OSU against U of M …twice?

The Ohio State (#1) and Michigan (#2) match up is on Saturday. The only question is why these two wouldn’t meet again on the 8th of January. There is an interesting article by Gregg Doyel of CBS Sportline.com that agrees with this point.

In my opinion, whichever team loses will still be the highest one-loss team in the nation. Does anyone really feel that Rutgers or Boise State belong in the Championship game? The Big East is a competitive conference, in the Big East. These teams would be in the middle of the pack against the SEC or BIG TEN.

NBA Players need to play NOT cry

The NBA has improved their image by implementing a dress code, warning players about off the court activities and lastly, putting in a new “technical”rule. The rule prohibits players from adamantly questioning calls. This was put in to eliminate the whining, towel throwing or just general crying.

The season has started with almost three times as many technicals fouls and 5 more ejections. Does this mean the rule is bad, or does this mean the NBA players are spoiled babies who always get their way? I believe David Stern made a good decision and in the long run with make the game about the game and not about the players. Marc Stein of ESPN.com doesn’t agree, but we all know who’s right.

Buckeyes and Wolverines are the best two teams in the country

This year will finally show the nation that Big Ten football is the best football in the country. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines will match up as #1 against #2 in Ohio Stadium. The sad part about this contest is that they’re the top two teams in the country, and this isn’t the National Championship.

The fact that USC calls their match up with California a “big game” is an insult to college football talent. Cal is an average team, as it proved by getting pounded by an overrated Tennessee Volunteer squad 35-18.

The SEC continues to claim they beat up each other, in a conference that boasts “speed is all you need”. This conference has talented skilled position players, but couldn’t handle “smash mouth” football with the Buckeyes or Wolverines. I may be old fashion, but a track meet isn’t football.

USC, on the other hand, is a very talented football team. The only issue I have with them is their weak schedule. If you consider Arkansas and Notre Dame a challenge, you may want to check out their scores against real opponents. The Irish were embarrassed at home by Michigan in a game titled “The Irish are back”.

If a playoff system were in place this year, you would see a rematch of the Buckeyes and Wolverines in the National Championship.

Canes act like “thugs” again

The Miami Hurricanes displayed to the whole country that they are a university with no class and behave like thugs rather than football players. The coach and university acted swiftly by suspending players and apologizing to the country. I believe the NCAA needs to step in and lay down fines and suspensions to the program.

This is not the first time the Hurricanes have been involved in embarrassing activity on or off the field. The ugly incident is always followed with a statement from the university and coach…”This will never happen again”. I believe the players are “out of control” and Coach Larry Coker’s methods aren’t working.

College football is quickly gaining on the NFL in popularity; I hope they have the intelligence to remove these idiots before they ruin it for everyone.

Stoops remains a professional

The Oklahoma Sooner football team got robbed on at least one, possibly two officiating calls over the weekend. The game officials have been suspended and just about everyone, including Oregon Head Coach Mike Bellotti, have called the University of Oklahoma and Head Coach Bob Stoops to apologize.

Coach Stoops has always found a way to remain professional during stressful or controversial times. Stoops believes in winning and making his players better people. Instead of following the majority, and blaming the officials for losing, Stoops points out that his team could have done numerous things better to put this game out of reach on their own. This type attitude is why Coach Stoops will always be a successful football coach.
