      Is Brett Favre undermining his old team?

      Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com is reporting that Brett Favre spends his free time giving insider tips to upcoming opponents of the Green Bay Packers.

      Several sources have told FOX Sports that Favre earlier this year phoned the Detroit Lions prior to their battle versus Favre’s old team, the Green Bay Packers, and gave them a rundown of the nuances of what Green Bay does on offense. According to the sources, Favre actually spent over an hour on the phone with Lions coaches, who were connected with Favre by then-team president Matt Millen.

      While the Lions still lost and the Packers and Favre’s replacement Aaron Rodgers played well, it’s still baffling that the Packers legend would spend such a significant chunk of time giving tips to an opponent of his long-time franchise.

      Other teams the Packers have played had also heard about the Favre coaching clinic with Detroit. In addition, there have been rumors that Favre has spoken to other teams giving them information, but most of those teams insist they have not heard from the famed gunslinger.

      Glazer goes onto say that there’s nothing in the rule book that says Favre can’t do this, but that just doesn’t pass the smell test. If true, Favre is actively working against his old team, the franchise where he spent 16 years as the starting quarterback. Not only that, but shouldn’t he be spending his free time with his family? After all, that was one of the main reasons he gave for walking away from Green Bay in the first place.

      We all know he still has a beef with Ted Thompson, but to work against Packer fans like this is simply beneath him. He’s getting into “tarnish the legacy” territory here.

      Say it ain’t so, Brett. Say it ain’t so.

      Larry Johnson faces another suspension

      ESPN.com is reporting that Chiefs’ running back Larry Johnson is at risk for facing yet another suspension after being in a physical altercation with a woman at a Kansas City nightclub. And yes, this would be Johnson’s second incident this year involving a physical altercation with a woman.

      Larry JohnsonDuring the Chiefs’ recent bye week, Johnson was involved in a physical altercation with a woman at a Kansas City nightclub, sources told ESPN — the second such late-night incident he has found himself in this year. The incident is consistent with a pattern of off-field behavior that league sources expect will lead to a suspension for Johnson under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
      It’s unclear whether Johnson has been or will be charged in the incident.
      “It’s just a matter of for how long,” one source said of a possible suspension.

      Johnson has been involved in at least three other incidents during his six-year NFL career; the bye week incident is his fourth — not third, as reported last week — and second of 2008. Each incident involved one or more of three common denominators: a female accuser, alcohol and a nightclub. In the case of the past three, it’s been all of the above.

      I just don’t get it. How hard is it to not get into trouble off the field? How hard is it to not hit, push or do any kind of physical hard to a woman? Some of these athletes think that just because they play professional sports that normal society rules don’t apply to them. And Larry Johnson is one of them.

      Jeremy Shockey blasts Saints

      Here’s a shock (no pun intended): Jeremy Shockey is upset with the team he plays for. Following New Orleans’ 30-7 loss to the Panthers in Week 7, Shockey ripped the Saints for mishandling his groin injury and now he might not play next week against the Chargers in London.

      Jeremy Shockey“I feel a spot in my leg that wasn’t there before,” said Shockey, who indicated he was hopeful he only dug up scar tissue and did not suffer more damage.

      Shockey was clearly slowed by the injury. Later, after a catch, Shockey had the ball stripped by Julius Peppers and Carolina recovered. It led to the Panthers’ go-ahead touchdown in a rout that left Shockey in a foul mood despite leading the team with five catches for 50 yards.

      “I had a fumble that hurt the team. I missed a backside cutoff block,” Shockey said. “That’s on me, 14 points I felt like I gave up today, not because of effort, but just because physically I’m not healthy.”
      Shockey said he may have come back too soon from the surgery, and also indicated the Saints erred by misdiagnosing him in training camp.

      “I’m worried that this thing could have been taken care of in camp, like it should have been,” said Shockey, who the Saints acquired from the New York Giants in July for two draft picks. “If it wasn’t misdiagnosed in camp like it was there’d have been no problems. … Next time I know. When I get hurt I’ll get three or four opinions besides just the team’s.”

      Ah the old, “I take full credit for my mistakes today, but really it was someone else’s fault.”

      Shockey didn’t fumble because he was hurt. He fumbled because he wasn’t taking care of the ball and got stripped. Why the Saints were running a screen pass to the tight end in that situation is beyond me, but that’s beside the point. When Shockey was in New York, the Giants mistreated him. When he was traded to New Orleans, everything was great because he was going to get the opportunity to play in Sean Payton’s offense. But now that things haven’t started off so well, he’s got to bitch and blast the team. The Giants have to be laughing right now and breathing a sigh of relief that they don’t have to deal with him anymore.

      Fantasy Fallout, Week 7: Free Agents

      Now, for a little news about players that are probably on your league’s waiver wire…

      The Browns may be looking to make a change after Derek Anderson’s shaky outing (14/37, 136 yards, TD). The Brady Quinn era could start soon…As long as Chris Chambers is out, Malcom Floyd (7-140-2 over the last two weeks) looks like a sneaky good start…With both Brandon Lloyd and Devin Hester hobbled, Rashied Davis (3-24) and Marty Booker (3-79-1) become even more important at WR…Cedric Benson (15 touches, 62 yards) is now the starting running back in Cincy, and he didn’t look too bad in the Steelers’ blowout win…Ryan Fitzpatrick (164 yards, TD) did a pretty good job filling in for Carson Palmer, who may be out a while…Kolby Smith (12 touches, 25 yards) was the main ballcarrier with Larry Johnson out and he (and the Chiefs) were ineffective against the Titans’ stout defense…Greg Camarillo (6-74) continues to post spot starter numbers in PPR leagues…Josh Morgan (5-86-1) finally had a good game. I wouldn’t run out and try to acquire him, but he’s a guy to monitor…Vernon Davis (1-5) proved that last week’s nice game was a fluke. Leave him on the waiver wire unless you’re absolutely desperate…Donnie Avery (9-138-1 over the last two weeks) is worth a pickup in bigger leagues…Kevin Smith (11 touches, 68 yards, TD) may not technically be the starter, but he sure looks like the Lions’ best RB…Mike Furrey (6-89) deserves a big upgrade (especially in PPR leagues) now that Roy Williams is gone…Ahman Green (15 touches, 65 yards, TD) looks like he’ll get considerable work as long as he’s healthy. The Texans want to avoid wearing down Steve Slaton…There was a Javon Walker (5-75-1) sighting! Is this a reason to get excited? Doubtful, but monitor the situation going forward…Jeff Garcia (310 yards, TD) is back in the saddle in Tampa and he’s roster worthy going forward.

      Fantasy Fallout, Week 7: TEs

      Jeremy Shockey (5-50) was frustrated after his team’s loss to the Panthers and may have aggravated his groin injury on the first play of the game. He finished with decent numbers, but keep an eye on his status this week…Dante Rosario failed to catch a pass against the Saints…Visanthe Shiancoe (4-68-1) doesn’t bring it every week, but he’s much more of a threat now that there’s a QB in Minny that can hit the open man…With Devin Hester out, look for Greg Olsen (6-74-1) to become even more involved in Chicago’s passing attack…Despite the Chiefs not agreeing to Gonzo’s trade request, the tight end still went out and caught six passes for 97 yards…Bo Scaife (3-48) continues to be the best thing the Titans have going in the passing game.
