Marcus Vick fought the law and the law won…again

SPORTSbyBROOKS.com posts a story from the Nofolk Virginian-Pilot about multiple-screw up Marcus Vick being cited for a DUI in eastern Virginia.

According to Officer Chris Amos, police spokesman, a bicycle officer approached a couple arguing in a car in the 200 block of Granby Street around 2 a.m. Friday.

When the officer asked for the man’s identification the car took off at high speed, Amos said. A few minutes later another officer spotted the car and stopped it in the 300 block of Armistead Ave.

Vick, of the 5100 block of West Creek St., failed a sobriety test, Amos said, and was charged with DUI, misdemeanor eluding police, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. The woman, identified as Delicia Lenora Cordon, 24, of Miami, was charged with being drunk in public.

So in Vick’s flee from justice, he only managed to drive a mile and a half down the street? That’s not running from the law; that’s more like jogging from the law.

That crazy Vick. He doesn’t even have the instincts to elude the authorities. No wonder he couldn’t stay in the league. What NFL team would take a guy that couldn’t even outrun the cops.

It’s safe to say at this point that Momma Vick produced two fine, upstanding gentlemen. One’s in jail for breeding pit bulls so he can bet on them in fights, while the other stomps on people’s legs during football games, brandishes a gun in a fast food parking lot and is getting cited for DUI’s. Outstanding.

LSU kicks quarterback Perrilloux off team

LSU head football coach Les Miles finally had enough of Ryan Perrilloux’s off-field issues had decided to kick the quarterback off the team.

“Ryan was given every opportunity to be a part of this football team,” Miles said in a release Friday.

Perrilloux, who was suspended by the Tigers last summer, was on the fringe of a counterfeiting investigation and was caught trying to enter a Baton Rouge casino with false identification. He also was involved in a fracas at a nightclub in November, but was cleared of wrongdoing.

Miles suspended Perrilloux, whose father died Feb. 7, in mid-February after he missed a team meeting, skipped some classes and was late for a handful of conditioning workouts.

It’s sad to see a young man lose his father and then head down a wrong road. But it certainly doesn’t seem that Miles acted irrationally and he definitely gave Perrilloux a chance to straighten up. Maybe losing football will inspire him to turn his life around.

BCS rejects 4-team playoff proposal

The geniuses at the BCS have officially rejected a proposal that would have eventually given college football (and its fans) a 4-team playoff format.

The conference commissioners who manage the Bowl Championship Series opted Wednesday to end their brief consideration of a new plus-one format, which would have built a four-team playoff into the current five-game structure. Their action — or lack of it — assures that the current system will remain in place through at least the 2013 season.

“The thing … that came through loud and clear is there’s satisfaction with where we are,” said Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner and BCS coordinator John Swofford.

Who’s satisfied? The people lining their pockets? Please. I think I speak for many college football fans when I say, “You unbelievable mother fuc…”

Thanks for all but guaranteeing another four years of thrilling “postseason” action.

SI.com 2009 NFL Mock Draft

The college football season isn’t even close to kicking off, but hey, it’s never too early to put together a NFL mock draft right? SI.com put together its mock for the 2009 NFL Draft.

1. Chiefs (via trade with Falcons) — Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia * — A quarterback has gone No. 1 overall six out of the past eight years, and Stafford looks like the most likely candidate to develop into that kind of elite QB. His numbers were mediocre last year, but he had no line or receivers. The Falcons will have the worst record, but be able to field trade offers because they don’t need a QB.

2. Raiders — Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech * — Plays in a big numbers system, but his size and speed still make him an elite receiver. And he will fit into the “Al Davis kind of player” category.

3. Lions — Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State * — Wells said he wants to stay four years at Ohio State, but an elite running back trying to save wear and tear on his body would be foolish not to go pro as soon as possible.

4. Falcons (via trade with Chiefs) — Andre Smith, OT, Alabama * — Smith doesn’t get the publicity of Ole Miss offensive tackle Michael Oher, but we’ll take a shot on a player many considered the top prospect in his high school class.

5. Rams — James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State — Could have been a top-15 pick this year. Goes higher than usual for an inside linebacker because of athleticism.

A year from now at least two of these five prospects probably won’t go higher than the fifth round. Happens every year.

Bowden clearly not shy about his feelings for player

Clemson head football coach Tommy Bowden recently sat down with Scout.com to discuss a bevy of topics. One of those topics was how attractive freshman two-sport athlete Kyle Parker is…seriously.

On freshman Kyle Parker, who is having a really good season with the baseball team:

“I’ve watched him practice and I’ve watched him play (baseball). He’s really good looking. If I was a girl, I’d be very interested in him. He wears those tight pants. When you wear loose stuff, you can’t tell the definition of a guy’s body. In baseball, everything’s tight and you can tell he’s very well put together.”

Easy killer.
