Does anyone know what a foul is in the NBA these days?

Lebron James

Lebron James had a rough night last night as the Golden State Warriors took a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. He settled for too many three-point shots (going 1-5) and seemed way too anxious to pass the ball when he drove to the hoop. His dribbling skills seem to have disappeared and he’s become a turnover machine. As a result, he shied away from trying to finish at the rim all night.

But can you blame him? Lebron James was basically mugged by the Warriors defense every time he got into the paint. Of course, this has happened to pretty much every player on both teams throughout this series. The NBA seems to have decided that most fouls in the paint won’t be called unless it’s a flagrant slap, push or hold.

The result last night was a game that didn’t seem to resemble basketball at times, and also risked a physical confrontation as players from both teams pushed the envelope on the physical nature of the game.

This bizarre turn of events also plays into the hands of the Warriors. The Cavs need to be effective in the paint in order to run their offense, while the Warriors thrive with long jumpers that then open up the paint on passes off of aggressive perimeter defense from the opposing team.

Can Cavs stop the Warriors?

Lebron James 2

This series is a huge opportunity for Lebron James. Many are contemplating what will be said of him if he goes 2-5 in the NBA Finals, but he will truly enhance his legendary career if he can bring a championship to the City of Cleveland.

The oddsmakers have the Warriors as the favorites, but most experts expect a close series.

Frankly, if the Cavs play as well as they did in the Toronto series, dominating the paint and nailing three-pointers, then they should be able to topple the Warriors, who have not been playing their best basketball.

This could and should be an epic series . . .

Thunder blow golden opportunity

The sleeping giant has awakened.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were poised to pull of an epic upset as they sat on a 3-1 lead on the 73-win Golden State Warriors. That now seems like a long time ago.

The Thunder had an incredible opportunity to close out the series last night as they nursed a lead in the fourth quarter, but Klay Thompson went wild with 11 three-pointers, which seemed to inspire Steph Curry to return to MVP form as well.

Thunder take Game 1 from the Warriors

Bayless1

Not everyone was as wrong as Skip Bayless on this series. I replied right away to his silly tweet as it was clear after the San Antonio series that Oklahoma City was a team to be reckoned with.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook now have a team around them with some size, so OKC has length along with being perhaps the most athletic team in the NBA. Meanwhile, Steph Curry was awfully quiet for an MVP.

Let’s see what happens next. This should be a great series!

Kyrie Irving gives Cavs hope

With all the drama this season, many have assumed that the Cleveland Cavaliers will probably come up short in their quest for the first-ever NBA championship for the franchise this year, barring a monster performance from Lebron and some lucky breaks.

Well, that still may be true, but the sudden resurgence of Kyrie Irving plus the excellent play by Kevin Love may be changing that assessment.
