      Presumably, Lunardi is factoring in Illinois’ loss to Wisconsin on Sunday. The two teams play again on Friday in the #4/#5 game of the Big Ten Tournament, so if the Illini lose again, it will be interesting to see if they still get a tourney nod. I think they’ll need a win against the Badgers to stay alive.

      Przybilla re-injures knee…in shower

      Talk about bad luck in Portland. The Blazers’ injured players are getting more injured.

      Per Real GM…

      Joel Przybilla re-injured his surgically-repaired right knee on Saturday and will require another surgery, the team said Sunday.

      Przybilla re-injured the knee when he slipped while entering the shower at his home in Milwaukee.

      Tough break for Przybilla — I guess he should have invested in one of those no-slip shower mats.

      Grizzlies owner: “We’ve got the best front line in basketball.”

      When asked about potentially re-signing Rudy Gay, Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley made a bold statement:

      Q. Will you re-sign Rudy Gay, who is a restricted free agent this summer?

      A. I feel we’re going to sign him. I don’t know what else you want me to say. Rudy is an outstanding player. He fits our team well. We’ve got the best front line in basketball.

      The Grizzlies’ front line consists of Rudy Gay (20-6-2), Zach Randolph (21-12-2) and Marc Gasol (15-9-2). Good? Absolutely. The best in basketball? I don’t know.

      Let’s see…

      Cavs? (LeBron, Jamison, Shaq)
      Celtics? (Pierce, KG, Perkins)
      Hawks? (J. Johnson, J. Smith, Horford)
      Lakers? (Artest, Gasol, Bynum…Odom)

      Would you take the Grizzlies over any of those other front lines? I’m not a big believer in Randolph, so I might be a little biased. The Cavs and C’s are older, but I’d certainly take those front lines over the Grizzlies’ for one or two seasons. And as far as young front lines go, I think the Hawks have the best in the league.

      Eagles to keep all three quarterbacks?

      It appears that the Eagles are fine with the possibility of keeping Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick on their roster for the 2010 season.

      ESPN.com is reporting that the Eagles will pick up Vick’s $1.5 million roster bonus, which is due on Tuesday. That means unless a team makes Philly an offer they can’t refuse, it looks like Vick will have to wait another to become a starter.

      That said, the Rams, Bills and Raiders still have plenty of time to make a move for Vick. It’s hard to believe that the Eagles would pass on a fourth round pick if one were offered to them, especially considering Vick will become a free agent next year and they won’t get anything for him if he signs elsewhere. It doesn’t make sense for the Eagles not to acquire compensation for a quarterback they’re not even using, but it’s wise that they’re playing their cards close to their chest right now.

      As far as McNabb and Kolb are concerned, it appears that the Eagles will hang onto both players unless they’re offered a first round pick for either of them. And even then, they may ultimately decide that they want to see how the 2010 season plays out before deciding what they want to do in 2011.

      Lions get good value in trade for Chris Houston

      While the deal isn’t official yet, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Lions are on the verge of acquiring cornerback Chris Houston from the Falcons in exchange for their sixth round pick. In addition, the two teams would also swap selections in the fifth round.

      The Falcons drafted Houston out of Arkansas with the 41st overall pick (second round) in the 2007 draft in hopes that he would pair with DeAngelo Hall to form a formidable duo in their secondary. But Hall was traded the following year and despite having the opportunity to gain extensive playing time as a starter, Houston just hasn’t been an ideal fit in Atlanta.

      In Detroit, Houston will be able to play more press coverage, which should suit him better than the zone scheme that the Falcons run. He’s extremely athletic and if he can get his hands on a receiver at the line, he can be a decent cover corner. The problem is that he has massive issues trying to find the ball once it’s in the air and struggles playing in space, which is why he isn’t a fit in zone coverage. Still, he has all the athletic tools to succeed and if he winds up fulfilling his talent, he could be a solid No. 2 in the league.
