      JaMarcus Russell is sippin’ on some sizzurp, sip, sippin’ sippin on some, sip

      The flush you just heard was whatever was left of JaMarcus Russell’s NFL career swirling down the toilet.

      According to the Mobile Press-Register, the massive bust was arrested on Monday afternoon for possession of a controlled substance, which was said to have been codeine syrup (i.e. Sizzurp).

      (Spokeswoman Lori) Myles said Russell was arrested at his home early this afternoon during an undercover investigation. Police did not find a prescription for the codeine during their search, Myles said.

      Other people were on the property, but Russell was the only one arrested, according to Myles.

      He was booked into Mobile Metro Jail at 4:22 p.m. Russell was released minutes later after making $2,500 bail, according to online records.

      Witnesses claim that when the police asked him to hand over the syrup, he fumbled it, picked it up and then overthrew the officers by 20 feet.

      Even before his arrest, he was overweight, lazy and highly ineffective on the field. Why any NFL team would even give him a tryout at this point is behind me. Hopefully Russell likes Canada, because the CFL is the only football this asshat will be playing anytime soon, although the UFL is also a possibility I suppose.

      I can’t wait for his agent to make a public announcement a couple of months from now saying how much Russell has turned his life around and is “in the best shape of his life.”

      Because you know it’s coming.

      LeBron trying to convince Bosh to join him in Cleveland

      According to Chris Broussard, LeBron is working behind the scenes to bring Chris Bosh to Cleveland.

      Raptors have told Cavs they would do a sign-and-trade with them for Bosh. Cavs and LeBron working to convince Bosh to join them in Cleveland

      This would be something of a no-brainer for LeBron. He gets to stay home and bring in a superstar sidekick.

      Bosh was rumored to be down on Cleveland, but Dan Gilbert is willing to spend and Byron Scott is a solid coach. With a sign-and-trade, Bosh would get that six-year max deal that he has reportedly been looking for.

      The thing that puzzles me is the Raptors’ motivation. Why would they agree to sign-and-trade Bosh within the conference? It’s one thing to ship him to Houston, but to actively help a conference rival build a possible dynasty is a little odd, especially considering what the Cavs have to offer. J.J. Hickson? Anderson Varejao? These guys are going to get it done?

      Nets owner has ‘no doubt’ Wade and Bosh will sign with the Heat

      According to notes obtained by ESPN.com, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in his final meeting with team brass that he felt certain that Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh would sign with the Heat.

      Also, regarding LeBron:

      On the conference call, he categorized the options he believes James has before him: The “hometown angle” of remaining with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

      The choice to play with Wade and Bosh in Miami, where James would have a “very high chance to win two or three titles” but where he could also “diminish the LeBron brand.”

      Hmmm.

      He also outlined the Nets’ strategy:

      First, he said they must get one or two of The Big Three to sign with New Jersey. If the Nets land James alone, he wants them to sign either Carlos Boozer or David Lee to play beside him. As the veterans lead the Nets to the playoffs, he expects the club’s young talent, most notably rookie lottery pick Derrick Favors, to grow and develop their games.

      The bit about diminishing “the LeBron brand” makes me wonder if these ‘notes’ were leaked on purpose. Maybe he’s trying to light a fire under LeBron and get him to go somewhere on his own. But it doesn’t appear likely that he’s going to sign with the Heat to play with Wade and Bosh, so if this were intentional, it was probably unnecessary as well.

      Each of LeBron’s potential landing spots has its own set of pros and cons. Chicago has a good supporting cast but the specter of Michael Jordan still lingers. Cleveland is home, but the roster is not championship-ready. Playing with two other stars in Miami is appealing, but the Heat have always been ‘Wade’s Team.’ The Knicks play in the biggest market, but the supporting cast isn’t up to snuff, and both Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler technically play the same position as LeBron.

      As for the Nets, they were miserable last season and will play in Newark for two more years, but they have new ownership, a new Brooklyn stadium in the works, a new coach, a future All-Star at center (Brook Lopez), a pretty good point guard (Devin Harris) and a good young prospect at power forward (Derrick Favors). Prokhorov also told LeBron that he’d continue to pursue a trade for his good friend Chris Paul.

      Also, Prokhorov sounds awfully certain that Wade and Bosh will sign with the Heat, but I’m sure there are some Miami fans sweating things out in South Florida as Wade weighs playing in Chicago.

      Report: Twins offer M’s two prospects for Lee

      According to Jeff Fletcher of AOL Fanhouse, the Twins have offered the Mariners prospects Aaron Hicks and Wilson Ramos for left-hander Cliff Lee, although the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the two clubs aren’t close to striking a deal.

      At first glance, it appears that the Twins are offering too much. Hicks was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and has a .792 OPS over three years in the minors. Ramos, although blocked by Joe Mauer at the big league level, has a .281 average over five seasons in the minors and reportedly has decent pop.

      If Fletcher’s report is true, then the Mariners would have a hard time rejecting the Twins’ offer. At 34-48 and currently sitting in last place in the AL West, Seattle is out of contention and is desperate for young bats. Lee also becomes a free agent at the end of the year and the M’s aren’t expected to retain him with a long-term contract so they have to get something for him at this year’s trade deadline or be out of luck.

      That said, the Mariners are going to take their time because they’ll have plenty of suitors for Lee. This would be one hell of an offer, but one would think that they would wait until closer to the deadline to move him in hopes that a desperate team overpays for his services.

      Besides, rumors like this are usually denied about 34 seconds after I get the post up, which really, really makes me happy.

      Former NHL enforcer Bob Probert passes away

      Former Redwing and Blackhawk enforcer Bob Probert passed away on Monday from an apparent heart attack while boating on Lake St. Clair.

      The Detroit Free Press shares the details.

      Probert’s father-in-law, Dan Parkinson, and a family friend, Rich Rogow, held a brief news conference at Windsor Regional Hospital.

      They said Probert, who turned 45 last month, suffered severe chest pains about 2 p.m. while boating with his wife, children and in-laws. Parkinson, a police officer, performed CPR on Probert. Emergency medical workers reached the scene and transported Probert to the hospital, where he could not be revived.

      “Bob lost the fight of his life this afternoon,” Parkinson said. “This is a tragedy for the family. We ask that you respect their privacy at this time.”

      Probert finished his career with 163 goals and 384 points but what he’ll most be remembered for is his 3,300 penalty minutes in 935 career games. He and his former “Bruise Brother” teammate Joe “Joey” Kocur often entertained fans with their style play, as well as their penchant for throwing blows on the ice.

      My condolences go out to Probert’s family and friends.
