Alex Rodriguez has hip surgery, out until May
2009 hasn’t started real well for A-Rod.
Alex Rodriguez’s troublesome right hip requires immediate surgery, the third baseman’s brother told LasMayores.com, MLB.com’s Spanish-language Web site.
Rodriguez’s brother, Joe Dunand, said that Rodriguez will have the operation performed on Monday in Vail, Colo., by Dr. Marc Philippon. Dunand said it was his understanding that the recovery time for such a surgery is 10 weeks.
The surgery would nix Rodriguez’s hopes of playing for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic and possibly cause him to miss part of the regular season if Dunand is correct and Rodriguez has the procedure done.
Hmm, I guess steroids have no bearing on hip health…

What a convenient time for A-Rod to get injured. He’ll miss the opening weeks of baseball, huh? Right in the wake of his steroid scandal, when fans want to boo him around the country.
Poor A-Rod.
Smart Steinbrenners.
And with the fifth pick in my fantasy draft…I suddenly have no idea who I’m going to take. A-Rod will surely be the highest guy on the board. Damn.
Good call Chris. Could Roids help him play through this ? Recover faster ? Lets get A-Rod some more media coverage please.
I think it’s a blessing…Now the Yankee can go into the new seasons with out this side / freak show…Everybody can just relax and get ready.
That sigh of relief you hear is coming from Georges back yard party…
The Forward this week has a special Jewish holiday Purim section that gives a satire of Rodriquez’s admitted drug use, calling it “admitted Kabbalah use” due to his relationship with Madonna.
In a tearful televised confession, New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez yesterday confirmed long-rumored allegations of performance-enhancing kabbalah use during a live interview with ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons. Citing pressure to stay competitive, Rodriguez acknowledged resorting to the practice of esoteric Jewish mysticism on multiple occasions since being introduced to its mysterious and perplexing power by pop chanteuse and rumored paramour Madonna, a prominent Kabbalangelist.
“I want to apologize to the fans,” said Rodriguez. “I was young and naïve. It was a loosey-goosey time in baseball and I thought the shining light of the Zohar would give me that push I needed, without over-investigating what I was studying, to get me to the next level.”
Rodriguez maintained that he did not know precisely what kabbalistic aids he made use of, explaining that such knowledge belongs exclusively to the realm of “Ein Sof” — the “Sefirah” or “emanation” of God that is without limit and beyond human understanding.

Does anyone see the similarities between this mysterious sudden injury and Giambi’s mysterious tumor in his pituitary gland? Especially the timing of the injury, right after each was outted for steroid use? Let me guess…when A-Rod returns he’ll be about 15-20 lbs. lighter and he’ll attribute that to his work-outs while on the DL…just like Giambi did. More like this is the Yankee’s steroid rehab program at work…conjure up the excuse of an injury that will put him on the DL for a few months, ween him off the juice, then bring him back after a miraculous recovery. A-Hole has been juicing for years…no way he came off the stuff cold turkey, as he wants us to believe.
