Every week, I highlight a few players to start and a few players to sit at each position. I’m a firm believer in starting your studs, so I won’t suggest you bench Drew Brees or Adrian Peterson because they have tough matchups – just go ahead and keep them in your lineup. Instead, I’ll focus on the borderline guys – players you’ll only start under the right circumstances.

As usual, I’ll discuss these players within the context of my weekly positional rankings, so remember — everything is relative.

Matt Cassel has been on fire of late (12 TDs in his last four games) and he faces a Broncos defense that has allowed the third most points to opposing QBs this season. This one will probably be a shootout. Kyle Orton should also be a very nice start this week…Has Jay Cutler turned a corner? He has played pretty well (9 TDs, 3 INTs) since his Week 8 bye and has a good matchup with the Lions, who have yielded an average of 1.8 pass TDs per game this season…Mark Sanchez didn’t have a great game against the Bengals, but that was a barely mediocre matchup. This week, he has the Pats, who have been absolutely brutal against the pass (allowing the most fantasy points to opposing QBs this season).

Matt Forte has been pretty solid of late (243 yards in his last two games) and the Lions give up a lot of fantasy points to opposing RBs. He should have a big game…Felix Jones has had his ups and downs this season, but over the last three weeks he has 335 total yards and a TD. The Colts have struggled against the run for years, so Jones should be able to find a few running lanes on Sunday…Yes, Ryan Mathews is back, but I doubt he eats into Mike Tolbert‘s workload too much. Tolbert has been running like a madman and should get plenty of carries in a good matchup with Oakland’s suspect rush defense.

Look for Mario Manningham to have a big day against a Redskins defense that is 29th against the pass. With Nicks and Smith 2.0 still out, Manningham should have another nice outing…Santonio Holmes is hot (22-360-4 in his last four games) and has a matchup with the Patriots, who have been brutal against the pass this season…Don’t let HOU’s game against Rusty Smith fool you, the Texans can’t stop the pass. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin should go nuts tonight.

The Saints have been pretty tough against the pass this season (with just 0.6 pass TD allowed per game), and Carson Palmer has looked decidedly average against good competition this season. I wouldn’t bet on a big game…The Giants have the #1-ranked pass defense (though they do give up 1.3 pass TDs per game), so I don’t expect Donovan McNabb to put up big numbers this week. Maybe 225 yards and one TD…Brett Favre has thrown one TD in the last three games and the Vikings appear to be headed to a run-oriented offense centered around Adrian Peterson and/or Toby Gerhart. The Bills aren’t terrible against the pass, so Favre isn’t a shoe-in for a multiple-TD game this week.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis has three TDs in the last two games, but those were against Detroit and Indianapolis. This week he has the Jets, which are a totally different animal. They have allowed just 86 rushing yards per game and six rush TDs on the season…I have Ray Rice ranked in the mid-teens, which may seem low given how well he has played of late (averaging 136 total yards over the last four games), but the Steelers own the top-ranked rush defense and have allowed the second-fewest adjusted points to opposing RBs this season. Expect a decent game, not a great one…Even though he had a nice night against the Cardinals, I wouldn’t expect Brian Westbrook to set the world on fire against the Packers, who have only allowed five rushing TDs on the season. Westy is nursing a sore ankle and Anthony Dixon might be more involved than some people think.

Randy Moss has a great matchup (JAX), but I’d like to see some kind of production out of him before trusting him in my starting lineup at this point. He has just five catches in his last four games…Brandon Marshall is back, but the matchup is mediocre against the Browns — and let’s not forget that he hasn’t caught a TD pass since Week 3…The matchup could not be any better (literally), but Steve Smith 1.0 is a shaky start given the fact that Jimmy Clausen is his QB. He has just 10 catches in his last four games.
