#1 Alabama destroys USC in season opener

We’ve seen this movie before. Alabama deserves credit for consistently scheduling power 5 competition for its opener each year, and the Crimson Ride deserves even more credit for what is becoming an annual blowout to start the season.

USC came out with some fire, and this was a close, defensive struggle for the first quarter. But then Nick Saben inserted true freshman Jalen Hurts at quarterback and Alabama never looked back on its was to a 52-6 rout of the Trojans.

Hurts give Saban a weapon at quarterback ha hasn’t had in recent years as he piled up national titles. Hurts has a strong arm but is also athletic and poses a threat running the ball as well. It’s scary to think of bow good Alabama can be with a duel-threat quarterback. Wow.

Get used to hearing more Alabama hype as the season progresses. So far they’ve earned it.

Wisconsin upsets #5 LSU at Lambeau

The Badgers tried to give this game away, but they made the plays in the fourth quarter to finish off an impressive upset over #5 LSU at Lambeau Field. The Badgers can celebrate while Big Ten fans throw some shade at the SEC.

Meanwhile, Les Miles came into this season with very high expectations after he almost got pushed out the door in the offseason. A loss on the road against Wisconsin won’t by itself ruin the season for LSU. They’ll have plenty of shots at redemption in the touch SEC with Leonard Fournette leading the way. But now Les will have to listen to all the doubters again as the season progresses. And LSU will need to play better if they want to turn the tables against Alabama.

#15 Houston handles #3 Oklahoma

We’ve come to expect this from Bob Stoops and Oklahoma. Whenever expectations get high, his teams seem to fold.

Coming off of an appearance in the College Football Playoff and opening the season as the third-ranked team in the country, the Sooners faced off against a ranked Houston team led by the new coaching sensation on the block in Tom Herman. The result was a 33-23 loss that won’t sit well with Sooner Nation.

Meanwhile, Houston becomes that Group of 5 team that everyone will have to contend with as a threat to crack the College Football Playoff. Their schedule is very favorable going forward apart from a battle with Louisville later in the season.

Christian McCaffrey off to solid start vs Kansas State

Christian McCaffrey will be generating a ton of buzz all season, and he got off to a solid start vs Kansas State with 210 all purpose yards and two touchdowns. The kid has talent.

Meanwhile, Stanford didn’t look dominating against a Kansas State that kept shooting itself in the foot. But it’s better than the opening day loss they suffered last year.
