      Seahawks on verge of luckiest Super Bowl ever; end with biggest choke job ever

      This was the greatest Super Bowl ever. The ending was stunning in so many ways, from Tom Brady leading a fourth quarter comeback against the Seattle defense, only to be followed by another miraculous catch that seemed to spell doom again for the Patriots, to what can easily be described as the worst play call in NFL history.

      Here are some thoughts with some real time tweets mixed in:

      – I’m not a Russell Wilson fan, and I wasn’t looking forward to eating even more crow had he managed to win his second straight Super Bowl. Still, there’s no way I can blame Wilson for the last interception that cost Seattle the game. We can pick apart his throw and the decision (some are explaining you have to throw that ball low at the goal line), but this all comes back to Pete Carroll and Darrell Bevell making that asinine play call. Also, looking at this shot below, you can see why Wilson threw the ball and just how brilliant Malcolm Butler was as he broke to the ball to make that play:

      Sammy Watkins on growing up a Bills fan, Pepsi Halftime and facing Darrelle Revis

      Rochester, New York is now the most hyped hometown in America thanks to Pepsi and stud wide receiver Sammy Watkins, a lifelong Bills fan.

      This past Sunday, over 7,500 fans celebrated Rochester’s win in the Pepsi contest with their own ultimate Super Bowl halftime experience headlined by popular singing/songwriting duo Nico & Vinz, and appearances by new head coach Rex Ryan and Watkins.

      Watkins was the NFL Rookie of the Week three times during the 2014 season and was the NFL Rookie of the Month for October. He also set single-season franchise rookie records with 65 receptions and 982 receiving yards, while scoring six touchdowns.

      Talk about the work you did with Pepsi.

      I worked with Pepsi on the “Hyped for Halftime” contest, which was a contest to find the best fans in the NFL. Rochester, NY did a great job as fans and I’m happy to say we won. They did it! They’ve been leading us for 30 to 40 years, helping us on and off the field, so this is a great treat for them.

      One word to describe Bills fans is “crazy.” When we’re hitting at all points on offense and defense, the stadium gets crazy. Sometimes, we have to quiet them down so we can get the play call in. Pepsi was looking for the best fans and this proves we’ve got the best fans. And, Rochester got their own Pepsi Halftime Show, just like the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show with Katy Perry.

      What’s your favorite play from your rookie season?

      Winning the game against the Vikings when I scored on the goalline with one second left. It was a great play call. Coach Moore (former 10-year veteran wide receiver Rob Moore) put me in the position to make the play. He basically said, “This game is going to come down to the wide receivers. Get ready because it may be you.” He called the play, and I made a great play at the end of the game.

      Who is the best defender you’ve faced?

      Darelle Revis, the guy who I think is the best corner in the league.

      Le’Veon Bell injury stops Steelers

      If you read the Pittsburgh papers, there are plenty of reasons why this Steelers team couldn’t get past Baltimore in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. But most of that talk is just filler for sports columnists. It all starts with the loss of Le’Veon Bell who emerged as one of the top running backs in football this season. Ben Roethlisberger is still an elite quarterback, but take away his running game and you remove any room for error. And while Roethlisberger is the king of the big play, he makes those plays by taking chances, and forcing him into difficult circumstances can lead to turnovers. The Ravens were able to unleash some blitzes and the result was another road playoff win for Joe Flacco and his gang. Now the Patriots face the prospect of another Ravens team coming to town and possibly spoiling the party.

      R.I.P. Stuart Scott

      There’s sad news today as ESPN anchor Stuart Scott has passed away following a battle with cancer at the age of 49. Scott was talented and entertaining, and he was always a class act. I saw him in person several years ago at the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year awards where he was the MC as you can see in the photo above.

      Our thoughts go out to Scott’s family and everyone at ESPN.
