Nike’s new Tiger Woods ad is a little creepy

Nike’s new Tiger Woods ad has hit the web and I for one am a little creeped out by it.

In case you couldn’t tell, the voice in the ad is that of Tiger’s late father, Earl Woods. The voice over was obviously taped from a previous conversation and while I applaud the creativity of it, I no less think it’s a little weird that Tiger is getting questioned about his sex scandal from his late father from beyond the grave in a Nike commercial. But maybe that’s just me.

That said, Nike was smart to ride out Tiger’s sex scandal and stick by its cash cow. Our society has a short attention span so once he gets back onto the links (which is this weekend at the 2010 Masters, by the way) and starts racking up wins again, people are going to move on. They may not forget, but they’ll set their sights on another scandal in no time.

Seven burning questions heading into the NBA Playoffs

There is always a lot riding on the playoffs, but this year there is even more drama surrounding the NBA postseason. Here are seven big questions that will be answered over the next few months.

1. Will the Cavs win the title?
2. Will that keep LeBron in town?

These two questions are joined at the hip. There are some who believe that a Cavs title ensures that LeBron will re-sign, while others believe that if he brings a title to Cleveland, it gives him an out. The general consensus seems to be that if the Cavs fail to make the Finals again, it will increase the chances that LeBron signs elsewhere this summer. There’s no denying that LeBron seems to be a loyal guy, but will that loyalty outweigh the prospect of playing with Chris Bosh in New York, or join a talented Bulls team in Chicago? Only he knows. But I have a hard time seeing LeBron returning to Cleveland if the Cavs don’t make the Finals again.

3. Can the Lakers get it together?
The Lakers haven’t exactly instilled their fans with a sense of confidence heading into the postseason. They lost three straight games in early March, then rattled off seven straight wins, and have since lost four of their last six. Andrew Bynum still isn’t playing and Ron Artest isn’t exactly fitting into the Lakers’ triangle offense. Chemistry has never been this team’s strength — they are by far the most talented team in the West, which is why they won the title last year. But can that talent offset this team’s disjointedness? Unfortunately for the Lakers, they aren’t going to draw a cupcake in the first round; the Spurs, Blazers and Thunder are all capable of giving the Lakers all they can handle.

Who is William “Worldwide Wes” Wesley?

The now infamous, behind-the-scenes NBA power broker was reportedly the one who first introduced LeBron James to Michael Jordan (resulting in LeBron signing with Nike). He has friends all over the sports and entertainment industry and has recently agreed to join CAA to become an agent.

So who is Worldwide Wes? Here is all the info I could find. If you have any other good sources, put the link(s) in the comment section and I’ll add it to the list.

Tiki Barber dumps pregnant wife for 23-year-old former NBC intern

If Tiger Woods wanted to write a book about how guys aren’t supposed to treat their wives, he has a co-author in Tiki Barber.

The New York Post reported yesterday that Barber dumped his 8-months-pregnant wife for a hot 23-year-old woman named Traci Lynn Johnson, who is a former intern for NBC. Barber’s wife Ginny, who is a full-time mom to the couple’s two sons, is currently pregnant with twins.

If that doesn’t make Barber a finalist in biggest douche of the year, then maybe these details from the Post about his affair will:

“On her 21st birthday, he sent her 21 dozen roses to her dorm. He also gave her a diamond and sapphire bracelet,” the source said. “At this point, she had a boyfriend, and told him that she and Tiki were ‘just friends,’ but nobody bought it.

“He gave her and her friends [Giants] jerseys for them to dress up in on Halloween . . . He would shower her with designer handbags and expensive clothes.”
The source said “he came to the school, and she introduced him to her friends.

“At first, we thought he was a nice, sweet guy. Really warm and friendly.

“But once we realized what was going on, we were disgusted. We never expected him to be so disrespectful to his wife.

“One night, he sneaked into her dorm and stayed over the night,” the source said. “The next day, Traci didn’t want to let him out of her room to use the bathroom because she was worried someone would see him and catch them.

Granted, the article uses anonymous sources and did cite someone close to Barber that denied these claims. But if Barber is classy enough to leave his pregnant wife for a 23-year-old woman, then none of the above claims seem far-fetched. Plus, why would an anonymous source make up a story about Barber spending the night at Johnson’s dorm? What’s in it for them?

People break up – it happens. But this situation seems ultra-shady and Barber looks like a hypocrite given how critical he has been in the past of his own father for abandoning him, his twin brother Ronde and his mother when he was younger.
