The NFL Scouting Combine was once an afterthought for fans, but that’s not the case now that the NFL Draft has become an offseason event. With the combine running this weekend, I take a look at five prospects who have the most to gain from a good showing, and five with the most to lose in my latest column for Bullz-Eye.com.

The Falcons, Raiders and Chiefs participated in a coin flip Friday morning to determine the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 picks in the draft. Atlanta won the toss, so it will choose third, while Oakland will choose fourth and the Chiefs will choose fifth.

– The Browns re-signed Jamal Lewis to a three-year contact. It appears that GM Phil Savage is trying to keep the core of the team together seeing as how the Browns were knocking on the doorstep of a postseason berth last year.
– The Panthers cut running back DeShaun Foster. The team tried to shop him over the past few days, but apparently the market was light for a back that has a bloated salary and trouble staying on the field.
– The Patriots decided not to use their franchise tag on wide receiver Randy Moss. The Boston Globe speculates that Moss and the Pats have already reached an agreement on a multi-year deal, but nothing can be announced until February 29 when free agency officially starts.
– The Bears won’t use their franchise tag on receiver Bernard Berrian. He’s likely to test the market according to the Chicago Sun Times.
– Travis Henry restructured his contract and will remain a Bronco.
– The Seahawks have used their franchise tag on cornerback Marcus Trufant.
With the NFL Scouting Combine kicking off Thursday and running through next Tuesday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper has five players to keep an eye on over the next couple of days.
Speaking of Malcolm Kelly, he said Wednesday that he wouldn’t run the 40-yard dash at the combine due to a leg injury he suffered at the Fiesta Bowl.
– Browns’ GM Phil Savage says the team is closing in on a new three-year contract with quarterback Derek Anderson. D.A. originally stated that he was looking for a contract in the six to seven-year range.
– The Falcons are reportedly gauging other teams’ interest in cornerback DeAngelo Hall. Hall will become a free agent in 2009.
– The Panthers tagged offensive tackle Jordan Gross, who was supposed to garner plenty of interest on the free agent market.
– The Colts franchise tagged tight end Dallas Clark. There were some rumblings that Indy might go after recently released Alge Crumpler, but that doesn’t make much sense now that they’ve tagged Clark.
– Dallas will reportedly allow left tackle Flozell Adams to hit the free agent market, which would leave Pat McQuistan and James Battle to protect Tony Romo’s blindside.
