      MLB All-Star rosters announced

      The MLB All-Star rosters have been released and the St. Louis faithful will get to see two Cardinals in the lineup as Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina will both start for the National League.

      Here are the starters for each league:

      As usual, the All-Star voting was a popularity contest. How Josh Hamilton is a starter despite missing most of the first half is beyond me.

      McNair’s death being called murder-suicide

      According to a report by the Nashville Tennessean, Steve McNair’s shocking death is being called as an apparent murder-suicide.

      McNair, a hometown hero who did extensive charity work in Nashville, had several gunshot wounds, including one to the head. He was found on the sofa of a Second Avenue condominium that he rented, police said. Sahel Kazemi, 20, was found on the floor near him with a single gunshot wound to her head. A pistol was found near her body.

      Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said investigators were not actively looking for suspects Saturday night but had not ruled out any scenarios. He stopped short of calling the deaths a murder-suicide, but said the police should be able to classify the deaths today after autopsies and forensic work.

      “We expect to make additional conclusions after the autopsy process,” Aaron said

      Though much of the attention was on the Second Avenue crime scene, police also swarmed Kazemi’s apartment at the Cherry Creek complex in Hermitage on Saturday. They questioned neighbors who said they often saw McNair visiting Kazemi. Sometimes, neighbors said, she would arrive home in a limousine in the early morning. They also heard arguments between her and her boyfriend.
      Most recently, she had a new black car she said was a gift from her boyfriend.

      She was arrested in that car, a black 2007 Cadillac Escalade registered to her and McNair, early Thursday at Broadway and Ninth Avenue, just two days before the deaths. She was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take a breath test. She told police she was not drunk, but high.

      This is just an unbelievable story. McNair was one of the good guys in the NFL for a very long time and while I obviously don’t know the entire situation, I struggle to understand why he would be mixed up with a girl like this. She’s 16 years his junior and he’s married with four kids. Why was he with her? Something isn’t adding up here.

      But again, we don’t know all the details so it’s not fair to speculate. We should be honoring his life more than trying to get the details about his fatal end, so that’s what I’ll do.

      Thanks for the memories, Steve. Thanks for the most exciting Super Bowl I’ve ever watched, the professionalism and your consistent gritty, gutsy play.

      Lincecum runs scoreless streak to 23 innings

      Tim Lincecum pitched seven scoreless innings in the Giants’ 9-0 win over the Astros on Saturday. He has now thrown 23 scoreless innings in his last three games and has lowered his ERA to 2.23 while amassing a 9-2 record.

      So much for Lincecum’s arm falling off. After tossing 227 innings last season, many thought that “The Franchise” would suffer a post-Cy Young slump and sift into arm-trouble hell. And when he started the season 0-1 with two no decisions, the I-told-you-so’s were out in full force.

      But Lincecum has been absolutely filthy of late, with Saturday marking his 14th career start in which he’s allowed zero earned runs in seven or more innings. That ties Ron Gudry and Fernando Valenzuela for the fourth-most such starts by a pitcher in his first 75 career games since 1954, with Dwight Gooden leading all players in that category with 23.

      With the Giants playing on the West Coast, Lincecum seemingly doesn’t get the national attention he deserves. But he’s the best young pitcher in the game and if San Fran can continue to play well this season, maybe they’ll make the postseason and his skills can be on full display come mid-October.

      Top 10 Significant UFC Fights

      With UFC 100 a week away on July 11, I decided to look back at what got the UFC to this point. Here is my take on what I believe are the 10 most significant fights in UFC history, helping the company become what it is today.

      1. Stephan Bonner vs. Forrest Griffin – Ultimate Fighter Finale 1: This fight was not only the most memorable fight to watch, but may also be the fight that really pushed the UFC into the next level of mainstream popularity. Following the debut season of The Ultimate Fighter, a show which UFC President Dana White and co-owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta funded out of their own pocket, the finale took place live on Spike TV, which was airing live fights for the first time in the history of cable television. The UFC knew it needed something big to happen to not only keep a cable television deal, but earn future advertisers, and also prolong its reality show for future seasons. Bonner vs. Griffin delivered just that. The two fought to the very end and both were so even, it was impossible to decide a clear winner for most fans. The fight at one point drew 10 million viewers, which was just what the UFC needed. The back-and-forth, non-stopped action gave the UFC an identity to fans that had never seen it before and got the ball rolling that has allowed the UFC to snowball into what it is today.

      Favre close to purchasing condo in Minneapolis?

      According to a report by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Brett Favre is close to purchasing a condo in the Minneapolis area.

      There have been reports that Favre already has a contract in place with the Vikings and both Favre and the Vikings have made it clear in public comments that there is great interest on both sides. And then there is this latest nugget: Favre is in the process of attempting to secure a residence in the Twin Cities.

      We received a tip last night about Favre settling on a condominium in Edina but that doesn’t appear to be a done deal. At least not yet. There were rumors last week that Favre had either bought or rented a house along Bearpath Golf and Country Club in Eden Prairie. (The smart money says he ends up in Edina.)

      But where Favre lives doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that he’s actively looking for a place (or at least someone from the Favre camp is looking), giving a clear indication that he must be encouraged by how his arm is feeling. In the grand scheme of things, this is just the latest piece of evidence that Favre will be playing in Minnesota.

      Who knows, maybe Favre just likes the area? It doesn’t mean that he’s going to play for the Vikings next season. (Read: Sarcasm.)

      It’s only a matter of time before Favre joins the Vikings. It would take hell freezing over for him not to play in purple and white next season and even then I’m pretty sure Favre would still suit up for Minnesota. Of course, he would delay the process by talking about how hell freezing over has made him question his desire to play. But after a two or three weeks he would say that he still had the itch and that hell freezing over won’t stop him from trying to ruin Ted Thompson’s life.
