T.O. takes another swipe at Donovan McNabb

Apparently too much time had passed between Terrell Owens taking a shot at Donovan McNabb, so the receiver took the opportunity to do so on the “T. OCHO Show” Tuesday night.

In reference to Mike Shanahan benching McNabb last Sunday in Detroit, 2 said:

“Well, I don’t really want to start anything, but I did play in the Super Bowl and there were rumors where he couldn’t get our two-minute offense going at the end of the game, I’m just saying.”

“Well, this is a situation where Mike Shanahan, he sees these two quarterbacks on an everyday basis. … So he’s had a chance to observe.”

I love T.O. He says he “doesn’t want to start anything” and then proceeds to start something but throwing McNabb under the bus (yet again) for the Eagles’ Super Bowl loss to the Patriots. “I’m just saying.” We know you are, Terrell. We know you are.

And if Shanahan has “had a chance to observe” McNabb and Rex Grossman in practice and “observed” that Grossman was more fit to run his two-minute offense with the game on the line, then Shanahan should be fired immediately.

“I’m just saying.”

2010 NFL Week 9 Odds

Bucs (5-2) @ Falcons (5-2), 1:00PM ET
Who would have thought in preseason that the winner of this game would be in first place in the NFC South heading into the second half of the season? Raheem Morris rolled some eyes when he said that the Bucs were the best team in the NFC two weeks ago, but nobody will be laughing if they can beat the Falcons this Sunday. For his career, Matt Ryan has only lost once at the Georgia Dome (his rookie year against the Broncos) and Atlanta had the luxury of having last week off. Look for both of these teams to try and shove the ball down each others’ throats and allow their defense to win the game. Expect a steady dose of LeGarrette Blount and Michael Turner this week.
CURRENT ODDS: FALCONS –9

Dolphins (4-3) @ Ravens (5-2), 1:00PM ET
The Ravens are coming off a bye and the Dolphins are coming off yet another road win. Miami is now 4-0 on the road this season, which is amazing considering its 0-3 at home. The Joe Flacco-Anquan Boldin connection has been outstanding this year, but Baltimore would love to get Ray Rice more touches if he’s healthy (he’s battled nagging injuries for most of the year). The Dolphins are still searching for more consistency from quarterback Chad Henne, especially in the red zone. Brandon Marshall has 47 catches for 588 yards, but has only reached paydirt once. Henne may be able to take advantage of a Baltimore defense that has allowed 57 points in their last two games.
CURRENT ODDS: RAVENS –5

Colts (5-2) @ Eagles (4-3), 4:15PM ET
We’re going to find out just how good this Eagles team is when Peyton Manning comes to town this Sunday. Michael Vick should be back after suffering a rib injury several weeks ago, but the onus this weekend will be on Philly’s defense. Indy is depleted offensively, but Manning is a master at taking what the defense gives him and moving the ball methodically up the field. If the Eagles can’t figure out a way to control the clock and keep Manning on the sidelines, then they’re going to be in for a long afternoon. Philly needs a win to avoid dropping to .500 and perhaps multiple games behind the Giants in the NFC East.
CURRENT ODDS: EAGLES –2.5

Chiefs (5-2) @ Raiders (4-4), 4:15PM ET
Who would have thought that this game would be so important early in the year? The Raiders have won two straight by a combined score of 92-17, while the Chiefs struggled against the Bills but managed to come out victorious in order to improve to 5-2. Kansas City is just 1-2 on the road this year, while Oakland is 3-1 at home. If the Chiefs are for real, they have to be able to beat a divisional opponent on the road. The Raiders are hot, but they’re still the Raiders. Consistency is not one of their strong suits.
CURRENT ODDS: RAIDERS -3

2010 College Football Week 10 Odds

Dec 23, 2009, San Diego, CA, USA; Utah Utes players react after their 37-27 victory over the California Golden Bears in the 2009 Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium. Photo via Newscom

No. 3 TCU @ No. 5 Utah, 3:30PM ET
Let me get this straight. ABC is going to show Nebraska-Iowa State but not TCU-Utah? ESPN is going to show Illinois-Michigan but not TCU-Utah? ESPN3 is going to show Nevada-Idaho but not TCU-Utah? I’m sure there’s nothing these networks can do contractually to show what they want to show, but what a rip off for college football fans. This is the best game of the week and nobody outside of the Mountain West coverage areas will see it. Last year the Utes traveled to TCU and were gorilla-smacked 55-28. But two years ago in Utah, the Utes held the Horned Frogs to just 10 points in a 13-10 victory. Can Utah pull off the upset in their biggest home game of the year? Or can TCU use this game as a catalyst to get into the BCS title game should Oregon or Auburn (or Boise State for that matter) fall? In what will be the Utes last year in the MWC before they move to the Pac-12, this should be one heck of a bout.
CURRENT ODDS: TCU –4.5

No. 6 Alabama @ No. 10 LSU, 3:30PM ET
It’s rare that a huge SEC matchup like this takes a backseat to a Mountain West game, but with TCU and Utah playing this Saturday it’s easy to forget that Bama and LSU will square off. (Although not to SEC fans, of course.) Both teams are coming off bye weeks, although the Tide thumped Tennessee 41-10 two weeks ago and the Tigers fell to Auburn, 24-17. Alabama got the benefit of both Michigan State and Missouri losing last week and has now climbed back into title contention. A win over LSU this week on the road would catapult them into the top-5 because somebody will obviously lose between No. 4 TCU and No. 5 Utah. But they’ll have to get through LSU first, which is 14-1 under Les Miles while coming off a loss.
CURRENT ODDS: ALABAMA –6.5

No. 15 Arizona @ No. 13 Stanford, 8:00PM ET
This matchup features teams tied for second place in the Pac-10, as Stanford is off to its best start in 40 years and Arizona has the tools on defense to shut down Andrew Luck and the Cardinal offense. Stanford currently is fifth in the FBS in scoring at 42.4 points, while Arizona is seventh in the nation in scoring defense at 14.4 points. Something has to give. Luck completed 19-of-26 passes for 192 yards with a touchdown and also ran for a 51-yard score in a 41-0 beatdown of Washington last Saturday. The Wildcats, who are having their best season since 1998, tipped UCLA 29-21 last Saturday. Should be a great one in the Pac-10 this weekend.
CURRENT ODDS: STANFORD –9.5

No. 18 Arkansas @ No. 19 South Carolina, 7:00PM ET
It’ll be a battle of two-loss teams in the SEC when the Razorbacks travel to Williams-Brice Stadium to take on the Gamecocks. South Carolina is in a familiar situation, as this is the third time in four seasons in which the Gamecocks are 6-2. Of course, this is usually the point in the season when things go downhill for Steve Spurrier’s squad. They lost their final five games to finish 6-6 in 2007, their final three games in 2008 to finish 7-6 and four of five last year to finish 7-6. On the other side, Ryan Mallett just lost his best receiver Greg Childs for the season. Childs suffered a patella tendon injury against Vanderbilt last week and is now done for the year. He led the team with 46 catches for 659 yards and six touchdown receptions.
CURRENT ODDS: SOUTH CAROLINA –4

A very early look at the top 5 free agents in baseball

August 10, 2010: Tampa Bay Rays left fielder Carl Crawford ( ) during game action between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. The Rays defeated the Tigers 8-0.

The Giants haven’t been World Series Champions for 24 hours yet, but it’s never too early to take a look at which names will dominate the headlines this winter.

Here’s a very preliminary look at the top-5 free agents in baseball for 2011.

1. Carl Crawford, OF, Rays
Mark my words: The Yankees and Red Sox will be battling over this guy for the next couple of months. The Bombers could fall behind as they focus their attention on Cliff Lee, but you know their wallets are deep enough to best any offer that teams come to the table with for Crawford. There’s little to no chance he returns to Tampa next year and I fully expect him to man one of the outfields in either New York or Boston next season.

2. Cliff Lee, SP, Rangers
He probably cost himself a couple of million by throwing a 2-0 cutter in the zone to Edgar Renteria (who put it over the wall) in Game 5 of the World Series, but every team knows Lee is one of the best. And he’s certainly the best free agent pitcher on the market this offseason. Will he take the money and head up to the Big Apple or will he stay with the Rangers? Texas probably has a leg up, but it needs to put together a decent offer because in the end, money talks. The Yankees will do everything they can to get Lee in pinstripes next season.

3. Adrian Beltre, 3B, Red Sox
Beltre continues to be one of the best defensive third basemen in the league and he’s coming off a solid season in Boston. He has a player option for the 2011 season, but chances are he’ll move on and try to sign a multi-year deal elsewhere.

4. Jayson Werth, OF, Phillies
Personally, I think Werth is a tad overrated. I think he’s Aaron Rowand re-born and some team will foolishly overpay for his services. But he’s a middle-of-the-order power threat, so he’s worth the shot. The question is whether or not the Phillies pony up to retain him or if he heads off to greener pastures. Call it a hunch, but I think he stays in the NL.

5. Victor Martinez, C, Red Sox
The Tigers have already been linked to V-Mart, but the Red Sox could wind up re-signing him when it’s all said and done. At 32 his skills are declining but he’s a .300 lifetime hitter with a little pop, which is always big from the catcher’s position.

Other names to keep an eye on: Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Aubrey Huff, Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, Derrek Lee, Adam Dunn.

Where will Shawne Merriman wind up?

SAN DIEGO - AUGUST 14: Linebacker Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers works out before the game with the Chicago Bears on August 14, 2010 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. It’s official: Shawne Merriman is no longer a Charger after the team waived him on Tuesday.

Merriman, who passed his physical and is apparently healthy after dealing with calf and Achilles injuries for most of the year, must clear waivers before teams can bid on his services. The early indications are that the Dolphins, 49ers and Ravens could be interested in the outside ‘backer.

The Ravens would be an interesting choice because they could use another pass-rusher and Merriman could sit back and learn from guys like Ray Lewis. It’s veteran-led team that will certainly compete for a playoff spot this year (barring injuries, of course), so maybe Merriman would accept a third down role in order to be a part of a winner. Then, after the season, he and his agent could try to coax some team into giving him a multi-year deal (assuming he performs this year).

The Patriots would seemingly be a good fit for Merriman too, although that team never does what anyone thinks its going to do so who knows. They could definitely use a pass-rusher though.

It’ll be interesting to see if anyone takes a flier on the 26-year-old now that he’s supposedly healthy.

Update: The Bills acquired Merriman off waivers according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He won’t play in Week 9, however.
