      Fantasy Football Consultant Nathan Zegura chats with The Scores Report

      Las Vegas.

      If at least two of those three things don’t grab your attention, then maybe it’s time for you to turn in your man card.

      The second annual Fantasy Football SUPERDRAFT will be held at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on August 26-28 this year and will include a concert by Snoop Dogg, a Draft Room for fantasy football fans, VIP parties hosted by Stacy Keibler and a live celebrity draft conducted by Ashton Kutcher.

      Nathan Zegura, the founder of TheFantasyConsultant.com and the host of “The Fantasy Consultant Live” on SiriusXM’s new Fantasy Sports Channel, joined us recently to chat up this year’s Fantasy Football SUPERDRAFT, as well as provide details on how you can attend. (You’ll probably be shocked at how very little it’ll cost you to soak in a fantasy football-filled weekend with Snoop, Stacy Keibler and Ashton Kutcher in Vegas.)

      We also couldn’t allow Nathan to get off the phone without picking his brain about this year’s upcoming fantasy season, so we asked him what his top 5 looks like, who his top 3 sleepers are and what kind of expectations we could have for players like Frank Gore and Michael Turner.

      The Scores Report: Hi, this is Anthony.

      Nathan Zegura: Hey Anthony, this is Nathan Zegura calling in.

      TSR: Hey Nathan, how are you today, man?

      NZ: I’m doing great – how are you doing?

      TSR: I’m doing well. I’m just reading over this Fantasy Football SUPERDRAFT deal and I’m blown away. I’m trying to figure out a way I can go!

      NZ: You gotta go! All you have to do is go to FantasySuperDraft.com, baby!

      TSR: (Laughs)

      NZ: It’s awesome – I went last year actually. It was cool, I was one of the experts that were asked to be on-site last year and it’s an awesome event. It’s a great time, great parties and, in addition to being able to do your draft and have all your boys there, you also get to do things in Vegas that you wouldn’t otherwise do for a grand total of $125 over the course of three days.

      TSR: (Laughs) Sure.

      NZ: I actually became pretty good friends with Eric Simon, who is the guy that started SUPERDRAFT. It was kind of his brainchild and it’s been very neat to see it grow and see it get to where it is this year. It’s going to be awesome with Snoop, Stacy Keibler (photo left)…they’re having a model search there – it’s going to be crazy. I can’t even wait until the end of August – I’m fired up.

      TSR: Like I said, I was reading over this and my eye caught that Snoop and, well, my eye caught that Stacy Keibler was going to be there actually, but it’s amazing the entertainers that you guys got to come out this year. And it’s all centered around fantasy football, which has grown into this unbelievable vehicle now for entertainment.

      NZ: Totally. Eric’s vision for SUPERDRAFT is to bring entertainment and sports together in the perfect place, which is Las Vegas. Ashton Kutcher is actually my partner and he owns half of my website, TheFantasyConsultant.com. I was able to bring Ashton and Eric together on the SUPERDRAFT idea, so we’re going to do a live broadcast of our show, which is “Fantasy Football Live” in addition to the various parties that are going to be there. And then obviously Snoop, who I personally as a kid who grew up in California, am very excited about.

      Should the Falcons sign T.O.?

      D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution posed the question of whether or not the Falcons should sign free agent wideout Terrell Owens.

      Here’s my answer: Why is this even a question?

      The Falcons’ receiving corps is somewhat a concern heading into the season. Roddy White is a stud, but Michael Jenkins has proven to be more of a blocker than a pass catcher and Harry Douglas is coming off major knee surgery. Behind them is the aging Brian Finneran, special teamer Eric Weams and fifth round pick Kerry Meier (who essentially is a younger Finneran in the making).

      On the surface, it might make sense to throw T.O. in the mix. On paper, giving Matt Ryan White, T.O. and Tony Gonzalez to play with might make sense. Besides, the Falcons would only sign Owens to a one-year deal, so if it didn’t work they could move on after the year and not think twice about it.

      But let’s not forget that the Falcons’ strength is actually running the ball with Michael Turner, Jason Snelling and Jerious Norwood (for the 11 plays he gets a year). Adding T.O. doesn’t make much sense given Douglas’ potential, Ryan’s familiarity with White and Gonzalez, and yes, even Jenkins’ blocking ability. (Fans like to rag on Jenkins for not being much of a receiver, but he’s by far their best blocker and that holds value for a team that often likes to set the tone with their ground game.)

      While I applaud Ledbetter for trying to drum up conversation now that OTAs are underway, this topic should be put to rest immediately. T.O. won’t be a Falcon. It isn’t worth it for the team to sacrifice Douglas’ development in the offense and who knows what would happen if Ryan didn’t get Owens the ball enough. Atlanta just doesn’t need a potential distraction like that, especially with Ryan heading into his third year.

      Turner due for a bounce back year in 2010?

      Michael Turner didn’t want to hear about the “Curse of 370” heading into last season, but after ankle injuries limited him to only 871 yards on 178 carries, it appears as though “the Burner” is well aware of the damages a full workload can have on a running back.

      And so are the Falcons.

      Turner recently admitted that he fell out of shape last offseason, which may have contributed to his slow start. Turner didn’t really resemble the ’08 version of himself until a Week 8 Monday night effort against the Saints in which he rushed for 151 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown. Until that point, Turner didn’t appear to be hitting holes with much authority and even looked slow at times.

      But Turner apparently learned a lesson from last offseason, because he reported to a recent Falcons mini-camp in great shape according to several reports. Head coach Mike Smith was even quoted as saying his running back was in “outstanding shape” and was moving “extremely well” in his first day back. That’s great news for Turner, the Falcons and a handful of fantasy owners that were burned (no pun intended) by the running back’s production (or lack thereof) last season.

      Falcons’ Gonzalez to play in 2010

      The Falcons’ official website confirmed on Wednesday that Tony Gonzalez will be back in 2010, which is obviously good news for Atlanta. Gonzo caught 83 passes for 867 yards and six touchdowns in the Falcons’ run-heavy offense this season, proving that the 34-year-old can still play at an elite level.

      Atlanta traded a second round pick in this year’s draft to acquire Gonzalez from Kansas City last offseason. He’s under contract for the next two seasons but I imagine that the veteran is taking things year by year now. The Falcons would love for him to finish out the remainder of his contract in Atlanta, but who knows what his decision will be after next season.

      Due to injuries to Michael Turner and Matt Ryan, the Falcons’ offense wasn’t as explosive as many thought it would be entering the season. Turner also got off to a slow start, forcing offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey to rely more on the passing game instead of beating teams with a balanced approach. That was fine until Ryan started to struggle, then inconsistency became a huge problem for Atlanta. The offense also had to deal with injuries to the receiving corps, as Roddy White was hobbled all season (although he never missed a game) and promising youngster Harry Douglas suffered a knee injury in training camp and never played a snap.

      Now that Gonzalez is committed to 2010 and assuming Ryan, Turner, White and Douglas can return to full health, things once again look promising for the Falcons’ offense. Now GM Thomas Dimitroff must concentrate on adding more talent to a young defensive squad so Atlanta can challenge for a playoff spot again next season.

      2009 NFL Week 14 Point Spreads & Odds

      Here’s a look at this weekend’s action in the NFL.

      Steelers (6-6) at Browns (1-11), 8:20PM ET Thursday
      The defending champs have lost four in a row and now face a must-win against division rival Cleveland on the road. The Browns have only won one game this season, but Brady Quinn has thrown seven touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last three outings. If the Steelers overlook the Browns like they overlooked the Raiders last week, then they can kiss their playoff hopes goodbye.
      Odds: Steelers -10.

      Saints (12-0) at Falcons (6-6), 1:00PM ET
      The Falcons’ postseason hopes are on life support thanks to a shoddy defense and a slew of injuries on the offensive side of the ball. The Saints have set their eyes on perfection, so if Matt Ryan and Michael Turner are unable to go, things could get ugly inside the Georgia Dome this Sunday.
      Odds: Saints -10.5.

      Packers (8-4) at Bears (5-7), 1:00PM ET
      All the Packers have to do is avoid a late-season collapse and they’ll make the playoffs. Green Bay must avoid having a letdown after beating Baltimore on Monday night. Chicago is never an easy place to play in December, even when the Bears are struggling like they are now.
      Odds: Packers -3.

      Broncos (8-4) at Colts (12-0), 1:00PM ET
      A trip to Indianapolis is the last thing the Broncos need right now while chasing the Chargers in the AFC West. But if they can knock off the undefeated Colts, they should be able to carry that momentum the rest of he season and at least clinch a Wild Card berth.
      Odds: Colts -7.5.

      Bengals (9-3) at Vikings (10-2), 1:00PM ET
      The game of the week is in Minnesota this Sunday, as the Vikings host the best surprise in 2009, the Bengals. The Vikings will be looking to rebound from their loss to the Cardinals last Sunday, while the Bengals have their eyes set on clinching the division. Carson Palmer vs. Brett Favre should be incredibly entertaining.
      Odds: Vikings -6.5.
