2010 College Football Week 1 Top 25 Primer Posted by Staff (09/04/2010 @ 10:30 am) Here’s a quick run down of the top 25 action in college football for Week 1. (Dear sweet Heaven…football is back.) San Jose State at. No. 1 Alabama, 7:00PM ET After winning the national championship last season, Alabama looks to defend without Heisman running back Mark Ingram for their opener. They shouldn’t have any problems with a Spartans team that is 0-8 against the spread in their last eight road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five games on grass. The Tide, meanwhile, are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games in September. Odds: Alabama –37.5 (51.5) No. 5 Boise State vs. No. 6 Virginia Tech, 8:00PM ET (Monday) The highlight of the Week 1 schedule won’t be played until Monday night, but it’s shaping up to be an incredible bout. The Broncos are 5-0 ATS in their last five games in September, while VA Tech is 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall. The over is also 5-0 in the Broncos last five games on fieldturf and 4-1 in the Hokies last five games at a neutral site. Odds: Boise State –1.5 (51) Miami (OH) at. No. 4 Florida, 12:00PM ET The Tim Tebow-less era starts in Gainesville this afternoon when the Gators host MAC opponent Miami of Ohio. The Redhawks are 0-5 against the spread in their last five games in September, while Florida is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. Odds: Florida –38 (54.5) No. 5 Texas at. Rice, 3:30PM ET Out is Colt McCoy and in is talented youngster Garrett Gilbert. The Longhorns are 4-0 against the spread in their last four meetings with Rice and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. Conference USA. The Owls are just 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against the Big 12. Odds: Texas –31 (56) Read the rest of this entry » 2009 College Football Odds: Championship Weekend Posted by Anthony Stalter (12/02/2009 @ 5:54 pm) Thursday, December 3 No. 16 Oregon State at No. 7 Oregon, 9:00PM ET There’s never been as much at stake in the annual Civil War game between Oregon State and Oregon, with the winner booking a trip to the Rose Bowl. The Beavers blew an opportunity to head to Pasadena last season when they were blown out by Oregon at home. The Beavers haven’t been to the Rose Bowl since 1964, while Oregon hasn’t made the trip to Pasadena since 1994. Odds: Oregon –9.5 Saturday, December 5 No. 1 Florida vs. No. 2 Alabama, 4:00PM ET No game has as much at stake than this Saturday’s SEC title game in Atlanta. The winner will have the opportunity to play in the BCS title game, while the loser has to pray that Texas is beaten by Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship Game and that voters favor them over unbeaten TCU or Cincinnati. Can Tim Tebow lead the Gators to another victory over ‘Bama this season or will Mark Ingram and the Crimson Tide defense avenge last year’s loss to Florida? Odds: Florida -6 No. 3 Texas vs. No. 22 Nebraska It’s pretty simple for Colt McCoy and the Longhorns: Either win and book a trip to the national title game or lose and watch their opportunity to become champions fly out the window. The Big 12 North hasn’t beaten the Big 12 South in the title game since 2003 when Kansas State beat Oklahoma. The last time these two teams met, Texas came away with a 28-25 victory in 2007. Can the Cornhuskers snap the South’s reign over the North? Odds: Texas –13.5 No. 5 Cincinnati at No. 15 Pittsburgh, 12:00PM ET West Virginia’s win over the Panthers last Friday took a lot of the intrigue out of this matchup, but with the Big East championship on the line, both teams still have plenty to play for. A BCS berth is also on the line and speculation continues to grow that Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly is headed for South Bend. Can the Bearcats overcome this one final road challenge and head to a BCS bowl? Or will PITT ruin Cincinnati’s perfect season? Odds: Cincinnati -2 Read the rest of this entry » 2009 Week 13 College Football Point Spreads Posted by Anthony Stalter (11/25/2009 @ 11:17 am) It’s rivalry week! No. 3 Texas at Texas A&M, 8:00PM ET, Thursday Texas A&M have beaten Colt McCoy two of the last three seasons and will look to spoil Texas’s shot at a national title when the teams meet on Thanksgiving. The only problem is that the Aggies have the 110th ranked pass defense in the country and McCoy could torch them repeatedly. With so much on the line, don’t count on Texas overlooking their in-state rivals on Thursday. Odds: Texas –21. No. 2 Alabama at Auburn, 2:30PM ET, Friday Auburn will be looking to ruin Alabama’s national title hopes by knocking off the Crimson Tide in the teams’ annual Iron Bowl meeting. Auburn hopes its spread offense and 11th best running game will be successful against ‘Bama’s top ranked defense. Odds: Alabama –10. Nevada at Boise State, 10:00PM ET, Friday Even there’s any team that could ruin Boise State’s bid for a national title it’s Nevada, who has only lost by a combined nine points to the Broncos the past two years. The Wolf Pack have won eight in a row and could snag a share of the WAC title with a win on Boise’s blue turf this Friday. How will Boise’s defense stack up to the nation’s top ranked rushing attack? Odds: Boise State –14. Florida State at No. 1 Florida, 3:30PM Saturday Tim Tebow will be playing his final home game of his collegiate career on Saturday when the Gators host Bobby Bowden’s Seminoles. Florida has won 21 straight games, but it needs two more victories to secure a spot in the national title game. The Gators have won the past five meetings vs. the Seminoles and lead the all-time series 32-19-2. Odds: Florida –24.5. While Auburn and Tulane aren’t powerhouse opponents, the Tigers combined to score 73 points in those games and showed an offensive pulse. But can they do the same against a worthy defensive opponent like Alabama? The Tigers only mustered three points against the Gators and will certainly have their hands full trying to move the ball against a Tide defense that ranks No. 4 in the nation and should be well rested coming off a bye. Odds: Alabama –7.5. No. 8 Oregon at Stanford, Saturday, 3:30PM ET Oregon is one of the hottest teams in the nation right now, but will they suffer a letdown after beating No. 5 USC last week? Stanford has been solid at home this year, beating previously ranked Washington 34-14, UCLA 24-16 and a decent Arizona State team 33-14. They had defensive troubles in road losses to Oregon State and Arizona this season (and also lost to a pesky Wake Forest team earlier in the year), but otherwise the Cardinal has been competitive. The Ducks’ offensive attack is firing on all cylinders right now, but the game this week in Stanford is far from a gimmie. Odds: Oregon -6. No. 16 Ohio State at No. 11 Penn State, Saturday, 3:30PM ET If either of these teams wants to keep Iowa in their sites in the Big Ten, a win is a must this Saturday in University Park. Since his brutal display in Purdue three weeks ago, Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor has looked better the past two weeks. But Minnesota and New Mexico State don’t have the kind of defensive prowess that Penn State has and Pryor could be in for a long day on Saturday. The Lions have been outstanding since their loss to Iowa in late September, rattling off five straight wins while beating opponents by a 176-43 margin. The Buckeyes’ defense should be up for the challenge, but will Pryor? Odds: Penn State –4. Along with a complete list of odds, here are a couple previews on this week’s marquee matchups in college football. Georgia vs. No. 1 Florida, 3:30PM ET The event formerly known as “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party,” (back before the stiffs zapped all the fun out of it) has lost some luster due to Georgia’s inconsistent play this season. But this is certainly a game to keep an eye on because it has major SEC Championship ramifications for a Florida team that has lacked offensive explosion all season. The Gators’ defense has been outstanding, but Tim Tebow and the offense continue to struggle and some pundits are just waiting for Urban Meyer’s team to slip up. Will the Bulldogs pull off an upset this Saturday in Jacksonville? Odds: Florida –15.5. No. 3 Texas at No. 14 Oklahoma State, 8:00PM ET If the Longhorns want to turn voters’ heads, then they need a great showing this weekend in Stillwater. Since their loss to Houston, Oklahoma State has rattled off five straight in impressive fashion. Both teams are looking at this contest as a huge statement game and the winner could help themselves in the polls. Alabama is idle this week, so Colt McCoy and Texas might be able to leapfrog the Crimson Tide with an impressive road victory. Odds: Texas –9.5. No. 5 USC at No. 10 Oregon, 8:00PM ET While Arizona and Stanford might have a say in things later on, the Pac-10 is essentially on the line this Saturday in Eugene. Since giving an embarrassing effort in a loss to Boise State in the opener, the Ducks have rattled off six straight and are playing with loads of confidence. USC, on the other hand, has won four straight but Notre Dame nearly came back to tie the game in the fourth two weeks ago and Oregon State proved to be a tougher challenge then the Trojans expected. USC’s defense looked vulnerable last week, surrendering nearly 500 yards of total offense and 36 points. Can Oregon take advantage of that at home and stay undefeated in the Pac-10? Odds: USC –3.5.
