptions, and never really seemed to get on track…Roddy White (4-59) and Laurent Robinson (4-45) shared the receiving duties.

      Dolphins 10 @ Cardinals 31
      Kurt Warner filleted the Miami defense for 361 yards and three scores, which were all thrown to Anquan Boldin (6-140-3)…Larry Fitzgeraled (6-153) also had a very nice day…It looks like Tim Hightower (11 touches, 44 yards, TD) is going to continue to poach goal line carries from Edgerrin James (19 touches, 55 yards)…The Cardinals defense played pretty well with 10 PA, two sacks and a forced fumble…Where in the world is Anthony Fasano? After a huge game last week, he put up a goose egg this week, so he’s obviously not a safe option at TE…Chad Pennington struggled all day and finished with just 112 passing yards and no TD…Ricky Williams (12 touches, 29 yards) and Ronnie Brown (13 touches, 44 yards, TD) both struggled to get things going on the ground…Derek Hagan (3-51) and Greg Camarillo (4-49) led a pretty unimpressive group of WRs…For Ted Ginn owners, it might be time to look elsewhere for help at wideout. He had just one catch for nine yards.

      Chargers 38 @ Broncos 39
      San Diego got screwed in the best game of the day, but given the score, there were obviously a number of different fantasy stars…Brandon Marshall returned from his one-game suspension to post a mind-boggling 18 catches for 166 yards and a score…Jay Cutler (350 yards, 4 TD, INT) ignored everyone else at times, throwing only to Marshall. However, Tony Scheffler (6-64-2) and Eddie Royal (5-37-1) both managed big games as well…Selvin Young led Denver’s RBBC with nine touches for 86 yards. Andre Hall (7-31) and Michael Pittman (7-30-1) did their part as well. Pittman is clearly the team’s short-yardage back…Phillip Rivers (377 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT) had a huge day and looks like he’s made serious progress in his game since last season…LaDainian Tomlinson was bothered by a sore toe, so he was limited to just 12 touches for 40 yards. The team might want to shut him down if it means the toe will heal, because Darren Sproles managed to turn nine touches into 125 yards, including a dynamic 66-yard reception for a score…Chris Chambers (4-83-2) is turning into a good receiving threat, while Vincent Jackson (6-73) is making progress as well…Antonio Gates turned in a modest four catches for 61 yards.

      Patriots 19 @ Jets 10
      New England isn’t dead yet. The defense turned in two sacks, an interception and just 10 PA…Matt Cassel was efficient yet unspectacular with 165 yards passing and no scores or picks. The Patriots didn’t ask him to do too much. They were pretty content just to kick field goals once they got into the redzone…Wes Welker had seven catches for 72 yards and outshined Randy Moss, who caught just two passes for 22 yards. Cassel and Moss almost connected on a bomb, but the ball was seriously underthrown. Moss still should have made the catch, however…Laurence Maroney only managed seven carries before leaving the game with a shoulder injury. He came back into the game to carry the ball one more time, finishing with eight carries for 16 yards…Sammy Morris (10 touches, 7 yards, TD) and LaMont Jordan (11 carries, 62 yards) continue to cut into Maroney’s touches…Brett Favre had a decent game, posting 181 yards, a TD and a pick in the loss…He and Laveranues Coles (3-72) seemed to find a little bit of a groove, while Jerricho Cotchery was held to just one catch for 20 yards…Favre seems to like rookie Chansi Stuckey (4-43-1), who has now caught a TD in each of the first two games…Thomas Jones (19 touches, 75 yards) had a quiet game against a good Patriots defense.

      Bears 17 @ Panthers 20
      It looks like Carolina is destined to be in a lot of close games this season…Donte Rosario fought an injury this week and fell back to Earth with just one catch for six yards…Jonathan Stewart got a lot of work late in this game and finished with 14-77-2. It looks like he and DeAngelo Williams are going to form a RBBC until further notice…Muhsin Muhammad (5-59) was the only Carolina receiver of note as a result of Jake Delhomme’s quiet day (128 passing yards, INT)…Matt Forte had another nice day (26 touches, 113 yards) but failed to score…Brandon Lloyd (5-66) was the only Bears receiver to catch more than three passes.

      Titans 24 @ Bengals 7
      It looks like the Bengals offense is in serious trouble…Carson Palmer had another miserable day, throwing for just 134 yards and two interceptions…As a result, Chad Ocho Cinco (4-37) and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (3-26) had quiet days…Chris Perry’s touchdown was Cincinnati’s only offensive bright spot…For the Titans, Justin Gage turned his sleeper status into 5-59-1, but otherwise the Titans’ passing game was pretty quiet. Kerry Collins represents an improvement in the passing game, but Tennessee didn’t really need to throw the ball much against the Bengals…Chris Johnson (19 carries, 109 yards) and LenDale White (18 carries, 59 yards, TD).

      Packers 48 @ Lions 25
      Aaron Rodgers was a strong start against Detroit and he didn’t disappoint, throwing for 328 yards and three TD, while also gaining 25 yards on the ground…Ryan Grant was a fantasy dud, posting just 20 yards on 15 carries. Meanwhile, Brandon Jackson gained 61 yards and scored once on seven carries…Greg Jennings (6-167), Donald Driver (7-52-1), James Jones (4-29-1) and Jordy Nelson (1-29-1) all had good games for the Packers receiving corps…The Green Bay defense posted five sacks, three interceptions and two interception return TD in a big defensive day…The Lions got off to a slow start, but started getting their offense going once they fell behind by 21 points…Calvin Johnson was the Lions’ brightest star, posting 6-129-2, while Roy Williams went for just 3-48. It appears that Calvin is taking over as the Lions WR1…Jon Kitna threw for 276 yards and two TD, but also had three costly picks…Rookie Kevin Smith turned 14 touches into 61 yards, but became an afterthought in the offense once Detroit fell behind.

      Bills 20 @ Jaguars 16
      Trent Edwards (239 passing yards, TD) had a nice day throwing the ball, specifically to Fred Jackson (7-83) and Lee Evans (4-77)…Marshawn Lynch turned 20 touches into just 67 yards, but did score a TD…After a big game last week, Robert Royal failed to register a catch this week…The Jaguars offense is in trouble…David Garrard threw for 165 yards and had a pick…Fred Taylor (54 total yards) and Maurice Jones-Drew (42 total yards, TD) both had pretty quiet games…Matt Jones was the Jags’ top receiver (5-50)…The Bills defense (16 PA, two sacks, one INT) looks pretty good.

      Raiders 23 @ Chiefs 8
      The Oakland running game really looked good, with Darren McFadden (21-164-1) taking over for Justin Fargas (9-43) after an injury knocked Fargas out of the game…Michael Bush (16-90-1) also got some serious work late in the game…JaMarcus Russell (55 yards passing) struggled and Ronald Curry failed to catch a pass…Zach Miller (2-24) led the Raiders in receiving…Damon Huard was knocked of the game and Tyler Thigpen came in to throw for 151 yards, a TD and a pick…Dwayne Bowe (6-90) and Tony Gonzalez (5-39-1) predictably led the Chiefs in receiving…Larry Johnson had 12 carries for 22 yards and zero catches in a very disappointing day.

      Colts 18 @ Vikings 15
      Peyton Manning and the Colts passing game got off to a slow start, but Manning finished with 311 yards and a TD, though he did throw two picks…Anthony Gonzalez (9-137) and Reggie Wayne (5-93-1) were his favorite targets while Marvin Harrison caught just one pass for 16 yards…Joseph Addai never really got the running game going, finishing with 20 yards and a score on 15 carries…Ryan Longwell accounted for all of Minnesota’s points, hitting five field goals on the day…Adrian Peterson gained 180 total yards on 33 touches…Tarvaris Jackson had a bad day, throwing for just 130 yards without throwing a TD or a pick…Bobby Wade was the Vikings’ top receiver with 42 yards on three catches…Neither Bernard Berrian nor Sidney Rice managed to catch a pass in the game.

      Giants 41 @ Rams 13
      Eli Manning had a great day, throwing for 260 yards and three TD. Plaxico Burress (5-81-1) and Amani Toomer (6-67-1) were his two favorite targets…Brandon Jacobs (15-93) led the Giants in rushing, but Ahmad Bradshaw (six touches, 70 yards, 2 TD) had a big game in garbage time…Torry Holt (6-76-1) had a pretty solid stat line, while Marc Bulger (177 passing yards, TD, INT) had a mediocre game…Steven Jackson only had 53 yards on the ground, but caught seven passes for 37 yards to post decent numbers in PPR leagues.

      Saints 24 @ Redskins 29
      The Redskins got big games out of Clinton Portis (21 carries, 96 yards, 2 TD) and Santana Moss (7-164-1), and Chris Cooley chipped in with five catches for 72 yards…Jason Campbell had a nice day, posting 321 yards and a TD, and the nice all-around numbers from the Redskins indicate that maybe the implementation of the West Coast Offense isn’t going so badly after all…Drew Brees had a medicore game (216 passing yards, TD, 2 INT) and the Saints had a tough time running the ball…Reggie Bush posted good numbers in PPR leagues with seven catches for 63 yards even though he only had 28 yards on the ground…David Patten went for 5-55…Pierre Thomas (8 touches, 37 yards, 1 TD) continues to back up Bush…Robert Meachem had one catch for 19 yards and a TD.
