      Big Ben announcement coming on Monday

      The DA will announce a decision on Ben Roethlisberger’s sexual assault case on Monday by 2:00PM ET, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting.

      Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fredric D. Bright this morning announced that he had completed his review of the investigation into a sexual assault accusation against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, and will announce his decision on whether to file charges Monday afternoon.

      “The investigation, interviews and report in the Roethlisberger matter have been completed and reviewed,” Mr. Bright said in a statement.

      “We will be announcing the decision in this case in a news conference to be held on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Baldwin County Courthouse.”

      I’m not a lawyer, but I would be surprised if Roethlisberger gets into serious trouble. Unless there are witnesses that saw her being forced into the bathroom, then all anyone has is a bunch of he said, she said claims. And if she was drinking that night, it’ll be even harder for her to prove that Roethlisberger did anything wrong.

      If he did sexually assault her, I hope he’s convicted. But I think it’s going to be hard for her to prove that seeing as how the two of them were alone in a bathroom together.

      That said, if Big Ben is indicted, then he could face stiff punishment from the NFL. Michael Vick was indicted for dog fighting and the league suspended him indefinitely. I’m not saying the same thing will happen with Roethlisberger, but he’s about to have an interesting next couple of months.

      Carmelo Anthony collapses and no one seems to care

      Strange scene in Oklahoma City the other night. Carmelo Anthony knocks his head on Kevin Durant and collapses, and play goes on. Take a look:

      Why would the refs put the ball in play with a player laid out on the floor? Why wouldn’t the Denver coaching staff yell and scream for a timeout? Why in the world is J.R. Smith trying to score when his teammate is prone on the court? Several people dropped the ball in this situation.

      Here is what Chauncey Billups and Kenyon Martin had to say about it:

      “I couldn’t believe J.R. would try to go for the layup,” said Chauncey Billups, who was on the bench at the time. “I was like, ‘Dude, are you serious? Call timeout, man, you see the dude ain’t move. What in the world are you thinking about?'”

      Martin veered toward the positive, pointing out how Anthony was able to return and help the Nuggets to an important victory over the Thunder.

      “It says a lot about Melo to be laying out like that and come back in and hit two clutch free throws,” Martin said.

      He was asked, doesn’t the play say a lot about J.R. Smith?

      “Yeah, whatever,” Martin said.

      Tiger two back of leader at 2010 Masters

      Despite being entrenched in controversy stemming from a sex scandal since Thanksgiving of last year, Tiger Woods came out in the first round of the 2010 Masters and played outstanding.

      From ESPN.com:

      For the first time in 16 appearances at the Masters, Tiger Woods opened the tournament by breaking 70, shooting a 4-under 68 to trail 50-year-old Fred Couples by 2 shots.

      It was Woods’ first round of tournament golf in 144 days after a highly publicized sex scandal that caused him to take a leave from the game.

      “Very pleased,” Woods said of his first official round of golf since winning the Australian Masters on Nov. 15. “I hit the ball well all day. … For the most part, I think I hit the ball well all day. And I just didn’t make a lot of putts. If I putted well today, it could have been a really special round.”

      “The people were just incredible, incredible all day,” he said.

      It’s nice to see people separate what Tiger does off the links from what he does on them. There was really no reason to boo or criticize him, seeing as how golf has little or nothing to do with his personal life. He may still be the scum of the earth for cheating on his wife with porn stars, groupies and whoever was working the counter at Taco Bell that late Friday night, but again, that has little to do with his golf career.

      It appears that the scandal humbled Tiger a bit, and that’s a good thing.

      Could the Chargers be interested in trading for Lynch?

      ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that Bills running back Marshawn Lynch is the player that he thinks will most likely be traded this offseason.

      “No. 1, the Buffalo Bills running back, Marshawn Lynch,” Schefter replies. “They have a new coach, a new GM and any time there are new people in charge, they bring in their own players. Marshawn Lynch could be traded on or before the draft.”

      A recent Buffalo News story claims Lynch wants out of Buffalo. A recent Olean Times Herald column says the Bills would like to move him. But Lynch has no leverage, and the Bills probably couldn’t get enough in return for him to make it worth their while from a personnel standpoint.

      Schefter also named Brandon Marshall and Jason Campbell as two more players that will likely be dealt sometime this offseason.

      This is just speculation on my part, but I would expect that the Chargers would be interested in Lynch, who played at Cal. San Diego has a huge void at running back and seeing as how Lynch is only 23, he could still wind up being a featured back. Maybe a change of scenery would be good for the running back and if he’s traded, maybe it will motivate him to stay out of trouble.

      Brad Stevens signs 12-year extension

      Looks like Brad Stevens is staying put, at least until 2021.

      The 33-year-old coach, who came within a buzzer-beating shot of winning the NCAA men’s basketball championship, signed a 12-year deal Thursday that extends through the 2021-22 season.

      Man, Butler doesn’t screw around. Stevens was generating interest from Oregon and Clemson, and Butler stepped up and signed the coach to a LONG-term deal.
