Herschel Walker now 2-0 in his MMA career

Former NFL star Herschel Walker advanced to 2-0 in his MMA career writes Jeff Cain of HeavyMMA.com.

Former NFL star and Olympian Herschel Walker advanced his professional mixed martial arts to 2-0 with a technical knockout win over Scott Carson at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg” in San Jose on Saturday.
The 48-year old Walker took a high kick to the head to in the opening seconds, but moved forward landing a looping left that knocked Carson to the canvas.
On the ground, Walker maintained dominant position landing several punches and knees to the head and body, one knocking Carson’s mouthpiece bouncing across the cage.
As Carson tried to use the fence to get to his feet, Walker dropped him with another punch and followed with a couple of more forcing the referee to stop the fight.
“I took a kick where I think I was getting a little bit too excited,” said Walker about the high kick landed by Carson early in the fight. “And when you’re in an MMA fight, you shouldn’t get kicked like that.”
“One thing that Javier (Mendez) told me was build offense. I’ve got to be on the offense,” said Walker. “I gotta control what I’m doing in the cage.”
Walker’s not going to try to make another run in the NFL, but instead looks to improve and compete in MMA.
“MMA is my love,” he said following the fight. “I love MMA.”

And as Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett pointed out to ESPN’s Matt Mosley, Roethlisberger is fortunate to be where he is right now.

After Nick Barnett took a swipe at Aaron Rodgers via Twitter this weekend, the two have apparently kissed and made up. Kumbaya and a bonfire are set for later this week.

Celtics beat Lakers, 109-96

The Celtics shot 60.3% from the field and 52.9% from three-point range en route to a 13-point win over the Lakers at Staples Center. It was a very poor showing by the Laker defense, which is ranked 8th in the league in defensive efficiency and 4th in opponent FG%.

Boston’s “Big Four” showed up, and in a big way. Paul Pierce (32 points), Ray Allen (21), Kevin Garnett (18) and Rajon Rondo (10) combined to shoot 33-for-51 (64.7%) from the field. They’re going to be awfully tough to beat when they are scoring this easily.

Kobe hit 16-of-29 shots for 41 points but had ZERO assists. That pretty much tells the story, doesn’t it?

Maurkice Pouncey ruled out for Super Bowl

After speaking to a league source, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday NFL Countdown that Steelers’ center Maurkice Pouncey will not play against the Packers in Super Bowl XLV.

Pouncey injured his ankle in the AFC title game against the Jets and although he was optimistic that he would be able to play Super Bowl Sunday, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be healthy enough to suit up.

That means second-year center Doug Legursky will start in Pouncey’s place. Legursky has started just four games in his career and while he played well against the Jets last week, he’ll have his hands full with Packers’ nose tackle B.J. Raji, who has had a great postseason.

As I wrote earlier this week, even if Pouncey starts who knows how effective he’ll be. Colts’ defensive end Dwight Freeney dealt with an ankle injury prior to last year’s Super Bowl and played well in the first half. But due to the long layoff at halftime, his ankle stiffened up and he could barely play in the final two quarters. I’m not a doctor, but it’s not a stretch to think that the same thing could happen to Pouncey if he tried to play on Sunday.
