      LeBron to win MVP

      Here’s a shocker — LeBron James is going to win the 2009-2010 Most Valuable Player award.

      At age 25, James becomes the second-youngest to win back-to-back MVPs. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a couple of months younger when he won his back-to-back award in 1972. The others two win back-to-back are Steve Nash, Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Abdul-Jabbar. Only Bird, Chamberlain and Russell ever won the award three years in a row.

      Last year James won in a landslide, getting 109 of the first-place 121 votes given out to sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the league. This year, James is expected to approach winning the award unanimously.

      LeBron has a good chance to win this award again and again, though NBA writers are fickle and they’ll start looking for reasons to give the award to someone else once voting for LeBron wears thin. The same thing happened to Michael Jordan.

      Cavs, Celtics advance

      LeBron James posted a near-triple-double (19-10-9) to help his Cavs fend off the feisty Bulls, 96-94. Antawn Jamison led Cleveland with 25 points.

      In Boston, Dwyane Wade has his own near-triple-double (31-8-10) but the Heat fell to the Celtics, 96-86. Ray Allen caught fire from three (5-of-6, 24 points) and Paul Pierce chipped in with an efficient 21-7-6. Rajon Rondo posted 16-8-12 in the win.

      The two teams square off in the next round — it should be a knock-down, drag-out battle. These two franchises simply don’t like each other.

      Poll: Does a Cavs championship mean that LeBron will re-sign?

      Every so often we examine the results of our weekly poll. Last week, we asked the following question, and 204 readers responded. Here are the results:

      I’m a little surprised that almost a quarter answered that a Cavs championship would lead to LeBron’s departure because it seems counter-intuitive. If winning is the most important thing, and he just won a title with this roster, why would he bolt?

      I understand the argument that he would have just brought a title to Cleveland, so now he can leave, but this isn’t a prison sentence, is it? The idea is to win multiple championships, right? Why start over somewhere else?

      If the Cavs do win the title, I can only see LeBron leaving if he, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all agree to take a little less money to meet up in New York, and that scenario is a longshot at best.

      LeBron’s triple-double keys blowout

      I wonder if LeBron James watched his buddy Dwyane Wade go nuts against the Celtics. Because he certainly looked inspired against the Bulls, posting 37 points (on 11-of-17 shooting), 12 rebounds and 11 assists in the Cavs’ 121-98 victory in Chicago. When James is hitting his threes — and he went 6-of-9 on Sunday — he’s unstoppable. And he was unstoppable on Sunday.

      The Cavs are going to move on to the second round; it’s just a matter of when.
