Let’s file this one under “WTF?” — these guys are teammates and they’re engaging in fisticuffs in the stands.
This clip is making the rounds, but this wasn’t as unusual as the Monday Night ESPN crew made it out to be. The footage shows Eli Manning waiting around for the media to arrive at his post-game presser.
But, per ESPN, this was nothing unusual:
But this wasn’t a slight by the media or a case of reporters ignoring Manning, who didn’t have to wait too long. And it was nothing unusual. Following every game, Manning and other Giants stars such as Justin Tuck conduct their news conferences at the same time as the rest of their teammates are talking in the locker room.
Reporters in the locker room are alerted by the Giants public relations staff multiple times when Manning is heading to the podium. Although the players can walk directly to the podium area from their locker room, reporters have to take a roundabout route.
And Manning typically walks into a near-empty room at the start of his postgame news conferences and patiently waits for reporters.
Ok, so you’re straight — the ESPN Monday Night crew made a big deal out of something that wasn’t a big deal, per ESPN.com. Glad that’s settled.
While he certainly didn’t sound believable as the words came tumbling out of his mouth, ESPN’s Trent Dilfer said the Falcons can be beaten at home. He also went as far as to predict that the Saints will not only beat them in Atlanta next Monday night, but they’ll also beat them in the playoffs, beat them in 2011 if there isn’t a strike and beat them for the next 10 years to come.
Oh, and Dilfer also took a dump on the Falcons rug by comparing them to the 2003 Chiefs, who went 13-3 only to lose their first playoff game.

It seems like Dilfer was just trying to stir the pot but he wouldn’t have to look very hard to find people who agree with him. Nobody is talking about the Falcons whether it’s because of their defense, other teams (i.e. the Patriots and Eagles) stealing their spotlight or whatever. And there are probably plenty of people who feel that the Saints will walk into the Georgia Dome next Monday and burn the place down.
But while I have my own reservations about the Falcons, there’s no denying that this is a solid football team. They don’t beat themselves with turnovers or penalties, they can run the ball, they have a quarterback who makes smart decisions in the clutch and their defense, while still a bit of a mystery, is fast and aggressive. (They also have a small but highly athletic cornerback in Brent Grimes that is ready to burst onto the national scene.)
Can they be beaten at home? Sure they can. But nobody outside of the ’08 Broncos has when Matt Ryan starts. So until that happens, the Dilfer’s of the world will just have to take solace in their projections.
My beloved Bucks, coming off of a surprising win in Dallas to snap the Mavs’ 12-game winning streak, gave the Spurs one hell of a run before Manu Ginobili hit this game winner at the buzzer.
The Bucks had a chance to take the lead, but failed to get a good look at the hoop. It’s a situation where Brandon Jennings has to create his own shot, but he ended up picking up his dribble and giving the ball to Luc Mbah a Moute, who tried to draw the foul on an airborne player.
Ginobili had 26 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win. Chris Douglas-Roberts (21 points) and Drew Gooden (20 points) led the Bucks in scoring, but it was Andrew Bogut (15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and SEVEN BLOCKS) who was the player of the game for Milwaukee. I sure hope he gets a long, hard look for the All-Star team, but Al Horford, Shaquille O’Neal, Roy Hibbert and Brook Lopez might have something to say about that. None of those players are the defensive presence that Bogut is, however.
