      Kirk Cousins isn’t Superman

      Can we stop with all the talk about Kirk Cousins being better than RGIII? Everyone can have a bad day, but tonight Cousins had one for the ages. I think he’s on four interceptions now. I’ve lost count.

      Of course, his offensive line blows, so his fans can offer up some excuses. But Cousins has been ordinary when teams have had a week to prepare and game plan for him. He has some talent, but he looks like all those other backup quarterbacks who can come off the bench and play well at times, but then has some trouble when a defense is ready for him.

      I know – RGIII hasn’t been that good either, so some of the talk about Cousins has been justified. But now that he’s been embarrassed on national television with his head hanging low, let’s see just how good he is. With Seattle and Arizona coming up on the schedule the next two weeks things won’t be getting any easier.

      Meanwhile, the New York Giants suddenly look like a football team. They have a defense, and Eli Manning is learning the new system. Don’t count them out yet.

      A #BadCombo could potentially be 95 degree heat and endless asphalt. But COMBOS came up with a solution.

      Roger Goodell channels Sergeant Schultz

      Roger Goodell claims he didn’t see the Ray Rice video where he punches and knocks out his fiancee Janay Palmer (now Janay Rice). I guess I believe him, as there’s no way anyone would suspend that jackass for only two games after seeing this video.

      What’s clear is that Goodell didn’t want to see it. Goodell employed the Sergeant Schultz strategy of closing his eyes to an obvious problem. Anyone with a brain would know that if Ms. Palmer was knocked out in the elevator, any footage of the event would be toxic and would require real punishment.

      This mess overshadows some good things Goodell is about to do with the revision of the NFL’s marijuana policy, the implementation of HGH testing and (hopefully) ending the suspensions of Josh Gordon and Wes Welker who were punished under idiotic rules.

      That stuff won’t get much attention now, as the footage of Rice’s brutal punch across the jaw of Palmer will be played over and over again, rightfully condemning Goodell and the NFL for the pitiful response to this shameful incident.

      Seattle dominates Green Bay

      The first game of the 2014 season is coming to an end, and it still looks like the 2013 season.

      Seattle still tackles well, and the Packers still suck at tackling. And while Aaron Rodgers is still very good at playing quarterback, he can’t beat the Seahawks by himself.

      I know the Packers won a Super Bowl with Dom Capers running the defense, but that unit has been a disaster ever since.

      Meanwhile, with a healthy Percy Harvin, the Seattle offense is even tougher to stop, as Russell Wilson continues to do a good job distributing the ball to his playmakers.

      It will be hard to bet against them at home.
