Is Vincent Jackson’s career with the Chargers over?
Kevin Acce of the San Diego Union-Tribune hints that receiver Vincent Jackson may not play another down for the Chargers.
If Jackson is not signed by 3 p.m. Saturday, his Roster Exempt status means he will be out for six games. That won’t preclude a trade, because the trading deadline is the Tuesday after the sixth game. But his limited availability for 2010 will take down the compensation both Jackson and the Chargers could expect.
People close to Jackson have long indicated, despite rhetoric he was only interested in a multi-year deal — that he would play for a one-season contract that paid him in line with the top 10 receivers in the NFL. Maybe he’ll take that deal from another team, though that would likely bring down even further the price the Chargers could fetch in trade, because Jackson’s new team wouldn’t be assured of having him more than this season.
And, as we all know, Smith will not be compelled to make a trade he doesn’t feel is best for the Chargers.
Although not surprising with Smith in charge, it’s rather amazing how this situation continues to unravel. Last year, Jackson was arguably the most productive receiver in the NFL in terms of his pass catching, deep threat and run-blocking abilities. Now it appears that he may not play at all in 2010.
There’s still time for the two sides to come together on an agreement, but Jackson’s camp and Smith both appear to have dug their heels in long ago. If Jackson is going to play for the Bolts this season, one of the two sides will have to cave.
And that doesn’t appear to be likely.

This really sucks. I drafted him on a flier, thinking if he plays he’ll be a beast. I fucked up on WRs this year.
Dear Smith and Jackson.
Let’s both grow up, bite your tongues and sit down at a table to discuss this disaster now!!
I feel Jackson needs the Chargers as he has the Top Quarterback here with the Chargers and we all know how important that connection is in the NFL.
Smith and “his” Chargers need to get to the Super Bowl and without Jackson it will be a long, long and “if’ie” journey. Hands down, Jackson is the top Wide Receiver in the NFL and will enhance our prospect of making the End-of-Season and then the Super Bowl!!
If we can get the Palestinians and Israel to sit down at a table how difficult would it be to ge a G.M. and a Wide Receiver down at the same table to talk Football Now, not next week or at the start of week 10 but NOW??
Get them in the same room: lock the door and advise them they can only come out when a deal is conceived…food and water will be passed into the room on a limited basis!!
Beleive me it would work!!

Smith is all talk and no action he acks like HE OWNS the Chargers ,the Spanos family needs to Fire Smith today and Norv Turner and give the keys to Bill Cower. Smith has NEVER gave us the Super Bowl and we had the right players to do so but he only wants puppets like Norv that can’t finish.JACKSON is John Jefferson reborn he is the most exciting WR in the NFL and we need him .I do understand he wants to much but it’s probably because SMITH is a big C L O W N fire Smith hire Jackson & Cower and go win a Super Bowl.
Smith is a POS. It seams his only job is to make sure the Chargers are just good enough to get to the playoffs and watch them fail. If he was a real GM, there wouldn’t be so many problems in San Diego.
This is really a stupid situation. Smith seems to miss the boat way too often! Vincent isn’t helping himself either. A locked room makes more sense all the time! We deserve better than Smith and Jackson needs better advice! In fact, it wouldn’t be difficult whatsoever to improve upon what he being told! Both sides should compromise to the point of actually showing some good sense. What in the hell are Smith’s priorities, anyway! It’s a no brainier that Jackson want’s security – he’s earned the money and will likely get it somewhere – then where will we be? Smith needs to wake up or move on!
