Every week, I highlight a few players that you should target in waivers. I use the ESPN league data when filtering players, so the only players eligible for discussion here are those that are available on the waiver wire in at least 50% of ESPN’s leagues. I’ll list each player’s percentage-owned after their name so you have an idea of how available they are in leagues around the country. I’ll always try to mention a few players that are available in 90% of leagues for those of you in 12-team leagues or leagues with big rosters. I’ll rank them in the order I’d pick them up in a league with a high-performance, PPR scoring system.
Alex Smith (18.7)
Smith is startable the rest of the way, but he has especially nice matchups in Week 14 (ARI) and Week 16 (DET).
Vince Young (14.9)
Young has the Rams and Dolphins in Week 14 and 15, respectively.
Mark Sanchez (40.4)
Sanchez has nice matchups in Week 14 (TB) and Week 15 (ATL).
Ryan Fitzpatrick (0.8)
The Bills have the Chiefs and Falcons in Weeks 14 and 16.
Matthew Stafford (7.2)
Josh Freeman (2.6)
Jason Campbell (19.5)
Matt Leinart (2.0)
Chad Henne (4.6)
If Jamaal Charles (54.9) is still out there, he’s definitely worth a pickup. The same goes for Justin Forsett (50.2).
Rock Cartwright (21.3)
Turned 18 touches into 64 yards against a good Eagles defense. He’s not going to set the world on fire, but he’s a starter and has a great matchup in Week 14 (OAK).
Chester Taylor (48.7)
AP owners who didn’t already have Taylor on their roster suffered a scare as Peterson was listed as questionable for much of the week.
Correll Buckhalter (45.0)
Buck got 21 touches against the Giants.
Bernard Scott (27.6)
Scott was in and out of Sunday’s game with an injury, so Larry Johnson got a lot of work. Cedric Benson should be back this week, but if he isn’t, LJ and Scott would likely split carries.
Justin Fargas (11.1)
Sammy Morris (34.3)
Chris Chambers (51.6) has been great since joining the Chiefs, and definitely merits a pickup. Antonio Bryant (53.2) is back playing again, so he’s worth a roster spot as well.
Jeremy Maclin (42.5)
Over the last eight weeks, he’s averaging 4.5-62-0.5. Over the course of a full season, that average translates to 72-992-8. Why is he still available in 57% of leagues? He’s a great pickup with DeSean Jackson iffy with a concussion.
Pierre Garcon (35.8)
After a rough patch in Weeks 5 and 7, Garcon is averaging 4.6-67-0.4. The only downside is the possible (unlikely?) return of Anthony Gonzalez.
Donnie Avery (47.8)
Avery is pretty hot right now, averaging 4.0-60-1.0 over the last three weeks. With favorable matchups against CHI, TEN, HOU and ARI, he looks startable for the stretch run.
Austin Collie (36.1)
Jason Avant (1.8)
Numbers don’t lie: 17-276-1 over the last three weeks. He has really benefited with Brian Westbrook out.
Robert Meachem (27.1)
Kenny Britt (8.1)
Over the last three weeks, Britt has posted 13-225-2 and seems to be the favorite target of Vince Young.
Devery Henderson (47.3)
James Jones (1.7)
He has at least three catches in each of the last four games.
Michael Jenkins (5.3)
He has 13 catches for 156 yards over the past two weeks.
Anthony Gonzalez (43.2)
He’ll get back on the field…someday.
Dustin Keller (53.2) would be a nice pickup if available. He’s been better of late.
Kevin Boss (49.2)
Fred Davis (3.9)
Chris Cooley is officially going on IR, so it’s Davis’s job from here on out. He posted 4-43-1 against the Eagles, and has 20 catches over the last five weeks.
Jermichael Finley (18.6)
Finley has 10 catches over the last two weeks and is a big part of the Packer passing attack.
Bo Scaife (6.9)
Scaife is steady but unspectacular. He’s a decent starter in PPR leagues.
Todd Heap (38.6)
Benjamin Watson (33.4)
Tony Scheffler (21.0)
David Thomas (0.4)
Dante Rosario (0.7)
8-102 over the last two weeks. There’s probably going to be a new QB in CAR this week, which could help or hurt Rosario.
