2010 BCS National Championship Official Smack Talk Thread: Texas vs. Alabama

The 2010 BCS National Championship Game pits No. 1 vs. No. 2, as the Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Texas Longhorns on January 7. To get you primed for the game, here’s a snapshot look at the title match.
2010 BCS National Championship Game Information:
Matchup: Alabama (13-0) vs. Texas (13-0)
Venue: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
Kickoff: 8:00PM ET
TV: ABC
Odds: Alabama –5
Key Stats:
Led by quarterback Colt McCoy and receiver Jordan Shipley, the Longhorns have the third best scoring offense in the nation, the 14th best passing attack and are ranked 19th in total offense. McCoy is 10th in total offense with 296.92 passing yards per game and 26.77 rushing YPG. Defensively, the Longhorns boast the No. 1 rush defense in the country and are ranked No. 3 in total defense. Texas also ranks ninth in turnover margin and fourth in kickoff returns.
Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide have the second best defense in the nation and the second best run defense. Junior linebacker Rolando McClain has been the soul of Alabama’s defense, racking up over 100 tackles (51 solo), 10 tackles for loss and four sacks. Offensively, Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram heads a rushing offense that ranks 12th in the country and is 26th in scoring. Ingram is averaging close to 120 yards per game and has racked up 1,542 total yards of offense and 18 total touchdowns.
The Bottom Line:
After struggling with consistency for much of the season, quarterback Greg McElroy looks to build off a solid performance in the SEC title game and carry it into the national championship. While Ingram remains the backbone of the offense, McElroy might be the key to whether or not ‘Bama is victorious on January 7. He, and the Crimson Tide defense of course. And much like McElroy, fellow signal caller Colt McCoy will have to perform much better than he did against Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship for Texas to be successful. This will be the first time since time since the 2005 thriller between Texas and USC that two unbeaten teams square off in the title game. Who will come out on top?

Find out what OU did last year vs an SEC defense
It looks pretty even in the voting so far. I think the game is a toss-up, so perhaps taking Texas and the points makes most sense.
When was the last time Alabama beat Texas? hmm… I thought so… Hook’em Horns! I’ll see y’all Bama loosers in Pasadena next week
TEXAS FIGHT!
Hey Tex,
Hope you are watching the Sugar Bowl? Are you getting nervous? And for that comment about “the last time” everything thing has a first! Don’t forget that Rose Bowl were winning!
Florida destroyed Cincy, so that has to make Bama fans feel good. That said, both teams here are very physical. I think it boils down to McCoy. We’ll find out just how good he is against Alabama’s defense.
I agree with gerado. but i think it will be up to both McCoy and McElroy on who wins. both defenses are great. im picking texas, but i wouldnt be suprised if bama wins.both are deserving. texas by 3.

HOOKEM!!
alabama all american lb out with stomach virus
The past has absolutely nothing to do with this game, if Bama plays the kind of football they are capable of, It won’t even be close!
As much as I admire and respect Mack Brown and what he has done at Texas, I don’t think that this game will be that close. Alabama is the 900lb. gorilla of 2009…..Florida is every bit as good as Texas and you saw what happened to Florida here in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Texas stumbled into this game by squeaking past a mid-level team with no offense. ‘Bama by two scores or more.
come on joe. really? thats the philosophy of every team. we get it you love your team. me to. but anybody who watched college football and actually studied it a bit this year, knows this will not be a blow out game or even a two touchdown win. the odds, the numbers and the play of both teams suggests that it will be decided by seven or less. but thats just my opinion.
hook em

it will be all on colt McCoy if he gets his mind right they are done so lets see who is talkin after this game or sorry this blow out texas is bout to give to bama
HOOK EM’ HORNS GO ORANGE BABY
I don’t understand these espn analyst. Do they not see that Texas has as good a defense as Bama and maybe even a little bit faster. Do they also not understand the athletes on offense and special teams for Texas? If you are judging Texas because of the Nebraska game you must not follow college ball much because I know of 2 games bama struggled in and should have probably lost. So I know this game will come down to the wire, and the bama fans who think this will be a blowout just use some sense you sound stupid. HOOK EM!
I like Bama in this game as I said above, but Texas has a real shot. If McCoy plays great, look out!
I remember when EVERYONE said Ohio State had no shot against Miami in 2002. Unfortunately, I also remember when the Buckeyes were big favorites against Florida.
I’m taking Alabama and laying the points, but nothing would surprise me.
WOOOO baby here we go! bama could barely beat tenessee so lets see how the shouldnt-have-even-won-the-heisman winner will do against the #1 ranked defense.
Interesting game. Bama was pretty fortunate to escape this one. Too bad for McCoy – he’s a classy kid.
