Line of the Night (12/1): Dwyane Wade

The Miami Heat came into last night’s game at the Rose Garden as losers of six of their last nine games, but Dwyane Wade led the way in a semi-surprising 107-100 win over the Trail Blazers. Even though Michael Beasley actually led the team in scoring (27), the offense ran through Wade, who posted 22 points, 12 assists and five rebounds in the win.

The Blazers were playing without LaMarcus Aldridge, so the loss is somewhat understandable. But this is the kind of game that Portland needs to win if they are to be taken seriously as contenders in the West.

Woods: “I have let my family down.”

On Wednesday, Tiger Woods published a statement on his website addressing the allegations surrounding his personal life.

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it’s difficult.

I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.

The Florida Highway Patrol charged Tiger with careless driving and issued him a traffic citation. The fine is $164 and four points on his driving license.

On top of The National Enquirer report that he had an affair with nightclub manger Rachel Uchitel, two more females have allegedly been linked to Tiger off the course.

From Contributor Bulletin.com:

Five days in the making after Tiger Woods was in a car accident. It dominated the internet searches and after that his alleged mistress Rachel Uchitel whose name is the main searches in the search engines for several days. Then came out Joanna Jagoda, Woods former girlfriend.

The new girl is Jaimee Grubbs who claims that she has 31 months relationship with Tiger Woods. She even has the evidence to prove it through text messages and voice messages. What will be the [sic] next? Will it be Tiger Woods divorce with his wife which will be inevitable because of him who has many mistresses?

It’s important to keep in mind that these are just rumors and it wouldn’t be entirely shocking to find out that these girls just want their 15 minutes of fame any way they can get it. That said, I doubt Tiger will release any more statements outside of the one above and why should he? It’s a private matter that should be just that: Private.

Lane Kiffin calls out Urban Meyer . . . . again

Lane Kiffin just loves jabbing Urban Meyer.

Tennessee coach didn’t mind distinguishing between the two coaches, though he hesitated to predict a winner.

“It’s kind of hard to call,” Kiffin said Tuesday in an interview on WNML-AM in Knoxville. “There’s a bunch of great players on both teams. Florida has so much speed. I think you’ll see Alabama will outscheme Florida, and Florida has given up 28 sacks this year when a bunch of guys come free. But the problem is Superman (quarterback Tim Tebow) is back there. It comes down to can you tackle him.

“It will be a real interesting matchup. Florida has better players, and Alabama has better coaches, so we’ll see.”

The message her is clear. Kiffin thinks Urban Meyer is lucky to have Tim Tebow, and that without Tebow Meye and Florida football will come back down to Earth. You know he’s just waiting for the rematch where he gets to play Florida without Tim Tebow. Next year should be fun.

Reggie Bush unlikely to be a Saint in 2010?

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, the Saints won’t bring back Reggie Bush in 2010.

Speaking of running backs, don’t expect New Orleans running back Reggie Bush, who is due to count for approximately $8 million against the cap next season, to stay with the team. One Saints insider said general manager Mickey Loomis isn’t interested in carrying Bush’s salary, even if there is an uncapped season. Bush’s cap number and secondary importance to the team could create conflict in a locker room where several players, such as wide receiver Marques Colston, are expected to cash in soon.

This isn’t a complete shock given that Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell have proven they can excel in Sean Payton’s offense. Plus at $8 million, Bush would be rather expensive for a back that can’t run between the tackles.

What’s interesting is that some team will no doubt overpay for his services because he’s a potential highlight reel. Nobody denies that he’s a great athlete, but he’s going to be overvalued if the Saints do decide to part ways with him after the season.

Defensive Team By Waiver Wire: Week 13

The strategy behind DTBWW is that each week, you pick up a defensethat is playing against a bad offense (preferably at home). And each week, you get pretty good numbers out of your DT position. To see how this approach performed last season, click here.

Last week, I recommended three DTBWW picks. Let’s see how they fared…

#1 Cowboys: 7 PA (6) + 3 SK + 1 FR = 10 fantasy points
#2 Seahawks: 17 PA (2) + 4 SK + 2 INT + 1 INT TD = 14 fp
#3 Dolphins: 31 PA (0) + 6 SK + 1 INT = 7 fp

It was a good week for DTBWW, with an average score of 10.3 points. The Dolphins had the Bills under control for much of the game, but gave up 17 points late. The Cowboys and Seahawks both played well.

On the season, my #1 pick is averaging 9.5 points, my #2 pick is averaging 10.9 points and my #3 pick is averaging 6.3 points. My #2 is particularly hot, averaging 11.7 points over the last nine weeks. On the whole, DTBWW is averaging 8.9 fantasy points per game, which is about the same as the #2 DT (Minnesota).

Let’s take a look at this week’s picks. Keep in mind that to be eligible for DTBWW, a defense must be available in at least 40% of ESPN fantasy leagues.

Pick #1: San Diego Chargers (@ CLE)
The Chargers have been hot of late and they have a matchup with one of the league’s worst offenses. Even though this one is on the road, it could get pretty ugly pretty quickly.

Pick #2: New York Jets (@ BUF)
The Jets are playing better defense the last couple of weeks and even though the Buffalo offense is a little better with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, the Bills still can’t run the ball very well, and the Jets have the #2 pass defense in the league.

Pick #3: Chicago Bears (vs. STL)
The Bears defense isn’t good, but with the Rams coming to town, Chicago has a great matchup this week.

Bonus pick: Tampa Bay (@ CAR)
