Selig to reinstate Hank Aaron as home run king?
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig apparently isn’t ruling out the idea of stripping Barry Bonds of the home run record and giving it back to Hank Aaron.
For the first time Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has said he would consider a move to strip Barry Bonds of his record for all-time home runs, according to a report.
Christine Brennan of USA Today called on Selig to alter baseball’s record book and reinstate Aaron as the official record-holder for the most career home runs. Aaron hit 755 in 23 seasons. Bonds broke Aaron’s record in 2007, and with his career seemingly over, he has 762 in 22 seasons.
In a telephone interview with Brennan on Wednesday, Selig said of altering the record book: “Once you start tinkering, you can create more problems. But I’m not dismissing it. I’m concerned. I’d like to get more evidence.”
Attempts to reach Selig and Aaron on Thursday evening were unsuccessful.
Not to rain on anyone’s parade here because there’s nothing I’d love to see more than the home run title go back to its rightful owner, but Selig can’t do anything to the record with Bonds never officially being tied to steroids. We can speculate all we want, but Bonds has never officially tested positive for any performance-enhancing drug and even if he did, there was no penalty against players using steroids until 2004. (We can all thank the previously mentioned Bud Selig for that.)
That said, if Selig were able to reinstate Hammerin’ Hank as the rightful owner of the home run record, then maybe it would be a small step in bringing purity back to the game of baseball, which has been dragged through the mud over the past decade. Then again, with this seemingly daunting task left in Selig’s hands, we can probably forget about the record ever going back under Aaron’s name.

i am so tired of this whole fiasco. for twenty years mlb allowed the use of steroids. i know i played.and now when it comes out selig and major league base ball as a whole wants to throw out records and the players who define the era under the bus?what a bunch of hypocritical cowards.symbolizing the worst of american society which is we can all do wrong but only some have to pay.players who used steroids should not have their records and whole careers erased. bonds for example if he did use steroids did so at the twilight of his hall of fame career. same for clemmens.they gave over twenty years of their life to a game that now wants to regard them as accursed.if you want to fairly rep. this era then let the record showw from 1986 to 20003 major league baseball allowed steroid use and probably enhanced the performance and records of some.i played and didnt use roids but i dont care if others did it was their choice and risk [health] in an era that condoned it and encouraged it.then because of all the ambiguity of what was and what wasnt a steroid at the time passing judgement to totally condenm anyone is wrong and selfrighteous.tow more points. i wish people x-players, fans and the media would stop acting like baseball is so hollowed.it is a game played by imperfect people. it is not a holy institution to be worshipped. it has always had flaws and sins. from blatant bigotry towards minorities. just think how the record books would be changed if blacks and latinos could have played before the 50’s.to bat corking.to spit balls. to other forms of stimulants and drugs.secondly i wish all these players who have been implicated would stop grobbling ,sobbing ,and crying. admit your guilt to the level you are responsible and move on. tell all these media moralist to go somewhere hot.thats the only ones i respect in this whole thing is canseco, mac, bonds and clemmens. their the only ones who have been implicated and have the testicals to stand their ground ,take the ridicule and maintain their dignity.all i have to say to them is. its the bottm of the ninth the bases are loaded your tem=am needs a win.hold your head up and stare the opposition in the eye and give em hell. your already a winner
ak thrower: That’s a strange post; you say you ’wish all these players who have been implicated would stop grobbling, sobbing, and crying. admit your guilt ….’, but then you go on to say the only ones you respect in this whole thing is canseco, mac, bonds, and clemmens. Other than canseco, none of these guys has manned up and admitted their use of PEDs. They continue to state their innocence despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, and expect us to think that PEDs never had anything to do with their extraordinary performances. These are the ones I have the very least respect for. Not only are they cheaters, but big liars to boot. So how is it that they are the ones to earn your respect?
They are not cheaters, they are the best at what they did, and it wasn’t against MLB rules at the time. YOU NEED TO KEEP THAT IN MIND!
Bonds will never be stripped of his title, and now that AROD has admitted using PEDs, if he passes Bonds, what do you do then? It’s a slippery slope that should not be trudged upon any longer!
And the overwhelming proof that Aaron didn’t use any drugs or PED’s is…?
