Lucky Tennessee escapes with win vs App State

They might want to tone down the volume on this hype video.

The Tennessee Volunteers literally needed a fumble into the end zone in overtime for a lucky TD to defeat Appalachian State tonight. The Vols were ranked 9th in the AP poll heading into the season with the hype machine behind this program in overdrive.

And while you could clearly see the superior talent on the field, the Vols had trouble all night with App State. They needed a missed extra point and a missed field goal by App State along with a lucky fumble recovery to pull this one out.

The Vols will surely drop out of the top ten, but this may be a much-needed wake-up call. Volunteers QB Josh Dobbs needs to use his legs more, as his passing skills won’t lead this team to an SEC title.

It’s easy to make too much of opening weekend games in college football. These are young college kids who don’t get the benefit of any preseason games, so we’ll wait and see before we completely bury Tennessee.

Teddy Bridgewater injures his knee

It looks like Teddy Bridgewater has suffered a serious knee injury, as he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and is currently sedated and getting and MRI according to the Vikings. We don’t have any confirmation yet on the extent of the injury but all signs point to Teddy being lost for the season, which would be a huge blow to the playoff chances for the Vikings. There are probably many fantasy owners out there who will have to juggle their rosters as well . . .

It will be interesting to see who the Vikings target in terms of other quarterbacks. The Browns will want a lot for Josh McCown, but Mark Sanchez will likely be released by the Broncos and the Jets might be cutting Bryce Petty.

Will Romo injury affect Ezekiel Elliott’s fantasy football production?

Tony Romo is injured again, and Dallas fans have to feel sick. Some are hyping Dak Prescott as an interesting replacement, but I’m not buying that hype.

Meanwhile, Ezekiel Elliott looked amazing in the preseason game against Seattle, including a punishing play when he ran over Kam Chancellor. Elliott flashed all the skills he showed at Ohio State where he led the Buckeyes to a National Championship, and he naturally has fantasy football fans drooling.

But you have to wonder how much the Romo injury will affect his production. He has an amazing line in front of him, but defenses will be stacking the box and daring Prescott to beat them with his arm. This will be interesting to watch.
