Putting a great upset in context

16-seed UMBC beating No. 1 Virginia was one hell of an upset, but naturally everyone tries to make it even bigger or more significant than it is. UMBC deserves a ton of credit. It was an amazing upset. But can we stop with all the “Miracle on Ice” and Buster Douglas comparisons?

A win by a 16-seed was inevitable. I’m frankly shocked it took this long.

Nobody gave UMBC a chance, and I love seeing them enjoy their moment in the sun. But our tendency to try to rank every great achievement sometimes gets to be ridiculous.

Eagles outlast Patriots for epic Super Bowl victory

The NFL has had a rough year, but the league keeps delivering with incredible Super Bowl games and great finishes. Last night was no different as Nick Foles and the underdog Eagles defeated Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots dynasty in an instant classic.

The 41-33 win came down to another excellent game plan by Doug Pederson who has established himself as one of the best and most innovative coaches in the NFL. Last night he was able to beat the master and Nick Foles played just as well as legendary Tom Brady.

They’ll be celebrating this one in Philly for a LONG time . . .
