      HeavyMMA: UFC 119 Media Call Recap

      HeavyMMA.com recaps media day for UFC 119:

      UFC 119 is just around the corner, and today main event fighters Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Frank Mir will sat down with the media to discuss their upcoming heavyweight clash. Check out the recap of today’s call.

      1:05: Mir says his opinion of Cro Cop is the same now as it always has been. He believes that his striking is very dangerous, but is not very concerned with his submission game. Also includes that Mirko would prefer to keep the fight standing.

      1:07: Mir is then asked about where he would be most comfortable. Mir says he is comfortable anywhere the fight may go.

      1:09: Filipovic says that he doesn’t want short preparation to be an excuse. He also claims that he is completely prepared.

      1:10: Mir is asked about his increase in size. The former champion says that he is continuing to do the same things he has been doing and is anywhere between 250 and 255 pounds.

      1:11: The UFC is traveling to Indiana and will be experiencing a new market, to which Mir says he is honored to be a part of. Cro Cop addresses how this is the first main event he has been in for the UFC, saying that he is excited for the opportunity.

      With Season 12 set to debut tonight, I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite moments from the first 11 seasons of the show that has brought mixed martial arts into the living rooms of millions.

      Before you start predicting which moment will make the top of the charts, let me assure you that it is not Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar’s seminal fight from the finale of Season 1. Nothing against those two or the importance of that fight, because it was and still is a massive moment in the history of the sport, but every list ever made about The Ultimate Fighter features that bout and there is nothing more I can say that hasn’t already been said.

      Instead, let’s look back at some of the more candid and comical moments that have made The Ultimate Fighter a must-see spectacle for MMA fans and reality TV enthusiasts alike.

      BJ Penn, Matt Hughes Agree To Third Bout At UFC 123

      Former UFC champions B.J. Penn and Matt Hughes have agreed to face off for the third time in a welterweight bout at UFC 123 in November.

      CagePotato.com first reported the news on Monday evening.

      UFC 123 takes place Nov. 20 at The Palace in Auburn Hills near Detroit. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former champions Rampage Jackson and Lyoto Machida. The Hughes/Penn bout is expected to assume the co-headlining role.

      Hughes and Penn have a storied history together. The pair first faced off at UFC 46 in 2004, with the underdog Penn submitting Hughes to become the welterweight champion. Hughes got the better of Penn in the rematch at UFC 63, winning with a third-round TKO.

      Penn recently dropped his second straight fight to Frankie Edgar for the lightweight title. Hughes, meanwhile, is riding a three-fight win streak, with victories over Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida.

      Dennis Melnik of HeavyMMA.com recently sat down with UFC fighter and top contender Kenny Florida, who says he isn’t afraid to adapt.

      Kenny Florian’s philosophy is simple: “If you don’t adapt in this sport, you’re going to die. You’re going to lose.” There was a time Florian thought he had all the answers. He was on a six-fight wining streak that earned him a shot at UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn.

      The last time Florian lost was his first chance at glory, when Sean Sherk defeated him in a unanimous decision at UFC 64. He learned a lot from that loss. The problem was Florian thought he had learned it all. He entered the Penn fight determined to “kill the master” and that’s when complacency came to collect. ‘The Prodigy’ dismantled ‘Ken-Flo’ in four rounds of fighting, putting him at a crossroads and forcing him to completely reevaluate his entire regimen. When Florian responded with two straight dominant victories in later UFC matches, Dana White noticed. While condemning Diego Sanchez for leaving the lightweight division for a return to welterweight, the UFC president cited Florian as an example of learning from failure.
