Is Michael Beasley’s stock at an all-time low?

It would appear so, assuming this Nets Daily report is true.

Jason Smith of ESPN Radio’s “NBA Today” podcast reports that an NBA general manager told him the Heat offered Michael Beasley to the Nets for Keyon Dooling and “Rod Thorn turned them down”. Smith described Thorn’s decision as yet another indication of how badly the Heat want to get rid of Beasley.

While the deal certainly would have reduced the Nets’ cap space (by about $4.5 million). The Nets are on the hook for about $20 million heading into free agency, so they theoretically have about $36 million that they could spend. If they struck this deal, that number would have dropped to about $31.5 million, which would make it a little bit tougher to squeeze two “max” free agents under the cap.

The Nets may wait to see how free agency goes before acquiring Beasley, but another team might step in and take him off the Heat’s hands. Miami wants to move him so they can create enough cap space to sign two max free agents plus re-sign Dwyane Wade.

As for Beasley, he averaged 15-6 in about 30 minutes a game. His PER (16.16) was above average, even if it dropped from his rookie season (17.28). I’m surprised to see that his stock is so low that the Heat can’t even seem to give him away.

Rumor: Izzo interviewing with the Bulls

Brandon LaChance over at Bulls Home says he has a source that says Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo is interviewing with the Bulls today.

From an anonymous source from within the Tom Izzo camp, I have been informed that Tom Izzo will be interviewing today for the Chicago Bulls head coaching vacancy.

I’m not sure why he put the word “anonymous” in there. Is the source anonymous to LaChance or anonymous to us? If it’s the former, someone could have just emailed the site and claimed he was in “Izzo’s camp” and knew about the interview.

If it’s the latter and LaChance knows the name of the source and can verify that he’s an Izzo confidant, then this story could very well be true.

There is a long list of very successful college coaches that have struggled on the NBA level. Larry Brown is the only coach to win a title at both levels.

That said, Izzo is a very good coach and is smart enough to learn from the mistakes of others. However, he won’t have the benefit of the stability of the Spartan program or his ability to out-recruit his competition.

More on this story/rumor as it develops.

Wednesday afternoon update: I contacted Brandon LaChance and confirmed that the source is known to him, but doesn’t want his name revealed.

LeBron: Cleveland “does have an edge” in signing him

LeBron James sat down for an interview with Larry King and CNN.com released a snippet of their conversation:

King: Do you lean at all toward the place you know the best? I mean do they have an edge going in…

JAMES: Oh, absolutely.

KING: …your home team?

JAMES: Absolutely. Because, you know, this city, these fans, I mean, have given me a lot in these seven years. And, you know, for me, it’s comfortable. So I’ve got a lot of memories here. And – and so it does have an edge.

Hmm. I was expecting LeBron to be a little more coy when answering a question like this to avoid giving false hope to his fans in Cleveland. But by saying — “absolutely…[Cleveland] does have an edge” — it will definitely raise hopes of Cavs fans everywhere.

The interview will air Friday night at 9 PM ET.

Everyone waiting on LeBron?

Carlos Boozer thinks so, per the South Florida Sun-Sentinel

“The summer is going to get kicked off in free agency wherever LeBron goes,” Boozer said. “Once he decides what he’s going to do for the rest of his career, it will be easy for the rest of us to figure out what we’re going to do.”

Since LeBron pretty much has his pick of teams, will he make his decision quickly so that free agency can get moving or will he hold the entire league hostage, basking in his own ego all of the attention?

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the second-tier free agents — think David Lee or Rudy Gay — sign quickly if LeBron drags his feet and they’re made “an offer they can’t refuse” by a team that knows they’re not a player in the LeBron sweepstakes.

Side note: Does Boozer regret leaving Cleveland? Had he stayed, there’s a pretty good chance that the Cavs have a title by now…right?
