      Breaking News: Larry Johnson suspended one game…

      …and it isn’t for stiff-arming that woman in the nightclub. This is a team suspension.

      The Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday suspended running back Larry Johnson one game for violating a team rule.

      Chiefs coach Herm Edwards refused to disclose what rule the two-time Pro Bowler broke. Edwards did say the violation had nothing to do with the charge of simple assault filed against Johnson earlier this week.

      KansasCity.com says that Kolby Smith, not Jamaal Charles, will get the start, but Charles will no doubt see increased action.

      Neither guy is a good play against a great Tennessee defense, but if you have room you could stash one or both away in case LJ sees further punishment from the league for the assault.

      Chiefs’ president Carl Peterson is unreasonable

      Tony Gonzalez is in the twilight of his career but he is still one of the top three or four pass-catching tight ends in the game. The Chiefs are surely in the midst (or at the beginning?) of a rebuilding effort, so why would they hold onto Gonzo when there was a third round pick on the table? The Chiefs’ president, Carl Peterson, apparently was holding out for a second round pick. The Packers, Eagles, Giants and Bills all showed interest, but that offer never came, so Gonzalez is still a Chief.

      Barring a few slight differences, this scenario is pretty similar to the Brett Favre situation this summer. Both players are All-Pro caliber and both are going to probably play one or two more seasons. The Packers traded Favre for a conditional fourth round pick that will turn into a third round pick if Favre plays at least 50% of the Jets’ snaps. It could turn into a second round pick if Favre plays 70% of his team’s snaps and the Jets make the playoffs.

      So the market value for an aging, still productive Pro-Bowler is a second or a third round pick. It’s fine to hold out for a second rounder, but if your team is rebuilding and no one is willing to offer that up, take the third round pick! What good does it do you to have a grumpy Tony Gonzalez on your roster?

      Not only that, but it’s a slap in the face of Gonzalez. Peterson deems that extra round more important than allowing the face of your franchise to go somewhere else and have a chance at a title. Everyone in Kansas City realizes that they aren’t going to be making a Super Bowl run in the next two years, so why not let Gonzo have a shot elsewhere?

      Tony Gonzalez ‘shocked’ about Chiefs not trading him

      Tony GonzalezThe trade deadline in the NFL came and went Tuesday and at lest one Kansas City Chief hoping to get a ride out of town appears to be staying put. Tight end Tony Gonzalez was not dealt by the team and will remain a Chief.

      “I’m shocked,” he said in an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com. “It didn’t make sense not to do this deal. It’s winding down for me and this team is rebuilding. If they said from the get-go, ‘No, we’re not going to trade you,’ that would’ve been better than how this whole thing unfolded. But that’s not what happened.

      “Last night I talked to Carl (Peterson, Chiefs President and GM) and I point-blank asked him what it would take to get it done. I wanted to know if it could happen with a fourth (-round pick). He started talking about a second and a fifth like the Shockey deal. Nobody is going to trade a second for a 32-year-old tight end. All along Carl said he would do something that works for both parties. Then he talked about how he traded a third for Willie Roaf, and he made it pretty clear to me that’s what was going to get it done. That was certainly fair.

      “But you know what? I can’t cry about it. If anything, this has motivated me even more. I’m a Chief, will be happy to be a Chief and will bust my butt for the Chiefs. I was never not happy being a Chief. I just wanted the chance to spend my last couple of years winning a title, not rebuilding. But I’m here to help rebuild, I’ll work with all our young guys and get after it like I always have.”

      I feel for Gonzalez because he’s given everything to that franchise over the years. He’s worked his ass off to become a great player and all the guy wants to do is win. He sees his career winding down and instead of winning playoff games – he’s just hoping to win games, period. The Chiefs are a mess and it’s sad that a great player and person like Gonzo has to go down with the sinking ship. But hey, at least he’s getting paid though, right?

      Larry Johnson faces simple-assault charges

      According to The Kansas City Star, Chiefs’ running back Larry Johnson faces simple-assault charges stemming from an incident that occurred in February of this year.

      Larry JohnsonJohnson faces a December date in Kansas City Municipal Court on a charge of simple assault. The municipal violation, filed early last month, stemmed from an incident on Feb. 24, 2008, in which a 26-year-old woman accused Johnson, 28, of using his open hand to push the left side of her head, according to court and police documents obtained by The Kansas City Star.

      A police report supporting the charge alleged that the woman and a friend were walking through the club when Johnson moved through the crowd toward them and pushed the woman, saying, “… don’t touch me.”

      If convicted, Johnson could be sentenced to up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.

      Johnson emerged from his two prior legal incidents without convictions. In 2003, he was accused of aggravated assault and misdemeanor domestic battery for allegedly brandishing a gun during an argument with a former girlfriend.

      Those charges were dropped the following year after he agreed to enter a domestic-violence diversion program.

      In 2005, a woman accused Johnson of pulling her to the exit of a nightspot on the Country Club Plaza and pushing her to the floor after an argument.

      That woman later changed her story and insisted that she did not want to press charges against Johnson. Prosecutors dropped the assault charge after she missed three court hearings.

      Option A: Considering his track record, the woman in this most recent assault altercation is probably telling the truth when she says Johnson pushed her.

      Option B: This is just another person trying to get a quick payday from an athlete.

      Option C: I don’t know what to believe and quite frankly I don’t care. All I know is that I’ve got a fantasy game to win this Sunday and that goofy Larry Johnson better be in my lineup.

      NFL Week 5 Quick Recaps: Ocho Cinco fails to kiss Dallas star

      Chad Johnson– Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson said earlier this week that he would kiss the Dallas star if/when he scores a touchdown against the Cowboys on Sunday. But Dallas held him to only 43 yards on three catches in their 31-22 win over the Bengals, so the only kiss he got to plant was on head coach Marvin Lewis’s face. You know that kid at a birthday party who does a couple of funny things, gets people’s attention, but then eventually becomes annoying? That’s where I’m at right now with Ocho Cinco.

      – After getting destroyed by the Jets last Sunday, the Cardinals had one hell of a bounce back this week, beating the previously undefeated Bills 41-17. But ‘Zona has got to do something about its secondary. They gave up 56 points and allowed Brett Favre to throw six touchdown passes last week, and then proceeded to allow J.P. Losman to complete 15 of 21 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown today. That’s brutal. Losman hasn’t played in over a year and even when he did he was downright atrocious in most of his games. When J.P. Losman shreds you through the air, something’s up.

      – Seven carries, two yards. That’s what Carolina held Chiefs’ RB Larry Johnson to in its 34-0 win Sunday. This coming just one week after LJ rushed for nearly 200 yards against Denver. Rightfully so, everyone talks about the Vikings’ run defense being so good, but take a look at what the Panthers have done against some of the best running backs the past couple of weeks: LaDainian Tomlinson – 97 yards. Adrian Peterson – 77 yards. Michael Turner – 56 yards. Larry Johnson – 2 yards. Wow.

      Jay Cutler– Out of their three victories this season, the Broncos can be most proud of their 16-13 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. They beat a quality opponent (unlike their Week 1 win over the Raiders), they didn’t need a controversial call to go in their favor (unlike their Week 2 win over the Chargers) and for the first time all year, they didn’t surrender 30-plus points defensively.

      – So…who’s the real J.T. O’Sullivan? The one that threw for over 300 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in a win over Seattle or the one that played Sunday and threw three picks against New England? (Although in O’Sullivan’s defense, he did throw three touchdowns in the Niners’ 30-21 loss to the Pats, too.)

      – Did Laurence Maroney kick Bill Belichick’s cat one time at a team barbecue or something one time? For the life of me I can’t figure out why Sammy Morris continues to get more carries than Maroney.

      – Gutsy, gutsy performance by Big Ben on Sunday night. The Jags couldn’t get any pressure on him early on, but when they started to get to him in second half, he hung in tough and delivered a huge win the Steelers. Just when you think Pittsburgh is going to crash with so many injuries in the backfield and along the offensive line, they step up and play a complete game like they did in Week 5. The final score wasn’t a good indicator of how much the Steelers actually dominated the Jaguars.
