Rick Pitino paid for mistress’s abortion
Louisville coach Rick Pitino told police that he had consensual sex with and paid for an abortion for the woman who has been charged with trying to extort him, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported on Tuesday.
Karen Cunagin Sypher was federally charged in April with demanding cars, tuition for her children and finally $10 million. Police interviewed Pitino, who is married, regarding the incident last month, and according to the newspaper, he said that he gave the woman $3,000 to have an abortion.
Police records obtained by the Courier-Journal show that Pitino said he had sex with the then Karen Cunagin at a Louisville restaurant where he had been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003. He denied Cunagin Sypher’s allegations that he raped her at the restaurant and then again later at a different location.
A couple of weeks later, Cunagin Sypher called Pitino and told him she was pregnant.
They arranged to meet at the condominium of Louisville strength coach Tim Sypher, whom she did not know at that time but would later marry.
Sypher and Cunagin Sypher are now estranged and divorce proceedings have begun.
Regarding the alleged rape…
In one of her interviews, Cunagin Sypher did not disclose that there was a witness to the event at the restaurant, Vinnie Tatum, an executive assistant to Pitino. According to Abbott’s report, Tatum said he didn’t see what happened but heard “only the sounds of two people that seemed to be enjoying themselves during a sexual encounter.”
Pitino does not plan to take a leave of absence from coaching at Louisville.
This women as anyone can see is a oppurtunist. i bet it comes out that she extorted the money for the abortion and she wasnt preganant. Pitino is no saint in all of this and he should be ashamed of his actions but he got played.
As a resident of Louisville and a parent of students at UofL, I am appalled by Coach Pitino’s actions. What ever happened to wanting to have classy, honorable men in leadership? He is a horrible example for young men!
Coach Pitino made the staement that if he could survive Sept 11th 2001 he could survive anything. I don’t remember Pitino being in one of the Twin Towers in Manhatan on that terrible day but I do remember his wife’s brother beeing there and never found.
I find his analogy quite hypocritical. On the one hand he has made reference that losing the life of his brother-in -law and best friend was terrible but on the other hand he brutaly murdered his own biolgical child with the abortion he paid for. This act is just as revolting as any terrorist bombing a building .
As usual the world will work its double standard for the rich and famous. Nothing they do other than cruelity to dogs or chickens ever brings very little ridicule to them. They seem to always manage reinvent themselves and we foolishly start worshiping them all over again
I find it interesting that much of America cannot forgive Michael Vick for making dogs fight, yet seem to think of abortion (which can quite easily be argued as murder from many perspectives) as something that’s okay.
I’m not saying we don’t all sin. We do.
What bothers me is when we mislabel sin.
What will be even more interesting is how quickly Pitino will be forgiven when he starts winning.
pitino is a fool. a total jackass who deserves everything he gets. his wife should leave and leave fast so that she can live happily ever after with her kids. nice job pitino… u destroyed ur whole life for some washed up nastly little c*nt.
