Waiver Wire Watch: Week 7

Every week, I highlight a few players that you should target in waivers. I use the ESPN league data when filtering players, so the only players eligible for discussion here are those that are available on the waiver wire in at least 50% of ESPN’s leagues. I’ll list each player’s percentage-owned after their name so you have an idea of how available they are in leagues around the country. I’ll always try to mention a few players that are available in 90% of leagues for those of you in 12-team leagues or leagues with big rosters. I’ll rank them in the order I’d pick them up in a league with a high-performance, PPR scoring system.

Please note that these rankings are for total value through the end of the year. Players with particularly good matchups this week are in bold.

If Hasselbeck, Garrard or Cassel are available, I’d grab them first before moving onto the list below. These are pretty slim pickings.

Shaun Hill (16.0)
Jake Delhomme (14.0)
Derek Anderson (4.6)
Chad Henne (3.2)
Josh Johnson (1.6)
Marc Bulger (1.4)
JaMarcus Russell (4.1)
Ryan Fitzpatrick (0.0)

Waiver Wire Watch: Week 6

Every week, I highlight a few players that you should target in waivers. I use the ESPN league data when filtering players, so the only players eligible for discussion here are those that are available on the waiver wire in at least 50% of ESPN’s leagues. I’ll list each player’s percentage-owned after their name so you have an idea of how available they are in leagues around the country. Please note that these rankings are for total value through the end of the year. Players with particularly good matchups this week are in bold.

Matt Hasselbeck (54.6) is out there in almost 46% of leagues and when he’s on the field, he’s clearly roster-worthy. He has a great upcoming schedule, so grab him before picking anyone else up on this list:

Jason Campbell (40.1)
After some early season struggles, Campbell is averaging 218 yards and 1.7 TD over the last three games. A nice matchup with the Chiefs awaits.
Shaun Hill (13.4)
Hill is on bye this week and didn’t play particularly well against the Falcons in Week 5. However, he has a tasty matchup with the Texans in Week 7, so if you’re looking for a bye-week fill in, you could do worse.
Matthew Stafford (6.9)
If he can play, which is unlikely considering the Lions have a bye in Week 6 and may decide to give him the extra rest, Stafford has a nice matchup with the Packers this week.
Derek Anderson (3.7)
Marc Bulger (1.3)
Jake Delhomme (14.6)
Chad Henne (1.6)
Josh Johnson (1.4)
Johnson posted 240 yards and 2 TD (along with three INT) against the Eagles. Not bad for a rookie.

Waiver Wire Watch: Week 5

Please note that these rankings are for total value through the end of the year. Players with particularly good matchups this week are in bold.

Shaun Hill (8.9)
With Frank Gore out, Hill is becoming more of a factor in the SF offense, and he’s taking advantage of a pretty easy schedule.
Mark Sanchez (51.7)
Jason Campbell (32.4)
He can be started when he has a good matchup, and this makes him a good guy to have as part of a committee.
Derek Anderson (0.8)
Anderson makes the Browns a threat again.
Jake Delhomme (16.8)
Matthew Stafford (6.9)
Kerry Collins (11.0)
Josh Johnson (1.2)
Chad Henne (0.8)
Kyle Boller (0.4)

Waiver Wire Watch: Week 4

Every week, I highlight a few players that you should target in waivers. I use the ESPN league data when filtering players, so the only players eligible for discussion here are those that are available on the waiver wire of at least 50% of ESPN’s leagues.

Mark Sanchez (45.1)
Sanchez posted his third-straight solid fantasy day. He’s averaging 202 yards and 1.3 TD per game in his young career. He can be trusted for fill-in duty.
Shaun Hill (8.5)
Hill is going to put up good fantasy numbers when the 49ers can’t run the ball down their opponent’s throat.
Jason Campbell (20.4)
Campbell is averaging 264 yards and 1.0 TD per game. He has a nice matchup next week against the Bucs.
Jake Delhomme (19.2)
Kerry Collins (10.7)
Matthew Stafford (6.7)
It’s probably not a good idea to roster Stafford in a league that penalizes INTs heavily, but he could be okay in deep leagues that don’t.
Seneca Wallace (0.3)
Kyle Boller (0.1)
It looks like Marc Bulger is going to be out for a while and Boller is a journeyman who could put up decent fantasy numbers since the Rams will be trailing most of the time.
JaMarcus Russell (9.9)
Chad Henne (0.3)

Waiver Wire Watch: Week 3

Every week, I highlight a few players that you should target in waivers. Please note that these rankings are for total value through the end of the year. Players with particularly good matchups this week are in bold.

Trent Edwards is available in 57% of ESPN leagues, so if he’s out there, pick him up first before moving onto the rest of the list…

Mark Sanchez (31.5)
The rookie has looked solid in his first two games and fared pretty well against a pretty tough New England defense last week.
Byron Leftwich (4.9)
The Bucs propensity to trail keeps Leftwich throwing a ton throughout the game.
Shaun Hill (10.9)
His defense and running game might prevent him from fulfilling his sleeper status this season.
Chad Pennington (24.6)
Kerry Collins (10.5)
If the Titans’ poor pass defense keeps up, they’ll have to keep throwing in the second half.
Jake Delhomme (26.1)
JaMarcus Russell (10.4)
Marc Bulger (2.8)
Kevin Kolb (0.3)
Has KC this week, so if McNabb doesn’t play, he’s a viable fantasy start.
Jason Campbell (21.9)
