Pistons agree to terms with T-Mac?

The Associated Press is reporting that Tracy McGrady will sign a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons for the league minimum ($1.3 million).

I thought that the 31-year-old would perhaps sign a two- or three-year deal for $3-$4 million per season, and if he had been willing to accept a role off the bench, he may have been able to strike such a deal. The Bulls were interested, but when he balked at a reserve role, they moved on to Keith Bogans… Keith Bogans. Think about that for a second.

T-Mac is officially in Allen Iverson territory.

Presumably he agreed to sign with the Pistons in a starting role, but what does that mean for Rip Hamilton and/or Tayshaun Prince?

Owner doesn’t think Darrelle Revis will play for the Jets in 2010

Owner Woody Johnson said Monday that he doesn’t believe Darrelle Revis (holdout) will play in 2010.

From the New York Daily News:

Asked whether he believed that a new deal could be reached before the start of the season, Johnson simply said: “The answer is no.”
“My impression is no progress,” the owner said. “(They way) Mike characterized it with me, there’s no movement whatsoever…. Nothing new and different, as they say in marketing.”

Given how much time there is before the regular season starts, this seems like pasturing on the part of Johnson. Either way, it appears as though the Jets are digging in their heels and taking a more hard-line stance with Revis.

E. Spencer Kyte of HeavyMMA.com details the 10 things that we learned from UFC 117.

It Isn’t Over ‘til It’s Over
For four-plus rounds, Chael Sonnen dominated UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Manhandling him at every turn, Sonnen followed through on every pre-fight promise for the first twenty minutes of the fight.
As everyone was settling in to watch the fifth round play out just like the four before it, it happened; Sonnen gave Silva a small opening and the champion took advantage, hooking on a triangle, forcing Sonnen to tap and miss out on the middleweight championship that he looked ready to claim.
Silva was behind on every card, with scores of 40-34, 40-35, and 40-36 heading into the final frame, and finding a finish when he absolutely needed to only serves as further proof that absolutely anything can and does happen in this sport and that it really isn’t over ‘til it’s over.

Emmitt Smith’s HOF speech

Smith got rave reviews for his recent Hall of Fame speech, even though he forgot to thank the University of Florida (which he apologized for on his Twitter page). Anyway, the first part is an intro video and the second part is the first portion of his speech. At the very least sure to check out the end of part two, where Smith thanks his fullback Daryl “Moose” Johnston.
