Iowa took some real grief this past week from guys like Colin Cowherd, but frankly it was well-deserved. The Iowa Hawkeyes can’t say much here – they need to start scheduling real nonconference opponents. Until they do they’ll get little respect.
It’s interesting to hear a great coach like Urban Meyer explain the intangibles needed when you’re looking for a college quarterback. Arm talent just isn’t as high on the list, and that makes sense also given the type of offense he runs.
Of course that has to change a bit in the NFL. The intangibles are just as if not more important, but the arm talent and physical skills are more important given the level of competition.
Let the Brock Osweiler overreaction begin. He had a rough game Thursday night, and he’s rightfully taking some grief. He doesn’t look like a quarterback worth the big contract he signed.
I’ve never been a huge fan, so I’m still not impressed.
Still, the NFL is a weird league these days. Teams can look great and then lay an egg like the Texans did on Thursday. So you really have to give Osweiler time to see how he develops. To be a good NFL QB, you need to bounce back from games like this. Let’s see what Bill O’Brien can do about it.
