Is the Dak Prescott hype out of control?

Seriously? Have you heard some of the crazy hype around Dak Prescott after his preseason performances? Trent Dilfer is gushing like a schoolgirl. Michael Smith is already predicting the Cowboys shouldn’t want to bring back Tony Romo when he’s finally healthy again (he’s assuming of course that Prescott will be a star).

Slow down. Let’s see this kid perform in a real NFL game before proclaiming him a future pro bowl quarterback.

Saints lock in Drew Brees for two more seasons

Drew Brees

The Saints have been a mess since winning the Super Bowl, partly due to the draconian punishment handed down by the NFL for Bountygate. As a result they’ve wasted many excellent seasons from Drew Brees.

With Brees getting older the window seems to have closed, particularly with the horrible mess they’ve called a defense in New Orleans. But now that they’ve run Rob Ryan out of town, perhaps they can get the defense back on track.

Meanwhile, Brees still puts up solid numbers, they’ve signed him to an extension, and the Saints have added a nice receiver in Michael Thomas. Can this team compete for the playoff spot? Hard to say, though I’m very interested to see how Thomas does this year from a fantasy point of view now that he’s been named a starter.

Romo and Bridgewater Injuries Effect on NFL Futures

Every year it seems inevitable, some NFL team will lose their starting quarterback due to injury for a substantial amount of time before the regular season event commences. This year is no exception. As a matter of fact, during the last week alone, we’ve witnessed two such unfortunate mishaps. Dallas’ Tony Romo sustained a broken vertebrae last week at Seattle, and will be lost for at least half the season. Then just yesterday, Minnesota’s Teddy Bridgewater suffered a gruesome knee injury during practice, and it will definitely sideline him for the year, besides quite possibly jeopardizing his playing career.

Teddy Bridgewater injures his knee

It looks like Teddy Bridgewater has suffered a serious knee injury, as he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and is currently sedated and getting and MRI according to the Vikings. We don’t have any confirmation yet on the extent of the injury but all signs point to Teddy being lost for the season, which would be a huge blow to the playoff chances for the Vikings. There are probably many fantasy owners out there who will have to juggle their rosters as well . . .

It will be interesting to see who the Vikings target in terms of other quarterbacks. The Browns will want a lot for Josh McCown, but Mark Sanchez will likely be released by the Broncos and the Jets might be cutting Bryce Petty.
