Houston passing on Reggie Bush?

ESPN is reporting that the Houston Texans will pass on Reggie Bush and that they have agreed to a contract with Mario Williams. Naturally, this will shake things up for everyone’s draft board in the top 5.

I never thought Bush deserved to be the top pick in the draft. It will be interesting to see why Houston passed on him. Was it an issue of money, or did they finally determine that Bush isn’t an every down player?

Isiah Thomas needs to go

Can anyone defend the mess Zeke has created in New York? Mike Lupica sums up the situation in one sentence:

Every time Thomas makes another trade he adds more years to this misery.

I hate the Knicks so I’m not losing sleep over this, but Knick fans have to be ready to revolt.

Bill Simmons argues for Kobe Bryant to win MVP

I think LeBron James should win it, but Bill Simmons makes a case for Kobe (he has LeBron at #2). Along the way he covers all the possible candidates and has some fun with the question:

In a weird way, Kobe ended up getting what he always wanted: The Lakers completely revolve around him. He gets to shoot 25-30 times per game. He gets to take every big shot at crunch-time. He gets all the credit. Nobody else on the team dares to challenge him. And even better, because he lucked out with the only possible coach who could make this cockamamie situation work, his supporting cast kills itself to make him look good.

Basically, he’s Elvis and everyone else is Joe Esposito. And it’s working! That’s the crazy thing.

He might be Elvis, but LeBron is the King! I’m sticking with King James.

First round rumors

Over at ESPN.com’s Insider (subscription required), Mel Kiper has some thoughts on the early picks:

It looks like the Houston Texans will take USC running back Reggie Bush with the No. 1 overall pick. The hottest spot in the draft to make a trade will be with the New Orleans Saints and the second pick. The only team the Saints could make a trade with — and still get defensive end Mario Williams — is the New York Jets. New York could trade up from the fourth overall pick and take USC QB Matt Leinart. Tennessee, which has the third pick, would then take Texas QB Vince Young. From what I have been told, the Titans have a very high opinion of Young.

This should be a fun draft. Vince Young is the wild card. It will be very interesting to see who takes a chance on him.
