Raiders’ Seymour returns shot at Giants’ Pierce
Following the Raiders’ embarrassing 44-7 loss to the Giants in Week 5, New York linebacker Antonio Pierce said that the game felt like a “scrimmage” and that Oakland essentially didn’t give much of an effort.
But when the G-Men were steamrolled by the Saints in Week 6, Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour had a few choice words for Pierce.
“They got what they deserved this week,” Seymour said to the Daily News about the Giants’ 48-27 loss to the Saints. “I’m not sure how many points the Saints scored on them, but if I’m not mistaken, it was about half a hundred points. [Pierce]’s got enough to chew on with that.”
Granted, the Giants are still 5-1 and atop the NFC East, while the Raiders are 2-4 following their impressive victory over the Eagles last Sunday. But it’s kind of ironic that Pierce criticized the Raiders for a lack of effort and then the Giants went out and got their ass handed to them the following Sunday.
Pierce should have spent a little less time taking jabs at the Raiders and a little more time studying film on Drew Brees.

Let me get this straight, Pierce should have spent less time talking last Tuesday, but you have no problem with Seymour talking now?
Did the Saints win somehow change the fact that the Giants put up 44 points on the Raiders, in Oakland, even though Eli Manning played less than a half?
Did it change the fact that Seymour’s own defensive line got 0 sacks on either Manning or Carr, and gave up 220 rushing yards on over 5 YPC?
You’re implying that Pierce somehow didn’t work hard or prepare for the game against the Saints, there’s ample evidence to suggest that the Saints offense is just that good.
If there’s anyone in this situation that has/had no business talking trash, it’s Seymour.

You’re talking my comments about as far as you can take them, snd_dsgnr.
I don’t disagree with what Pierce said, which plays into your argument about how nothing changes in that OAK/NYG game.
But why say anything if you’re Pierce? You beat a bad Raiders team – cool, move on. There was no reason to say anything after the win. Shut your mouth and ball play. What was he trying to accomplish with those comments? It’s not like the Giants are going to face the Raiders again this year.
No, I don’t have a problem with Seymour talking now. Sorry, I’m a reactionary kind of guy. If someone mouths off to me and I get a chance to throw it back in their face, I’m going to make sure I do. I love what Seymour said – LOVE IT.
This really isn’t that big of a deal. I just found it ironic that Pierce mouths off and then the Saints make his defense look like a powder puff squad the next.
I guess I should have refrained from that last comment about Pierce not working hard enough, but I couldn’t resist. It was more of a pot shot than anything, snd_dsgnr, so don’t read too much into it.
This is funny because didn’t Seymour just thank Pierce for his comments? Didn’t he say that it was a wakeup call to him? He should have given Pierce the game ball in their win against Philly last weekend.
Something woke Oakland up. I haven’t seem the Raiders defense play that well in years.

As I recall the context of what Pierce was saying was that he grew up a Raiders fan and hates seeing where the team is. More specifically he was talking about the lack of emotion, energy, conversation, etc from the Raiders offense. It wasn’t just bashing a bad team when they were down, he was making an observation on the team’s chemistry.

See that’s just the thing, Seymour didn’t throw it back in Pierce’s face. At all. The Giants got beaten down by the Saints, not the Raiders.
Sure the Raiders came up with a nice win this past Sunday, but somehow I doubt that Pierce is particularly heartbroken over the Raiders putting the Eagles 2 games behind the Giants in the division.
For full disclosure here, my response might have something to do with seeing my team get blown out and subsequently spending 4 days listening to Cowboys fans act like their team was the one that did it.
Bit touchy on the matter at the moment.
snd_dsgnr,
You’ve been a reader of TSR for a long time and I always apperciate and enjoy reading your comments.
I agree with you – Pierce’s comments don’t take away from how bad Oakland looked in New York. If his comments were taken out of context, then I don’t see what he said as being a big deal.
I think we can all agree that Cowboys fans are amongst the most irritating in all of sports.
