Fantasy Football Podcast #5 (10/2/08)

Listen in as Anthony Stalter and I discuss the Al Davis/Monte Kiffin debacle, the emergence of Lance Moore, the Baltimore running game, Carson Palmer’s elbow and the Redskins/Eagles battle, among other topics.

Click here to listen to the podcast.

(In honor of the Davis/Kiffin feud, the opening music is The Dandy Warhols’ “We Used to Be Friends,” which also served as the theme song to brilliant-but-cancelled television show, “Veronica Mars.”)

Al Davis talks about Lane Kiffin, Kiffin responds

Davis: “…what I would call propaganda, the lying that had been going on for weeks… and months… and a year… and time.”

Kiffin: “Does that mean I don’t get paid?”
Davis: “That’s what I’m saying to you.”

Lane Kiffin responds…

I’m still not clear how Davis can fire Kiffin without paying him the remainder of his contract. I smell a lawsuit.

Rams go back to Marc Bulger at quarterback

Jim HaslettScott Linehan is out as head coach of the St. Louis Rams and Jim Haslett is in. (At least on an interim basis.)

And in his first major move as interim head coach, Haslett has decided to hand the reigns of the Rams’ offense back to quarterback Marc Bulger.

Bulger took all the snaps with the first-string offense in practice — which was open to the media for the first time since the 2005 season — on Tuesday.

“Marc’s the starting quarterback, and he’ll be the starting quarterback the rest of the year unless something happens,’’ Haslett said. “I talk to Marc and Trent (Green) about it. It’s more a gut feeling on my part. I talked to the offensive coaches, and everybody involved, and I thought Marc would give us the best opportunity to win games for the next three months.’’

Well this should make Steven Jackson and Co. happy again. Although with the way this team has played over the first four weeks of the season, it won’t matter who’s under center.

NFL Photos of the Week

Here are a few of my favorite photos from Week 4. Click on the picture to see a bigger version at NFL.com.

This is a nice shot of a 49er defender hanging off of Reggie Bush, who is having a great season thus far. This picture captures how an improving San Francisco defense was able to contain Bush. (Unfortunately, they couldn’t contain anyone else in the Saints’ offense.)

The timing of this picture is incredible; the photo was snapped just as the ball reached the hands of Tony Gonzalez. There were probably 30 photographers trying to get this shot, but only one managed to capture it.

I like this shot because it represents the first bit of real adversity in Jay Cutler’s remarkable 2008 season. I especially like the contrast between his look of disgust and the faceless mass of out of focus Kansas City fans in the background, who were no doubt cheering their fool heads off.

At NFL.com, you can vote for the photo of the week. (But be warned, none of these were nominated.)
