Bulls land Boozer

Per ESPN.com…

Carlos Boozer is the latest domino to fall, agreeing to a five-year, $80 million contract with the Chicago Bulls, a source close to the negotiations told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher on Wednesday.

Looks like the Bulls read my post-Wade/Bosh offseason blueprint. This is a big contract that averages $16 million per season, but as John Hollinger notes, there’s enough room to sign LeBron outright on the off chance that he utters “the Bulls” tomorrow night.

$80 mil deal has cap figure of $13.8M, which should leave juuuuust enough for LBJ if no cap surprise tonite. S&T drops 1st year to $13.2M.

Bulls fans can’t say the team didn’t react quickly to the Wade/Bosh news. Signing Boozer would seemingly put the Bulls back in the picture for LeBron, but even if it doesn’t, it was the next logical move for a franchise with cap space and a need for low post scoring. He will be a nice fit alongside a defensive, offensively-challenged center like Joakim Noah. He will also fare well in the pick-and-roll with Derrick Rose after running so many with Deron Williams over the years.

One down, three to go: Jets re-sign Ferguson

So much for the notion that the Jets don’t take care of their own.

On Wednesday, New York agreed to terms with left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson on a six-year, $60 million extension, which also includes $34.8 million in guarantees. Da Brick will receive $73.6 million over the next either years, which exceeds the five-year, $57 million deal that the Dolphins gave former No. 1 overall pick Jake Long.

Along with Long and Cleveland’s Joe Thomas, Ferguson is among the best left tackles in the league and it was vital for the Jets to keep him in New York. But while fans can sleep a little easier tonight knowing that Ferguson will be around for a long time, GM Mike Tannenbaum still has plenty of work cut out for him.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis, center Nick Mangold and linebacker David Harris are all still seeking extensions themselves. Tannenbaum will likely turn to Revis next, seeing as how the cornerback will probably receive the richest contract in Jets history (at least on a per year basis).

Whether or not new deals are on their way for Revis, Mangold and/or Harris, it’s nice to see that the player who didn’t openly complain to the media got paid first. Ferguson has been a total professional this entire offseason and he was just handsomely rewarded for it. Maybe Revis should take some notes.

Spain defeats Germany, 1-0, advances to World Cup Final

Spain had the right combination of ball control and creativity to upend the coolly efficient Germans, 1-0, and advance to play the Netherlands in Sunday’s World Cup Final.

The game-winner came in the 73rd minute, when Carles Puyol came from waaaay outside to head the cornerkick into the net. Germany threatened a few times, but Spain controlled the ball for much of the game and kept the Germans under nearly constant pressure.

Sunday’s matchup between Spain and the Netherlands means that we’ll have a new winner this year.

“Everything You Think You Know About Mike Tyson is Wrong”

That’s the title of the Details interview with the man, the myth, the enigma that is Mike Tyson.

Here’s the first question:

Details: Twenty years ago, you were one of the most famous men on the planet. Is there a big plan for Act 2?

Mike Tyson: The first stage of my life was just a whole bunch of selfishness. Just a whole bunch of gifts to myself and people who didn’t necessarily deserve it. Now I’m 44, and I realize that my whole life is just a fucking waste. “Greatest man on the planet”? I wasn’t half the man I thought I was. So if there’s a big plan now, it’s just to give—it’s selflessness, caring for the people who deserve it. Because I think I’m a pig. I have this uncanny ability to look at myself in the mirror and say, “This is a pig. You are a fucking piece of shit.”

That’s quite a start. Read the rest of the interview here.

Tea leaves point to LeBron signing with the Knicks?

We can file these in the ‘for what it’s worth’ category…

Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer shared the location of LeBron’s “Decision Show” on his Twitter feed:

Newsday is reporting LeBron will do show from Greenwich, CT. Guess technically it’s not New York, just a suburb.

FWIW, I have been told several times location is not indication of decision. But this whole thing is shades of gray.

CNBC reports MSG (Knicks parent) stock futures way up today. Trading of it has tripled.

It would be strange for LeBron to announce in a NY suburb that he’s going to re-sign with the Cavs. Then he’d miss out on all the adulation from his fans in Ohio. This seems to indicate that he’s headed to New York or New Jersey. The bit about MSG is probably the most compelling sign. Follow the money…follow the money…

From Jared Dudley’s Twitter feed:

Sources tell me LeBron will announce that he will be goin’ to the Knicks tomorrow on ESPN. This is serious.

That’s what I’m hearing.. I don’t care where he goes lol.. I personally thought he would stay in Cleveland..

I wonder if his source is Amare Stoudemire, his former teammate.

And really for what it’s worth, Chad Ochocinco chimes in as well:

*Empire State of Mind* *wink* *wink*only the smart folk will put this together and figure out what i am talking about #6

Then there’s Ric Bucher, who throws some cold water on the idea:

Rumors of NYK having legit shot at LeBron or him going to Mia seem like an attempt by LRMR to create suspense for Thurs show.

An NBA exec: “Who does a 1-hour special on how you just ripped the heart out of your hometown?” Now a 1-hr special on why you stayed…

The Knicks have always been the biggest upside/downside for LeBron. If he’s able to bring a title to New York, he will effectively own the city. With Amare Stoudemire already locked up, he has an All-NBA running mate and in Mike D’Antoni, he has a coach who can make best use of his considerable skills in the open court.

Of course, if Dudley’s source is mistaken, the location of the ESPN announcement and Ochocinco’s tweet could also mean LeBron’s headed to the Nets. (Jay-Z wrote “Empire State of Mind.”) Would LeBron diss good friend Jay-Z and sign with the Knicks?

What are the odds that this is all stays hush hush through tomorrow?
